The RCMP are not union Link Edited to add my 2 cents on the topic... This young man was TOO young to be a police officer. The minimum age of an officer of the law should be thiry. Before that one simply does not have the life experience to know how to deal with difficult situations, no matter how intensive the training. Perhaps the younger ones could be "RCMP Youth Officers" so they would still be members, but each would be placed with an older, wiser officer. By sending this young officer out on his own into a potentially volitile situation, his superiors were basically signing his death warrant.

I agree Geoffrey -- where indeed are the parents in these instances? Are parents letting little Johnny film himself with his guns? Where does little Johnny get a gun in the first place? I mean if your kid is sitting in his room in his basement, don't you go down there and check on what he's up to once in a while? Parents need to be aware of what their teens are doing. Sadly, many parents are just letting their kids do whatever they want with no consequence whatsoever. But sometimes, the parents hands are tied...My sister had a foster kid a few years ago and social services told her that she is never to go into the child's room. Ever. Because the kid needs her "privacy". Turned out the degenerate had a gun and a bag of crack. Social services wasn't going to do anything about it because my sister went into the kid's room without permission. As long as a kid lives under my roof, their room is open for inspection at any time. You'll get privacy when you move out on your own!

One actually. He's a senior guy at age 11. What does that have to do with anything? I know for a fact there are kitty cats, and even people who love them, in the USA... I see 'em on You Tube all the time. Wasn't "death kitty" in the states? The cat that would go near people and they would die!! Booga booga terrorist kitty!
-
"Tough titty!" said the kitty when the milk ran dry. Man they can dish it out but they sure can't take it.

See, still refusing to acknowledge that there are more currencies that the Loonie and the Greenback. Again -- there are all kinds of currencies across the world. The US dollar is falling in comparison to CURRENCIES OTHER THAN THE CANADIAN DOLLAR. Whtat part of this is so difficult to understand? Guyser, glad to see you think so much of Canada that you call it a "pimple". Perhaps you should export some of your self hatred? Sadly, Americans have no clue how to analyze why their country is going down the tube. Not their fault really... when all one gets is propaganda, one does not realize it's propaganda.

Actually it's not "my" link. I didn't create it, I simply did a search for it. Of course you don't need to click on it. Might as well continue hiding your head in the sand and pretending all is well -- it's easier that way I guess. All those container ships that arrive at all your ports --- are they empty? Or are they full of IMports? Hmmmm? Imports a year ago were less expensive for you than they are today due to the fact that the greenback has less buying power. Are we wrapping our brains around this yet? I know that as hard as it is to believe, the greenback HAS FALLEN in comparison to other currencies. Them's just the facts... don't shoot the messenger.
-
Do you not understand that your currency is weighed against other currencies, not just the Loonie? Do you understand the concept that your dollar has dropped in comparison to other currencies? .... *he's just not gettin' it....
-
There are more currencies (you do know this right?) than just the Canadian and American dollars. The greenback is dropping in relation to ALL currencies -- did you not click the link? You can compare your dollar to all the other currencies and see how strong/weak it is in relation. And those of you who think the falling greenback has no effect... give your heads a shake. Everything you import now costs more, as a result your standard of living will become lower.

So even you, American Woman, a very aware American, are UNAWARE that your dollar is falling in relation to most currencies across the world, not JUST the Canadian dollar. And yet the majority of the populace ARE unaware? Who's fault is that? Your so-called news has a habit of ignoring bad news stories that make the gov't look bad. Check out this link to compare your currency to all the world's currencies: Link We are an exporting nation so a low dollar is a good thing for us. American buyers of our resources used to get at least a 30% discount right off the top so they were more than eager to buy from us. Your dollar being so low is NOT a good thing for Canada for this reason -- American buyers, instead of a discount will be paying a premium. Bad for us. So our dollar being so high is a double edged sword for Canadians. On the one hand it's great to see all the investment in our country, on the other hand our resources are more expensive for our buyers. The American greenback has been used as a "world" currency but that is changing very quickly. One small example... the world's highest paid fashion model has always been paid in greenbacks, she now wants to be paid in Euros. How long before oil is no longer traded in greenbacks? Not long I expect. I admit, as a Canadian, I am relishing in this. I'm sorry, but America has been so damn smug for so many years that many of us simply can't help ourselves and revel in it. It's kinda nice to see the bully take a big hit. Too bad it affects good people like you American Woman. You seem like a good person. edited to add: Because the actual topic is the Northwest Passage.... how can it not be ours? Is the water between mainland America and the Baja peninsula considered "international waters"? If our arctic archapeligo is international waters then this area should be considered such as well. Oh, and the water between Vancouver Island and the mainland (Georgia Strait) -- is that international waters? How about the Inside Passgage? Again is that international waters? How about the water between PEI and the rest of the country? International waters? Pffft.

