If you feel that way from pot, imagine how it must be on Monday morning for the guy who went on a drinking bender Saturday night! Pot does effect people differently... my bro doesn't like it 'cause it just makes him tired... I don't care for alcohol (and never never mix it with weed for reasons stated above) as it takes me far too long to feel "normal" afterwards. Over this Christmas season it is amazing how many people tried to get me to drink. "Aw come on, have a drink, it's Christmas!". When I said "no thanks" they act all offended. I only drink once a year at hubby's Christmas party. It's fun, but I pay for it for days.

The man in question (the one who was tested) was neither high nor drunk at work nor at the time of the testing. He did however, have traces of THC in his system -- which does not mean one is "still high". If there is a test to see if a person has injested THC over the weekend then there ought to be a test to see if a person drank alcohol over the weekend as well. A hung over drunk is a menace. How can a person be "100%" when their body is trying to recover from a bout of drinking? As I stated earlier, pot does not cause a "hang over", the "shakes", puking, headache, etc.

How silly! While the THC from marijuana does stay in the system, the "high" does not. The effects of alcohol, however, lasts for days. For example, I went out a few weekends ago and had five vodka-sevens (with a lime please). I took me until Tuesday until I was finally feeling back to 100%. That night I did not smoke any weed because mixing alcohol and weed causes one to feel nauseous and dizzy... anyhhooo... The next Saturday night we watched movies and smoked two doobies between us. On Sunday morning I got up and went on a housecleaning spree, then went Christmas shopping, visited friends and got all the laundry done to boot. I felt competely and utterly 100%, not hung over even a bit. Please please someone tell me the logic in testing this fellow after the "high" had worn off? ...oh I just read that it happened in Alberta... never mind. What's funny? My hubby and I pretty much smoke weed openly here in BC. Couple of summers ago we were in a hotel in Calgary and went to smoke a doob before bed and were all worried someone in the hotel might smell it and report it. We never worried about this for even 5 seconds in BC We rolled up a towel, put it by the front door, and sat by the open window to smoke it. Damned if I were gonna let the Alberta rednecks stop me from smoking!

But you openly debase women who are not stay at home mothers; you seem to look down upon women who raise a family and have a career or job. You openly debase women who are not virgins at marriage; women who choose to explore their "personhood" seem abhorent to you. I am sure that you have been told time and again that forced roles for each gender simply do not work in the long run. The only way it worked before was that women did not have the freedom to be unmarried and were essentially trapped. You may say "they liked it". But you are wrong. No one, not even you, likes to have no choices. Choices make people happy. Having control over one's self and life makes people happy. And happy people raise happy well adjusted children.

Wilber, ideally I would like to see all religion shoved to the basements of old museums. Back in the day when I went to church they said "just hand all your problems over to Jesus and you will be okay". If I would have done that then I would not be where I am today. I would still be a single mom living on eggs and rice, praying for Jesus to come along and save me from my fate. I respect the Chinese because their beliefs are all about the inner self. There is no handing over of problems, no one is going to save you but yourself. I respect that. I do not respect that a person can go through his or her life as a mean nasty bastard and still get into "heaven" simply by saying "Jesus I invite you into my heart" on their deathbed. No need to take responsibility and be a good person, just beg for forgiveness (and get it) at the end. That is utterly the most pathetic excuse for bad behaviour on the planet. Yet the person who lives a good life and never hurts a single person, goes to hell because they don't "believe in Jesus". Sick sick sick IMO. Karma is much "fairer" -- be an a-hole and it'll come right back atcha.

The Sikh and Hindu communities here in Southern BC have been getting together to discuss this issue in light of the women murdered by family members. I noticed that the audience was at least 50% men which is a very good thing. If the men of these cultures don't get involved in saving the lives of women nothing will change. We need the men on side.

What they don't seem to understand, Margrace, is that if the mom were to stay at home, the gov't would then lose $10,000 per year in income tax (that is how much I paid last year after write-offs). Obviously they are thinking with their little heads instead of the ones on their shoulders. Is it cheaper for the govt to provide $7000 per year in child care expenses for 5 years or losing $10,000/year for 25 years? Hmmmm let's add it up... $35,000 for childcare vs $250,000 in potential tax income. This goverment is an idiot.

I read Keng's propaganda link... the articles read like... 1 Christian killed...7 Christians killed, some hurt... etc. BUT not near on the scale of worldwide persecution of Christians. Not even close to the number of Muslims killed by Bushco. (YOUR lameheaded Jesus/God told him to invade Iraq and kill Muslims remember?) Kengs when 2 or 3 people are killed it is not a "persecution". When an entire sects are wiped out then come back and tell us about it. Is Stephen Harper ruthless, manipulative, deceptive, corrupt, self-serving, and egotistical? You said "...long ago proven that women are quite equal..." So we must assume that in your opinion all politicians are ruthless, manipulative, deceptive, corrupt, self-serving, and egotistical regardless of gender. While this may be partially true, I do believe that there are some really good people in politics throughout the world that are actually trying to do their best for their peoples and their countries.

Public school is just that -- public. And the entire "public" does not worship Jesus and therefore should not be forced to sing songs or act in plays that worship him. I can imagine how up in arms people would be if there little children were forced to participate in a *insert other religion here* ceremony. Can you imagine the outcry if Christian children in public schools were forced to bow down to Allah? Even once, for a celebratory "song"? What would be the problem with that? For Pete Sake, if you want your kid to have a Christian education, put them in a Christian school. We are not a Christian nation. While Christianity may be the most popular religion, we are in no way a theocracy. And thankfully so Moxie. Our nation, allows for freedom of and from religion. I am not forced to wear a hijab (or face Mecca) during Ramadan so why is a muslim, buddist, jewish or atheist child in school forced to worship Jesus (if only in a song)? Maybe you would be happier in a theocracy, but I wouldn't. Thankfully in Canada the secular voters are more numerous than the freaky religious. I don't pander to any of the religious "Pap" so I am re-highjacking the Christmas celebration as an excuse to party, eat, see friends and give gifts. The notion of Jesus plays no part in my Christmas celebrations at all, but I still call it Christmas. Sooner or later (hopefullly sooner) the word "Christmas" will no longer be connected to "christ", it will simply mean "winter celebration". What a wonderful time of year! not unlike the alcoholic... Unlike alcohol however, the body does not physically "need" the drug. Although the marijuana user may get cranky if he doesn't get his weed, he does not get the "ddt's" like with booze. Psychologically he may feel he needs it, but physically he can do without and be just fine --unlike the alcoholic or crack addict, or heroin user, all of who can die from withdrawl symptoms. Too much booze/crack/heroin/cocaine/mushrooms/lsd/ecstacy and you die. Too much pot... and you become immune and no longer get high at all. But you don't die.

Why stop at marijuana? Are you aware that the effect of marijuana is not the same as the other drugs you mentioned? Are you aware of the effect of marijuana at all? Have you ever smoked it, or had someone smoke it around you? Have you ever had a drink of alcohol? Did you go "mad"?

"Widespread reefer-madness"? Have you ever been around a person who has smoked pot? One does not become "mad", one becomes "mellow". And, what damage, exactly, has anyone (letalone a "hippy") smoking pot caused? You are afraid that everyone in the country will start smoking it once it's legal -- are you going to become a pot smoker when it becomes legal? No? So why the big "we have enough druggies now, we don't want to create more"... These are simply scare tactics from those who still believe the antiquated propaganda, "reefer-madness". Those who smoke it will do so whether or not it is deemed "legal" by the govt.
