The greatest thinkers in the world still have no proof that there is an entity. This entity that people believe in has never, in all of human history, done anything proveable. That is my point. How can people believe in something unproveable? I never said it was a crutch, those are your words. I believe people have been duped. No one wants to die, everyone would love to live on so "god" and religion were created. It makes sense -- to the primitive cave dweller who saw a leaf die and then come back in the spring, it looked like reincarnation or life after death. I understand why our primitive societies believed. I do not understand how people in this enlightened age, still believe. So sue me. Because atheism is relatively new. 50 years ago you would be hard pressed to find someone who called themselves an atheist as they would've been shunned by their communities. Today it is much more acceptable to be a non believer, hence we talk about it more.

Yet More Proof: Traditional Family is Good
Drea replied to kengs333's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
You lament what is happening but offer no solutions. Women are out of the house and they are not going back, banks or no banks, mortgages and high prices be damned, women (some) find that they enjoy being out there. My son was in daycare from 9 months on. He is now a teenager, a B+ student, a cadet, has a job, saves his money, does the dishes, knows how to do his own laundry and clean the toilet, is respectful of others, asks old people if they need help, I could go on... and on.... Did I mention that we met his stepdad only 5 years ago? Do you realize that means that I, a single mother, raised a male child on her own and he TURNED OUT OK. Friggin' amazing. We must be the one single anomoly in all of North America. Damn I'm proud! My sister's family, mom and dad in the house, she stayed home. Her second youngest got pregnant at 17. She has just had her second baby with a guy she knew for 6 months before she got pregnant. He is trying to stick around.. The youngest one is 17 and she is now very sporadic with her schooling. Frig. She should have raised them on her own I guess then they would've turned out better, like mine. OR perhaps it's not ALL about who stays at home and who works. Perhaps it's about being a parent when it counts. For example, one begins with the toddler -- no means no, if you say no Jimmy you cannot jump on the couch, mean it. If you say Jimmy you are not going to have ice cream if you continue jumping on the couch -- don't feed the kid ice cream! Follow through. You see, it's not about having two parents. It's about having a strong parent with follow-through skills. -
And those who follow with blind faith, a doctrine written by human beings millenia ago, are deep thinkers? x10. Of course the Flying Spaghetti Monster is SUPPOSED to be a mockery of religion. Did you think people actually believed there is a pasta creature floating out in space? "well yah" says Scotty "yah gotta believe in sumpthin or you'll fall for sumpthin else". Come on, a pasta dude makes just as much sense as an unseeable, all knowing daddy (who, I might add, has never done even one damn provable thing) in the sky. Religion sets itself up for a good mocking. I mock it daily.

Yet More Proof: Traditional Family is Good

From the article: Yes! Improve day care options so that single mothers are not forced to take in any loser that walks in simply to help with the finances. I find the second sentence to be sexist -- it is saying that young men need to be damn sure they make a decent living so they can have 2, 3, 4 or more people living off that income. It tells me that his only value is in his income. How do we reach these people to teach them better parenting skills? When do we start teaching our young people how to be good parents? Should there be classes in highschool? Elementary? Post secondary? Go into people's homes? Ahhhhhh! What? How? When? -
Tuesday nights 9pm pst. I forget what channel. It's show about an asshole doctor. He is an asshole who does everthing wrong but somehow it comes out right (he cures the patient). He is a prick to everyone. This TV character would vote right wing LOL. Hey all of you Dr. House fans out there -- Hugh Laurie is gay and he's British. I doubt if Hugh Laurie, the person would be anything but a flaming lefty! edited to add: what an amazing actor Hugh Laurie is! He pulls it off -- a gay man with a british accent in a role where he is an American (no discernable accent) and a real right wing jerk. He should win awards for the role as it is so far removed from his actual self it's amazing that he can pull it off episode after episode.

That's excellent Buffy! At the very least it gets people to think about how "unreal" religion actually is how it is a fallacy to regard something as 'real' or 'truth' when in fact it is completely unknowable. All we KNOW is scientific, therefore all that is TAUGHT should be science based. Religion is very much like Santa Claus -- we teach our little children that a fat man brings them toys if they are good, and if they are not good, they get coal (or nothing). As adults, church leaders teach us that a man in the sky will bring us immortality if we are good, and if we are not good we go to hell. Same thing. Toys = immortality; coal = hell. Be a good boy/girl/man/woman and you will recieve all the fun stuff that Santagod has in store for you!

An example of "Diversity" crossing the moral line.
Drea replied to Moxie's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Because most of us who YOU considered lefties, consider ourselves CENTRISTS. I hate the left. They think everyone should get a big fat welfare cheque just for being alive, think we should all ride bicycles and eat tofu. I hate the right. They think we should all bow down to some sky daddy, think sex is only for procreation and want to control everything. Plus they like Bush. I-AM-CENTRIST! IMO all people are just fine (brown or otherwise) until they start shoving their ideology down my throat. Don't agree with abortion? Don't have one. Don't agree with homosexuality? Don't screw someone of your same sex. Don't like women in bikini's? Don't go to the beach in July. -
Which plagarized the Book of Enoch... which came from ancient texts much older. And your point...? We all are born with consciences. If no one had ever heard of "god", "allah", "jesus" or whoever, we would still find killing one another wrong. Go ahead, trot out "Stalin-the-bad-atheist" as an example... he was BAD! He was an ATHEIST! Religion is the most divisive "thing" that us humans have invented. It pits people against one another using so-called "truths" of which no one has even the slightest clue. Where we came from and what happens after we die are pure speculation. Any religion perporting that they "know" is flat out lying.

