He has couched what he is doing in language to make his base, and other tin hat wearers, that they need his new law to keep them safe. But the potential outcome is exactly as you described it. So...yes, that is what you believe? I'm not sure why you're having issues answering the question directly. If it's what you believe, just own it. I personally think that this viewpoint is short-sighted and shows very little regard the views of Canadians, assuming Harper is controlling the majority of the population through fear. I believe I understand your view on this, and can only offer to you that it may be worth reviewing this perspective and confirm who exactly is wearing the tin hat.

People Don't Understand 21st Century Math
Spiderfish replied to socialist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Does 21st century learning include the use of improper spelling, punctuation, and grammar? I'll take the old way, at least I can spell. The entertainment value I get from reading your posts is invaluable, keep it up genius. -
I wouldn't be so sure...

Do we have free health care or not?
Spiderfish replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's not, $500 is discouraging and simply unaffordable for some. My family was in a car accident in MB this past summer and 2 ambulances were called. I nearly fell over when I got the bill. Luckily the accident was not their fault and insurance covered it (after a couple of months of fighting with MPIC). -

Spiderfish replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree, tying up ambulances when it's not an emergency is wasteful and potentially life-threatening. When I was living in AB I knew several EMS and was surprised when they described how busy things would get on Friday nights in several nearby rural areas, particularly when ambulance and EMS shortages were headline news in the province. I think a nominal charge for ambulance service is a good idea as long as it's not punitive and doesn't discourage or prevent people from calling an ambulance when they need it. -
I agree with you on the first point. I've also wondered why there is such an aggresive objection and outright contmpt for diversity of opinion. On the second point, I don't watch the CBC very often either, but it really doesn't affect them at all. The fact that they recieve over $1,000,000,000.00 of taxpayer money every year ensures that regardless of ratings, their survival is pretty much assured. They are not required to be competitive.

Impossible... Trudeau's senior political adviser has assured us his new lawn sign installation gig is the only thing he will offer. Dimitri Soudas Supports Adams Move To Liberals Yeah, right. -

Well, we know she's for income-splitting, or at least she was.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIXNj-JNtWw&feature=player_detailpage With her apparent indecisiveness on issues, it will likely be a good match with JT. -
Liberal Party of Canada's misinformation on Bill C-42
Spiderfish replied to Derek 2.0's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The NDP doesn't give a rats rosy rear end about it's content, with a bit of spin it makes a good headline that Harper is "loosening the gun laws". Trudeau can't support it because of the way it's been framed by the NDP, and because he can't be seen as supporting anything Harper introduces. But he can't reject it on it's content either, so he has little choice but to mis-represent it as well. -
It doesn’t take a PhD to look at this guy and see he was pretty unhealthy. It’s reasonable to conclude that the way he was taken down to submission contributed in some way to his death. But his physical condition undoubtedly played a larger role. I think if he was a normal, healthy individual he would have been taken into custody without incident. How were the police to know his heart was unhealthy and that he had asthma? They have a job to do, you can’t be performing a routine physical on every individual prior to arrest. In hindsight, I’m sure the police would have taken it easier on him if they would have known he was in such a fragile state. Perhaps in his physical condition he should not have put up a fight, it may have saved his life. This whole tired narrative that white cops in the US are going around and killing black males for petty crimes or less is unfortunate, and only serves to reinforce and propagate racist sentiment and drive the wedge further. It’s really too bad that much of the progress made over the last several decades is being wiped out trying to defend the bad decisions of a few individuals who think they are above the rules that govern society. In the age where personal accountability is nonexistent, I guess it’s too much to expect people to follow rules and understand there are consequences to every decision.

Is Artificial Intelligence a threat to the human race?
Spiderfish replied to Argus's topic in Health, Science and Technology
The first forms of AI will likely not have a physical form at all. With the complete dependance we've developed on computers and networking to provide and control even basic human requirements like heat, power and transportation, I could see this being a huge concern (at least as large as an X-Class solar flare, a threat currently being taken very seriously). The threat to humans by AI may not even be intentional, but more parasitical. -
I'm not sure how you could get people with no interest in politics to stop voting. There will always be protest votes, etc. I'm all in favour, however of putting more resources into ensuring votes aren't influenced through pressure by special interest groups and unions.

He wasn't stopped for shoplifting, Wilson stopped him because he was walking down the middle of the street and he asked them to move to the sidewalk. He didn't know that Brown had shaken down a convenience store at the time. He also wasn't shot for shoplifting...or for j-walking. He was shot because he assaulted a police officer and tried to grab his gun, then charging the officer when ordered to stop while fleeing. That's a pretty major "transgression", regardless of the colour of your skin. It appears that's the case.

Well stated. Crump put the blame on the prosecution, the system, everything he could think of. He blamed the prosecution for submitting too much information, calling it a data dump with the intention of overwhelming the jury with information. He has made accusations that the thoroughness of the information that was released to the public today was an effort to" hide the truth in plain sight." There is nothing that would have satisfied this guy. I think that the reaction seen in the wake of the ruling was unavoidable. The step father of Michael Brown called for it to be burned to the ground and it was, so mission accomplished. I'm not sure it made him feel any better though. Perhaps Its not surprising that in the aftermath, the thugs and protestors are now accusing the fire department of intentionally letting it all burn, shifting the blame on the prepole who were trying to save the city.

What improvements would you like to see in this discussion forum?
Spiderfish replied to Greg's topic in Support and Questions
Sound advice! I have become more selective in the topics I choose to participate in and the posts I make or debate lately. There have been times when reading certain threads where I feel an urge to contribute or respond, however I usually suppress these urges these days because I can see where the conversation is heading, and really don't have the time, energy, or desire to go there. Sometimes it is beneficial to step out of the picture for a bit and become a spectator, and gain a fresh perspective. Excellent suggestion. Couldn't agree more. As I said above, sometimes spectator status offers valuable perspective. It's easy to lose yourself in debate and focus on adversarial exchanges, and while debate is the reason we're here, taking inventory of what and why can be constructive. Overall, great post!- 1,890 replies

Northern Gateway Pipeline Lawsuit
Spiderfish replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There is no evidence to indicate that the JRP final report ignored any environmental effects other than claims made by Ecojustice. In fact, the JRP approval was provisional to 209 required conditions, including such environmental protection considerations as developing a marine mammal protection plan, researching heavy oil cleanup and conducting emergency response exercises. NGP recommended for approval, with conditions As far as oilsands extraction methods, this is a separate matter from the NGP approval process. -

I never indicated that it was, I was simply responding to your question asking what business is it of folks who do not live in BC to use BC waters to get oil to the Asian markets. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of ocean coastline in Alberta. BC waters are Canadian waters. Alberta oil benefits all Canadians.
