  1. Drea are you posting high again? OP, the NFL is huge business in Canada. It just happens that the Globe and Mail easily has the worst sports section of all the major dailies in Canada. The Toronto Star, National Post, Montreal Gazette, Vancouver Sun or Edmonton Journal all would have had more in-depth NFL coverage. All righty then.. how come my name wasn't mentioned in even one single newspaper in the US. After all I was in the company of Lion's players with the Grey Cup. I got to touch it and you didn't -- neener neener. (You give attitude, honey, you get attitude right back) Eff you about the "high" honey. It's 9:45 am here. Are you effin' drunk this early in the morning beanhead.
  2. I agree (I live in the Fraser Valley). But where do they get their guns? Surely not from Canadians - we all have our guns locked in cabinets, don't we? We all report if our guns are stolen, don't we? All our guns are registered and traceable, aren't they? So ... they must be gettin' 'em from our friendly southern neighbour. Anyway, even if they didn't have guns, they'd just use machetes.... And yes, immigrant parents need to take special parenting classes. "How to raise your son in the face of gangs, fast cars and loose women".
  3. Only if there are foreign soldiers on our soil. Then I'd fight. Right along with the soldiers. I'd take my dad's old 30-30 out of storage, dust it off and fire away! In some buttfu** country across the earth that is no direct threat to me? No. I would not go, nor would I want any of our soldiers to go. They are supposed to defend Canada, not go die in some economic war for someone else. (ie the US). IMO the best thing that could happen is a revamp of the UN. The UN should have more power than any country on earth and if international laws are being violated then the UNs huge army should just march right in there.
  4. Poly - people tow the govts official line because it is affront to them to think that their govt is actually capable of this horrendous act. It is hard for them to swallow "My govt did this to it's own citizens? The freest, bestest govt in the world! -- NO WAY!" Flat out denial. No amount of information will get them to change. An abusee most always forgive the abuser when the abuser is the supplier of life. She (the abusee) questions herself -- "Maybe I really did fall down the stairs and have forgotten" -- instead of questioning the abuser. It's human nature when one is dependent. "Well, it didn't really look like a demolition, maybe I saw it wrong" (questioning self). I am not versed in physics of any kind, but when I saw those buildings fall I thought "looks just like a controlled demolition". ...and the Pentagon. My god any idiot can see that a jetliner did NOT hit it. Maybe a jetliner with no wings?? (can you say "missle"?)
  5. That is so true China. They've not done anything to get where they are (built a career "ladder" so to speak) so that they will (at some point) fall to the bottom rung and be wondering what happened. I'm encouraging my son (he's 13 now) to go on to University -- Trades -- College. Anything that helps him build a strong career ladder.
  6. Does the New York Times cover the CFL? Did you guys down there get to read that I (ME!) got to take pictures of the Grey Cup -- got to touch it and read all the names? That was in early December? Did you read about it? No. No kidding. Wouldn't really expect Canadian Football to be top priority in the states. Just as your football league isn't all that important to us. Cheers and happy cheering.
  7. That's just silly. The Americans may not be perfect, but they're not habitual butchers like Saddam or his "Republican Guard". Why not stop the reflex criticism of forces for good in the world? Reflex criticism? Not. Well thought out and decided upon criticism, yes. At least the Iraqi people knew who the enemy was didn't they. Now it can be there next door neighbour or an American soldier might think that they are the "bad guy". Good Iraqis wear red and bad Iraqis wear blue? How can you tell an insurgent from a citizen? How can a citizen tell the difference, let alone a soldier from a foreign country? *Force for good in the world? Pffft. The Propaganda is working well on you I see. If Americans believe they are a force for good in the world, why do they insist on wearing a maple leaf when they travel overseas? *Lovely marketing tag line there .
  8. Ashtma is a breathing problem. 20+ years ago you could tell a person had asthma, just like today. My niece and my aunt both have mild asthma. My aunt was diagnosed in the 1960's. Niece in the 90s. Obesity -- well take a look around -- there are waaaay more fat kids than a generation ago. It's the fat kids that get diabetes. Silly stuff like ADHD (the label) are "new" diagnosis. Bad parents need some way to explain why little Johnny won't listen. Years ago he would not have been labelled, just disciplined.
  9. I also do not know of anyone who has done such with a maple leaf pin. I Oh, I thought this thread was about Americans who use the Maple Leaf when travelling. Doesn't happen you say. Ok. Just to clarify -- I didn't mean actually hiding behind a huge maple leaf...
  10. If Americans are so darn proud of their country and really truly believe that the US is a force for good in the world, why do they feel the need to hide behind the Maple Leaf? That's my only question.
  11. Yes, childhood asthma and childhood diabetes are both on the increase. Yet only 15% of our population still smokes. What a conundrum! All of life's problems cannot be blamed on that 15% that smokes. Tough luck. People will have to find some else to blame for their problems.
  12. How many kids have to grow up with health disorders because of the selfish attitudes as expressed above? do you really think I bought an ounce of weed a week and smoked 10 packs before noon? Can you say "sarcasm"? Once again, there are MORE health disorders in children today than 20 years ago. Why is this? As there were more smokers back then, there should have been more health issues. There should be less health issues today but no, there are more.