In all other instances con-artists are considered criminals. Now, if I come to your house pretending to raise money for charity, I am committing a crime. Why do we allow televangelists to continue conning people out of their money. My charity "Drea's Dreams" will also get you into heaven if you donate $1000 or more. So why is my con illegal and the televangelist's legal?

Why JBG, of course your culture is far superior. I mean really really superduper-erior! Religion should be banned from the earth. It only serves to seperate people from their innate humanity. Stupid religion. Stupid people who ascribe to it and use it as a means to hate/kill/maim/spit upon/feel superior over everyone who is not of "their" specific sky daddy fantasy.

It's clear that Kengs333 does not know what an adult is. An adult relationship is NOT one with a 40 year old and a teenager. The adult who desires sex with children (yes, even children in puberty) is a pedophile. Can you not get this Kengs? This Manboylove group does not represent all gay men. They use the cover of being "gay", or the "gay pride movement" to cover for their sick sick behaviour but this does not make them typical of gay men. Just like the supposedly-hetro male who lusts after "just developed" young girls. He uses his cover as a "hetro" macho male needing a cute virgin to cover his pedophilia. Are you getting this Kengs?

I don't understand why anyone would feel it is their business what consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedrooms. It should not be anyone's concern except the consenting adults involved. No one has the right to call them "deviants" and/or call for their demise*. *demise meaning "end of", not death.

Was it a girl's bike or a boy's bike? Makes a difference you know, 'cause if it was a boy's bike then he must be a homo fer shur.

Good on yah... ... using this thread to get in a slam. Geez My family attended the ceremonies yesterday. A young girl recited "In Flanders Fields"... and her voice... it was so tiny, so fragile....well there wasn't a dry eye in the crowd.

Welcome to MLW Isobel! In the mind of Kengs333, everything is deviant. Sex is only allowable if it is between a man and a woman who have never had sex with anyone else, the lights are off, the woman is not enjoying it, and the man get's off in less than 5 seconds. "Whew! Done the dastardly deed, let's hope there's a baby this time, cause I don't want to have to do that again!" He believes that all people should follow the rules from some book written over 2000 years ago. But only those rules that specifically mention sex. All other rules don't matter to Kengs333, he just wants people to be as sexually miserable as he is.

Topaz, it's pretty much the same here in BC. They call it social assistance. Where I live there are lots of organizations that will assist a person to find employment. Government assitance isn't meant to pay well. It's meant to be a stop-gap feature that gets one through the hard times. If we paid a single person enough to live moderately comfy on many would choose it over working. As it is, even the lowest paid jobs pay better than social assistance for a single person (those with kids are a whole different topic).

Radical Islamists, or Moderate Islamic victims?
Drea replied to Moxie's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
If they hadn't been Arab, we would not be discussing this. If it were a group of say, British soccer players acting up, we would not be having this discussion. The only thing that perpetuates this discussion is your unfounded fear of muslims. You should fear 12 year old girls, after all, there was that one that killed her parents, therefor all 12 yo girls are frightening little things that could kill you on a whim. I don't care if you think I have an attitude. It's not a problem for me at all. You own your reaction to any given situation. If you react with fear you own that fear, it's yours -- it doesn't belong to the people you are afraid of. AW, read maxsyno's post. -
Conservatives bringing back death penalty for Canadians abroad
Drea replied to a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
For many, death is a "release". Prison, IMO, is much worse (if it's not a country club like the one's here in Canada). I think the death penalty was implemented because the powers that be believed that god would send them to hell for their deeds. Being this is not the case, prison is worse than death. -
Radical Islamists, or Moderate Islamic victims?
Drea replied to Moxie's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
well don't fly then. If you are afraid of what "might" happen you are living in perpetual fear. What is your solution? Perhaps airline passengers (all of them) should be required to wear straight jackets and urine bags so they don't get out of their seats. Did anything happen on the flight after these men were cruising all around the cabin? Did it crash? Did they threaten anyone? Did they take over the flight? Did they intimidate the crew into changing the flight plan? No. None of those things happened in reality. They only happened in the minds of the afraid. -
Any kind of solution to offer there Slavuk? Or do you just want to rant against the police? Should we abolish all police? Let criminals run free? You come on this board and completely make an arse of yourself on every topic... and that makes the rest of us (who are on your side, but not nuts like you) look bad. You come across as a complete maniac stoner conspiracy theorist and those of us who try to discuss these topics like normal people are getting fed up. Geez. You might feel more at home at Rabble.

Radical Islamists, or Moderate Islamic victims?
Drea replied to Moxie's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
What if it were 12 Japanese tourists? No one would have even noticed that they changed seats. People would've smiled nicely for the video camera. We live in an era of perpetuated fear. People with brown skin changing seats and having cameras now set people on edge. Last century, the Commies were comin' -- Japs were at our back doors... this century the muslim is the "villain". Ho hum. -
Harper anxious about loonie's 'rapid' surge
Drea replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Seven countries consider abandoning the US dollar. Some of you might want to cover your eyes... and sing Kumaya... Link What does this all mean? -
Dion seems rather weak in the leadership dept and the conservatives are capitalizing on his weakness. And rightly so. I have always voted Liberal but I am thinking of voting for Jack just because I cannot see Dion as an effective leader. The Liberals need a new leader. Any chance of that happening before he has to go head to head with Harper? Ignatief would have been a much much better choice. Who the hell were the idiots that tought Dion had leadership capabilities anyway? How do we small l liberals get him out of there? How do we voice our opinions to the party and tell them they're losing our votes because they chose a weak man to lead the party?

That comes from not being a parent in the beginning. Bending to little Johnny's every little whine. Parents -- when you say no to your two year old, MEAN it. When you promise a punishment (ie; if you do this, I will do such and such) FOLLOW THROUGH. Be consistent. Be strong. Be a parent. You were a kid once! With parents.