Now you are the provider of "cheap" goods. Yes, be very proud of that because it's about the only thing you CAN be proud of at this point in time. America is quickly becoming the new "Mexico" with it's dollar dropping like a rock in comparison to ALL other world currencies. Any day now I expect the news to be reporting that Americans are sneaking over the northern border in the middle of the night to find jobs. And yet here you are in all your smugness. On the news the other day, some American tourists got off a cruise ship and were utterly shocked that their dollar was worth only 95 cents. They didn't know that their currency had fallen on the world currency exchange. Don't you Americans get world news down there? Don't you have a "business" segment on your local news? Don't the local newscasts tell the populace that the dollar is spiralling into oblivion? Or do you all just pretend it isn't happening?
-
ha ha hee hee. BC2004, you mean they are getting in because the USA wants them to get in? just like you WANTED Timothy McVeigh to have that bomb -- aha ha ha ha ha ha Every time I respond to one of your posts (Yours, whites or Scotty's) I picture me as Lucy pulling that ol' football juuuust before you kick it. Ha ha hee hheeee hooo hooo ha ha... ...sorry I just couldn't resist. You make it soooo eaaasy.

couldn't we all just share it... as per the agreed upon borders? map Makes more sense than fighting over it, no?

capricorn I wish I would've never had that first cigarette.... I quit when I was a teen but went back after only 6 months... I've tried to quit a few times but I guess I'm just not motivated enough. With regard to cannabis... I have smoked it on and off for close to 20 years and trust me, one can easily go without weed.
-
That is what the tobacco lobby said. There is no "marijuana lobby" paid to find the product "safe". There is, however, a lobby that lies to you about it. (refer madness and all that) Geoffrey, you really should take it from people who know. The people who know are the ones who actually smoke the stuff. I can go without weed with no physical withdrawl symptoms. As pot is illegal in this country, it is sometimes very hard to find, so many times we are without any supply. No big deal. Cigs on the other hand -- I would walk through a blizzard to the store to buy it; I would collect butts off the street (ewww but I would do it!)... I would do pretty much anything to get my cigarettes. LOL I figure the only way I could ever quit cigarettes is to be put on a deserted island somewhere for six months.
-
There. The bolded part of this statement proves that you have never been around a person who has smoked just pot. The LAST thing a person who is high on pot wants is grandeur! One becomes more careful after smoking... paranoid actually. Not paranoid on the level of a schizophrenic, but paranoid enough not to have "grandoise" thoughts and actions. Your nephew is not just smoking weed, he is more than likely doing crack. He probably covers it up by saying "I only smoke pot", and you believe him? I would like it if I didn't have to support organized crime. But alas, the government still has it's head stuck up its arse and does not realize that legallizing it would put the criminals out of business. I am in middle age and have smoked it for over half my life. I go to work, volunteer, etc. My admitting that probably "induces" you believe that I am high as soon as I wake up. (government-propaganda-brainwashed folks such as yourself always believe that pot smokers get up in the morning, light a joint and then go on a "refer madness" spree) I usually smoke one in the evening after the supper dishes are all done, just like some people I know that have a nice glass of wine to unwind.

This line says it all right here. Kengs would like to "save" people from their so called "sins". Not all people will be welcoming when you tell them they are sinners. Not all people think homosexual behaviour is a "sin". Heck, not all people believe there is any such thing as "sin". In my opinion, the word "sin" belongs right there with the word "evil". Words made up by the religious for the purpose of instilling fear. Only those who believe are bound by god's laws. AND if you believe in one law (do not lie with a man as thou would with woman), why do you not follow the rest of the laws? I can't imagine, Kengs, that you don't speak to or touch your wife during her menstration, yet the laws state that a man should not converse, touch or sit in the same seat as a menstrating woman. Why the discrepancy? If your going to follow god's laws and expect everyone else to follow them, why do you only follow the one's that suit you?

