Assumptive to what...to categorizing all individuals who found substance to Dosanjh's words as merely trying to "rationalize racism, bigotry and xenophobia" being insulting? Argus was right, this drive-by smear was a perfect example of what the article was describing.
-
So...like a wolf in sheeps clothing? I guess the conclusion is a so-called priveleged immigrant minority is no better than a white bigot.
-
I'm still waiting for a response to my inquiry in post #73. May be waiting for awhile.
-
Yes perhaps there's much of that going around.
-
Would your apparent perception and misinterpretation of those who read the article in the OP and agree with it as "trying to rationalize racism, bigotry and xenophobia" not be considered insulting others? Your perception may not necessarily be in line with reality.

No, the Liberal Government will make it right. An apology from the pope, eliminating mandatory minimum sentences, and giving more money to the CBC will surely go a long way...
-
I wouldn't hold my breath on it changing anytime soon, certainly not under this current government. Trudeau has already made clear his intention to scrap the First Nations Fiscal Transparency Act.
-
Let's hope sometime within the next 43 days JT and the Liberal party let everyone in on this mysterious detailed plan that he surely must have in place to accomplish this feat. It would likely take more time than that to renew a Canadian passport; describing the promise of bringing in 25,000 refugees from a country such as Syria as "reckless" and "too hasty" seems entirely fitting absent any detail whatsoever on what the plan is going to be.

Justin clearly indicated his position when he stated that this country is better served when Quebecers are in charge and Albertans aren't. Quebec Seperatists must feel comforted by this somewhat. Divide and conquer has worked great for past Liberal Governments, I'm sure the past success of this strategy is not lost on Trudeau Jr.

I guess maybe there's still a significant number of people that believe that they are the safe bet. When Trudeau says things like "if Canada was really the Canada of Stephen Harper and that we were going against abortion, that we were going against gay marriage, that we were moving backwards in 10,000 different ways, maybe I would think of wanting to make Quebec a country" it doesn't leave much in the way of a viable alternative for Conservative voters.

Nanos....right, got it.

So in other words Angus Reid, which you state had the best accuracy in 2011, also has it a dead heat with the Conserviatives in a slight lead (Conservatives - 33%, Liberals - 31%, NDP - 25%.) Does this not also contradict your bold prediction of the Liberals "marching towards a majority?
-
I agree, I would be willing to give the Liberals a chance this time around if they had someone in charge that didn't think budgets balance themself, or that Canada is better served when there are more Quebecers in charge, that this country belongs to them. I think the current and likely the next generation have already bought into the plan. Buy now, pay later seems to be a popular concept these days.

Ekos has the numbers a lot closer, still a dead heat. Liberals - 33.1% Conservatives - 35.5% NDP - 19.0% Tie Continues - EKOS

Shooting In Oregon School
Spiderfish replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Do you include target shooters in your cataegorization? I know of a few Dominion of Canada Rifle Association members who have been involved and have practiced their sport for decades, several of whom have competed at Bisley who would strongly disagree with your assessment (as do I). -
I thought my point was pretty clear, I was simply trying to clarify that you may have misssed marcus' point. Your response of " Shady conjured up angry supporters, so why cant I" seemed a little weak.
-
Please re-read my post and try to pay attention to the context.

I believe the red herring referred to is that suddenly in the last election cycle, winning a majority mandate with less than 50% of the vote seems to be unfair. We certainly didn't hear this crying when the Liberals won with less than 50%, but this is Harper... this is the Conservatives...it's different now. Right? As far as pidgeonholing Conservatives as angry old white dudes, this is also a red herring and is about as insightful as saying that all Green supporters are tree-hugging hippies, or NDP supporters are all social assistance recipients and civil servants.
-
As I said above, the NDP will certainly welcome the fresh interest in the issue, it will no doubt aid in their tireless and selfless effort to lead the way in raising awareness of an issue that has gone under the radar of so many for so long. Maybe now we can take action and stop Harper and his government from treating refugees with the cynicism equivalent to "drowning them with his boot on their heads as they gasp for air."
-
I try to keep up on political issues of the day, but I must admit, I have not heard much of anything at all about the refugee crisis before September 1st. Regardless, It is front and centre on everyone's radar now. If the Liberal and NDP's relentless and tireless flogging of this important issue month after month, year after long year fell on deaf ears previously, they will be relieved to know that they have everyone's keen ear from here on in. Finally, people will listen to their cries from the wilderness. Thank god they never gave up the fight.

No...I get the point, in bold dramatic fashion. It is funny though, that it also took these same pictures of the little dead boy to move the opposition to tears, declaring their outrage over the lack of progress on the issue, and these same pictures that moved Trudeau to judgmental, hypocritical scorn, declaring that " you don't get to suddenly discover compassion in the middle of an election campaign. You either have it or you don't." Before these pictures....crickets....from all corners.

I enjoyed this little gem. Yes, Harper and his government are metaphorically/rhetorically drowning refugees with their lack of action. Very dramatic, and descriptive...well done.
