Why not give the parents what they want? They are losing/have lost their child. Why make them go through all the legal wrangling and drag this out? Right now, the hospital can basically keep the child "alive" indefinitely thus prolonging this bullshit. Give the kid the trach (the incision will be less than one centimeter) and let the parents stand there while the child expires. Right now, they have a picture of the ventilator being turned off and their child suffocating to death. I have watched this being done, and it's different than almost anyone thinks. My guess is that off the vent, the whole ordeal will be less than half and hour, and then the parents can grieve.

And here is who wrote that article No One Is Illegal - Vancouver Great source that one.

Do any of you people actually have an idea what the hell you're talking about? Trach's do not hurt. Period. They are a remarkably simple procedure done under local anesthetic (for patients that are awake) and without anesthetic for those already being given drugs such as Propofol. It takes about 1 1/2 seconds to take a patient off of a ventilator, and another 2-3 minutes to extubate them. To take this baby from being intubated to having a free-flow tracheostomy (as would be done) would be a grand total of less than 20 minutes. It is NOT painful, and if the baby really is "brain dead", he would not even notice it being done. If there is VAP (ventilator-associated pneumonia), then the child's breathing would be so laboured that he would likely stop breathing within the minute of removal. Ask me how I know and I'll tell what I did from March 5 to June 15 last year.

No skills to de-escalate things? You've obviously formed your entire opinion of cops from CBC headlines. For christ's sake, just watch them do something simple like help clear a bar a 3am - major league people skills in the vast majority of cases. Dealing with the mentally ill? These men and women carry nightsticks, pepper spray, tasers....oh, and don't forget....a fricken LETHAL firearm (not to mention the shotgun in the car). If they ALWAYS "escalate a situation", there would be a hell of a lot more scumbags dead on the streets. A close friend of mine was a pharmaceutical sales rep for years (made HUGE money), but his dream was always to become a cop. So he quits his job when he gets accepted to the Edmonton City Police, and gets his first placement in the downtown drag area. That was two years ago. Not that long ago, he gets to "go hunting" - a woman and her young daughter come in to the station and they've both been raped and buggered by daddy. My friend catches up with the scumbag, he resists big time, my friend and his partner arrest him, and lo-and-behold, he gets released by the judge with a conditional sentence. Buddy's leaving the force over that one and going back to "pushing drugs". Tell me again how cops don't know how to "de-escalate" a situation. I would have shot the bastard in the nuts, and then between the eyes.

The committee should report to the Commons, who in turn should simply issue a news release that says that Little Miss Disappearance has 24/48/72 hours to make contact with the committee or a non-expiring warrant will be issued Canada-wide. Ever know anyone that suddenly went on a trip where ABSOLUTELY NOBODY knew where they were or how to get a message to them in an emergency? Me neither. Arrest the little bitch if she refuses to appear.

Bell Canada Essential Plus...$31.95/month....2Gb limit....2Mbps/800Kbps....$15.98/Gb Performance....$41.95/month...25Gb limit....6Mbps/1Mbps.......$1.68/Gb Fibe 6.............$41.95/month...25Gb limit....6Mbps/1Mbps.......$1.68/Gb Fibe 12...........$51.95/month...50Gb limit...12Mbps/1Mbps.......$1.04/Gb Fibe 16...........$61.95/month...75Gb limit...16Mbps/1Mbps.......$0.83/Gb Fibe 25...........$67.95/month...75Gb limit...25Mbps/7Mbps.......$0.91/Gb ***all plans - added usage $5/40Gb...$10/80Gb...$15/120Gb (do your own damn math). "Fibe" plans are only available if your area is serviced by fibre optic lines. If not, you're maxed at the "Performance" speeds. So the closest match to Shaw's Nitro at Bell would be: $102.95 for 355Gb ($0.29/Gb) BUT you would max out at 25Mbps download as opposed to Shaw's 100Mbps. These boys want to charge HOW MUCH per Gb over the cap? -