In other words... all you single moms -- get out there and find yourselves a daddy. The manly-men on this forum say it's the right thing to do! Doesn't matter if you love him or not, doesn't matter if he's good for the children or not, doesn't matter that you gag when you look at him. None of these things matter -- all that matters is that he has money and YOU don't have to work; you can stay home and look after the children. That's all that matters. Puke later, for now, while your children are young, suck it up; after all you were irresponsible enough to get pregnant in the first place... so you should suffer. /sarcasm All I can say is that it is a very good thing that our provinces already have a daycare subsidy programs. -

Maybe you got sumpthin there Scott. ...marry some old s.o.b. and get a divorce as soon as you're ready to strike out on yer own. Good idea! Why the heck didn't I think of that way back when I was a single mom? Geez I could be rrrrich by now. Instead of working I could be sitting at home eating bon bons while hubby worked. OMG... again... I so wish I would've thought to take advantage of some poor sap... imagine how far ahead I'd be by now... instead of pulling in my OWN coin, I could've lived off someone else. Why didn't someone tell me? LOL What an idiotic solution. And you claim to be an advocate for men's rights? What the heck is good about doing what you have suggested? Pffft. What a lame solution. -

Two people working? Delete the $275 child tax benefit. And more groceries to buy. For three of us I spend $150-$200 every Saturday (that's $600-$800/mo just to eat, do laundry, and wipe our butts). When it was just my son and I, we ate alot of rice and alot of tuna. To this day he hates rice pudding (the only treat we could afford back then). Reaaally? You know for sure that every single parent has $450 coming in from the absent parent? Not likely. My ex pays $100 per month. Some pay nothing at all. My sis been at the same job six years now... makes $11.13 per hour. And no, she is not a single parent. Just sayin'.... not all people get $17/hr.... Good luck finding care for a child when you work shiftwork... even if one has the money who the heck takes your child while you stock shelves from midnight to six am? Bring 'em to work? Belt 'em into the fork lift and fly at it? Will the restaurant allow the mom to bring her toddler to work 'cause she can't find care? What people fail to realize is that it is cheaper for the gov't to pay for childcare for 6 years than it is to pay welfare for 18. Childcare is an investment in the family. An investment that pays off. Unlike welfare which does nothing to help anyone do anything. -

So let's do an example shall we? A parent with a toddler grosses $1600 per month ($10 per hour at 40 hours per week). Probably pays about 15% off the top so that leaves $1360 net income. Out of that money they must pay $25-35 per day for childcare (20 days a month let's say) that works out to between $500 and $700 per month. (Let's go with the lower number shall we?) $1360 less $500 equals $860 per month for rent, heating, groceries. Is this enough to live on without a provincial daycare subsidy? Oh I forgot to add in Harper's $100 per toddler.... so that's $960 to live on. Oh yah, and we might as well add in the child tax benefit (we'll use the maximum) of $275. So now this parent has a whopping $1235 which is to cover rent, hydro, groceries. Never mind telephone service, prescriptions, sight testing, a movie now and then... How much is rent in your area of the country. A 2 bdrm in the Fraser Valley is at the very very least $650, in a scummy area. Can you all cover your groceries, hydro and all other expenses with $585? -
Tasers are not meant a weapon used to KILL people. Yet people are dying as a result of being tasered. Are the tasers perhaps more powerful than they need to be? A while back I watched (on TV) a police officer being tested with the taser. It hurt, but it didn't kill him. Mind you, he was calm at the time of tasering. Perhaps they should test them on police officers that have extremely high adreneline and high blood pressure (that's what occurs when a person in angry) and see if they die from it. If the test cop dies, then obviously there is a problem with the taser.
-
Link This surely spells the end of taser use by the police.

Why not just say it.......oh heck sing it.. "We're better than theeey aaareee" "We're better than theeey aaareee" "We're better than theeey aaareee" "We're better than theeey aaareee" you might want to add a "neener, neener" there too jbg. Geeez.

Who said anything about children? Are gay people (or sexual freedom advocates like me) grooming children "from infancy to serve as sex partners for adults"? Get real. The moral police (such as yourself) always bring up the strawman that because one believes in sexual freedom they MUST be "grooming" children as sex partners. Give it a rest. Most people (aside from you) know that sexual freedom does NOT include sex with children (that was the "no one gets hurt" part of my post -- duh). I notice that you dropped the topic in the other thread "Feminism in Norway goes insane"... Guess I won that debate, eh.