  13. How much can you really take credit for? Sometimes kids grow up in horrific homes and turn out just fine. Other times, kids from a really good home turn out to be monsters. That said, your other posts on different topics seem to indicate that you are a probably a responsible parent who just does not seem to understand that smoking in the home hurts kids. That is why I think taking kids away from smoking parents is likely on over reaction in most cases. At the same time, I don't think we would just ignore it as a society - many times social pressure can promote positive change without the need for heavy handed interventions. If I am responsible for the outcome if I smoke while pregnant, than I am also responsible for my child's success or lack thereof. I understand full well that smoking is not ideal. Its funny (odd actually) that the cases of childhood asthma have gone up whilst smoking in the home has gone down. Childhood illness has increased while our "awareness" of "bad" things is higher than ever. There should be less cases of asthma because there are less smokers. But this is not the case. Why is childhood illness on the increase? Immune systems. Children today are not exposed to anything "harmful" in small doses so that when they are finally exposed to harmful substances (ie cig smoke) their body's response is extreme. Poor kids growing up in bubbles never get to build immunities. Let them eat dirt and build immunity. My g/friends little girls were never ever allowed to be dirty and as a result both of them are sick all the time. As babies they were never exposed to anything unsanitary and therefore were never able to build up immunities.
  14. Whata kind of parent does that make me? Well by knowing my kid -- a good one. I know plently of folks that would never dream of smoking in front of the kids, etc but on the same token those very same kids are in gangs or doing drugs or just plain brats. My kid is none of those things. So who is the better parent? The proof is in the child. The success and attitude of the child.
  15. But you hate your country... What makes you proud to be Canadian? What makes you like it here? Those "millions" you speak of ... if there are so many, why don't you all get together and vote for the Christian Heritage Party? Sheesh, quit complainin' and DO something already!
  16. By then my boy will be all grown up and I will not have to worry about that will I? I think we should lock all women up unless they are sterile or old. Cause you never know, she could be pregnant and we just have to make sure that baby is gonna be ok. And have you ever fed your kid a hotdog? Shame on you -- don't you know what's in a hotdog? "Processed" meat - ewww. And margarine -- if there is margarine in your fridge your child should be taken away. And fruit -- if there is not 5 servings available for each member of your family your child should be taken away. And fat -- if you are fat your child should be taken away. After all fat parents raise fat children and we all know what problems obesity causes! And ugly -- if you are ugly you should not be allowed to breed. Period. No reason, I just don't like looking at ugly people.
  17. I worked for a bit as a teaching assistant at a private college that had a "training for jobs" program for those on welfare. It was really rewarding to see women who had never worked or who were in abusive relationships get off the system and stand on their own two feet.
  18. Renegade, why don't you come on over to my house today and take away my child? I'll invite you in and feed you a cuppa joe. I am not a judgmental holier than thou person. I bet my son would see you as rather invasive though Yup I smoked (gasp) marijuana (gasp) while I was pregnant (gastp) and while those gigantic welfare cheques were rolling in! I was soooooooo rolling in cash back then that I bought at least an ounce a week. And I smoked 10 packs of smokes everyday before noon! Get over it, you cannot and will not ever be able to regulate what people do to their own bodies. Even us babymaking machines called women. Neener, freakin neener. I'm lightin' a smoke right now. And my son is at the other end of the house. Cheers!
  19. China, our office hires welfare trainees all the time. I think it's great that we are able to offer some training to help someone get off the system. It in no way affects our regular staff.... they just work for three months (subsidized by gov't) to gain some experience. The one woman we had in last year is now head cashier at Rona/Revy. She just needed someone to give her a chance.
  20. You could go to the US and claim refugee status based on "my morals are being infringed upon!" -- I'm sure they will be sympathetic to your plight. Better yet, why not get an application to live there. Get yourself a green card and a job and you will be all set. No sense ruining Canada for the rest of us just because you hate it here.
  21. I've driven both many times and always the Canyon route is safer. The hills are not as steep as the Coq -- in the summer your vehicle overheats and in the winter it's too snowy/slippery. Also, the lanes aren't right -- the "banking" of the lanes is all wrong making driving difficult.
  22. Now they look over their shoulders to see an American soldier. "Is said soldier going to shoot me? Do I look like an insurgent?" They are walking on eggshells over there now and will continue to do so until America takes it's leave.
  23. neener neener -- I smoked cigs too. (and still do, in the house to boot!) My body - my feus - my child - my decision. And this thread deserves to die a quick death anyway.
  24. An American cannot go overseas and "pretend" he's a Brit or an Aussie (wrong accent). Canadians and Americans do sound alike for the most part. Look alike? I dunno, David Suzuki doesn't look much like Condi Rice -- so that's not it. Our countries are full of people of all colours. Condi looks like she is from Uganda perhaps, while David looks like he's from Tibet perhaps. Sooooo -- the fact that we "look" alike is not a fact at all. If Americans are so darn proud of their country and really truly believe that the US is a force for good in the world, why do they feel the need to hide behind the Maple Leaf? That's my only question.
  25. Margrace... it's "Coquihalla", but here in BC we just call it the Coq 'cause nobody can spell it. And no one HAS to drive it. There is the Canyon Hwy as an alternate route. The Coq been sold off to private enterprise by the way and now the BC govt is all ticked off because the private contractor has not been removing snow on a regular basis and the road has been closed many times this year. I would rather pay my $10 toll to the govt than some private enterprise.