Someone help me out here. I went back to the Shaw link and did some math... Five plans available. Five Up/Download speeds. Five different cost/Gb regimes. Lite.......$35/month.....15Gb limit.....1Mbps/256Kbps.....$2.33/Gb High Speed.$47/month.....60Gb limit...7.5Mbps/512Kbps.....$0.78/Gb Extreme....$57/month....100Gb limit....15Mbps/1Mbps.......$0.57/Gb Warp......$107/month....175Gb limit....50Mbps/3Mbps.......$0.61/Gb Nitro.....$160/month....350Gb limit...100Mbps/5Mbps.......$0.29/Gb So how can Shaw say that their infrastructure can't handle the download traffic (up & down) without charging over the cap to pay for upgrades? In the area I live in, the lines were run back in 1999-2001. If the network can't handle all of us in the neighborhood downloading so much, why do they say it's okay for everyone to pay for the "Nitro" package which boosts the user to 350Gb at 100Mps D/L speed and that's fine? I thought they said the network couldn't handle it? Why do they "just have to" charge the guy with a 60Gb limit $2.00/Gb over the cap, unless of course he signs up to pay $113 more per month for the extra 290Gb. Notice the cost per Gb over the cap actually goes DOWN in that package. By the way, I called the other day to ask what would have to be done to upgrade my internet from High Speed to Nitro. Nothing. Just pay the bill. -
We really need to bring back that thread where we posted our version of those ads. That one was a riot.

By the way, welcome back to the board Norman.

In response to the OP - yes. Yes they are. I picked up a radio broadcast with my hat that also said they are just about done constructing the internment camps for Liberal supporters too. Rumor has it that the CPC's new party emblem looks kind of like a red pinwheel, and that their plans to invade Kwebek are coming quickly. Personally, I think the new salute makes them look like school crossing guards trying to stop traffic...

Well, EXCUSE ME!!!!! Beer reduced my IQ, thank you. Not the government.

I agree with you 100%. It's been a long time since someone on this board worded my opinion so completely and accurately. Wait....you WERE talking about the Trudeau, Turner, Chretien and Martin Liberal governments, right?

When the economy sucks, interest rates go down to stimulate spending on big ticket items. When the economy is hot, interest rates go up to cool the market and keep inflation in check. When the economy is anywhere in between, rates will fluctuate so banks can make a ton of money. This means consumers actually have to shop. If rates go too high, purchases slow and then rates start to drop again. It's a fluid system. Financially, the best thing to ever happen to me was this recession. My mortgage fell to 2% and stayed there for quite a while. It's sitting at 2.75% right now (but I'm sure it'll be 3%+ by next week). Still cut a ton of time off my amortization. Woo hoo. I'd personally love to see everyone start bitching about rates and stop making big purchases requiring a loan. The banks would react and soon I'd be back down at 2%. (it's sooooo cool to see a statement where the principal paid is WAY more than the interest.) Short of federal regulation on rates, there is little the government can do.

ISP's limit you to a specific maximum bandwidth - around 15 mps on Shaw high speed. This is taken into account when they determine how many contracts they can put on a specific network line. Funny, if I want 20 mps all I have to do is pay twice as much... Every ISP has to conform to a Quality of Service limitation. ADSL has a specific line for each user (but normally at slower maximum speeds than broadband), but broadband (cable) does slow when more users are on line. This is why they pick a specific physical carrier when they add a new residential or commercial construction area (or refit it). Just like cell phone plans, the day they give customers an accurate tool for measuring it then they can move ahead with telling people to shut it down when the cap is reached. Great. Where are you EXACTLY in your monthly usage right now? Come on. We'll wait. I wouldn't have a problem paying extra because I use extra, but instead of a cost of say 10 cents a Gb over the cap, they want to charge me 20 times that. This is the equivalent of charging you $3.00 a minute over your minutes on your cell phone plan - without the ability to know when your allotted time is up. Wouldn't THAT be a nice surprise at the end of the month - an extra $500 in cell charges! If the video store is about $6.00 and PPV is about $6.00, then why would they force a customer (who happens to be over the cap) to pay $20.00? (over the cap with Shaw is $2.00/Gb and an "HD" movie is usually around 10Gb or more). This has nothing to do with network "capacity"; it has everything to do with the big ISP's losing their high revenue "cream" services to online companies like NetFlix. My kids can use almost 20Gb a month on Facebook and flash-gaming. I can easily download 20+ movies a month (long story there), and my kid got World of Warcraft for his birthday - constant streaming when he's playing (mostly because the company doesn't want the graphics to look like Pong). Yep it is that simple. Want a service fucked up? Make it a crown corp. Are you about to sign up for the Canadian Federal Cellular Plan? I'm sure it will be a quality service where the "rich" subsidize the "poor" with plan minutes... -
Well, they're becoming that way fast in Alberta. Maybe not in central Canada where you are (Man), but certainly the "god-fearing" part of people is disappearing. Wyly is no more than one of the following: 1) One of those guys who tried going to university because his buddies do. Ended up drinking way too much and too often at the campus pub (which was cool at the time), and has now moved to drinking in the bars in the university district at night, after finishing his job for the day (hint: it comes with an apron, an optional hat, and perhaps some electronics that would remind you of Madonna). 2) One of those guys who wanted to go to university because his buddies did. Now he drinks in the bars in the university district at night, after finishing his job for the day (hint: it comes with an apron, an optional hat, and perhaps some electronics that would remind you of Madonna).

What do you mean "reasons I said not to"? I'm curious.

Hydraboss replied to Battletoads's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
"False advertising" is a yes/no answer. Companies have a little wiggle room in the definition because they always put that asterisk in there and then in tiny print they put the "Fair Use Agreement". "Unlimited" phone plans usually have a cap of a couple thousand minutes or so (they claim it's to stop automated data transfers like auto phone dialers, etc). This is nothing new, but it never hit the news until people actually started reaching the caps. I don't much care how much markup they make (in percentage); it's the reason behind it that bugs the crap out of me. See: anti-competition moves against companies that offer better deals (NetFlix, web-based movie suppliers, etc). Instead of making your own corporate offerings "reasonable", it's easier with this ruling to make the "other guys" unreasonable. -
What can you do to stop racism?

Fine, that may be true. BUT...(as much as I'm loathe to say it)...disprove (almost) anything Mr. Canada said. (Mr. Canada - "loathe" means "I really, really don't want to cause it makes me feel icky". Just thought I'd clarify.) -

Thank you for finally posting the answer. This is simply the reason all of this has been started. Without digital downloading of movies (mainly), few households would even reach 10GB never mind go over the cap so everything in Shaw and Bell land was great. People were starting to pay (dearly) for movies-on-demand and PPV because the premium services are where the cash is. We saw VHQ (among others) go down in flames because, lets face it, who wants to drive to the video store in -30 to return a movie that is 3 days overdue and has already cost you $5.99 to rent + $12.00 in late charges? Enter NetFlix. UNLIMITED movie streaming/downloading for $8.00 a month. Goodbye paying for premium services (you know, the ones where you have to subscribe to the 40 channels of unwanted bullshit to get the one or two movie channels you wanted) just to have the ABILITY to have PPV. (side note: NetFlix in Canada sucks dick compared to what's available in the US. Go online and look at the difference for yourself...) Now, if only there were a way to make NetFlix more expensive (thinks Shaw and Bell).... Oh ya! We'll just charge $2.00/GB over the small cap and...voila!...stream a movie of let's say only 10GB and that works out to...$20.00 in extra internet charges (if you're over the cap). All without Shaw or Bell having to pay for any digital distribution rights! Bring on the caps, baby! Nothing was ever "unlimited" (see: home long distance phone plan fine print), but the allowable download amount was far more than almost anyone could ever reach, let alone go over. I used to use 3-4GB a month. Enter: kids and youtube. Up to around 15Gb. Enter Facebook, forums, the kids "flash" games, MEGA email with attachments, etc, etc...now we're looking at 20+GB per month. Enter: me downloading movies from bittorrent. I'm easily at 50-60GB a month. And that's with me pulling down 1GB movies and upconverting them on my end (good enough for most of the crap produced today). Haven't rented a movie in about two years (screw you Blockbuster and Shaw!). If I wanted to start downloading "HD" movie content, I'll blow over 120+GB per month easily. That's 60GB over my "cap" which would equal $120 extra a month to Shaw. Hmmmm. Think I'll keep picking the 1GB files. -
Uhmm....ya. Okay.
