That is exactly what I thought when I was a twenty something... but alas I am now in my 40's and the same antiquated attitude that I thought would be long gone is still pervasive... The propaganda of the early part of the last century still plagues the thoughts and minds of the "anti-pot" crowd. I find it amazing that the myth of marijuana creating "reefer madness" still exists. Especially in light of the numbers of people who have smoked it and know that it does not induce "madness", but induces introspection.

He will face prison time. What more do you want? Do you want the muslim community to stand up and denounce it? His head on a stick? Muslims run out of the country? What do you want to happen? In an ideal rightwing world... what would be the outcome of this horrific tragedy?

This is my favourite post. It shows the true colours of a so-called "Christian". And assures me that I am correct in my position that religion is an antiquated notion that belongs in the basement of the Smithsonian. And in the USA where guns are legal and prolific, no one gets killed by guns, criminals don't have guns, right Pliny? Well then I suppose the mighty USA would have to beef up border security. Not our problem, their problem. You don't smoke it and would not rush out to try it if it were legal so what in the heck you ranting about? "aaaah, legalize pot and every single citizen will be lazy and eatin' doritos". Ever have a drink of an alchoholic beverage? Juice does taste better so why do people insist on drinking stuff that tastes so awful? To get high, to get an effect from the alcohol. How many people will die this holiday season due to drinking? How many will die because of smoking pot? Pot is the antidote for stress, not the other way round sillies. It is a calming drug. Those who have no clue as to the effect of a substance tout their unsubstantiated "facts" when in actuality they are clueless.

After all the gazillion threads on the legalization of innocuous marijuana some people still think it's an "evil" weed that causes "reefer madness". And when a *insert race or creed, or whatever* man kills his wife he is not representative of all "his kind" of men. But everyone sure has had a fun time blaming this fellow's Muslimness! Legalize pot and there would be no one exchanging pot for guns would there? Last time I wanted a bottle of Frangelico (my preferred Holiday spirits) I simply went to the liquor store. I tried to trade them my gun for the bottle, but they would have none of it so I simply had to give them some ID and some money. Too bad our antiquated gov't can't wrap their puny brains around the fact that if pot were legal it would remove the criminal element. Dumbasses.

It is the wishful thinking of all religious fundies. Thankfully in North America we have a good many secularists who put "humanity" ahead of "godliness". If you do not agree, then you are not a fundamentalist. And no, I am not calling anyone on this board a fundie so don't start down that road please. I know that this isn't happening on North American soil but it needs to be told. Christians need to know that this shit is being done in their name and they should be awash in disgust that someone somewhere is maiming children in the name of their saviour. Right off the bat you say: "...type of thing that is quite commonplace in most Islamic nations on a regular daily basis" as if to deflect the heniousness -- they do it, so others doing it is not so bad. It is bad! Its horrible and should be the topic of every Christian church this morning. Discussing how some people could possibly twist Jesus' teachings into such horrific crap. We want muslims to do this, we want them to discuss the heniousness of what their fundies are doing, we want it on the top of their minds so that fundies don't have the opportunity to slither in pretending they are moderates. We want them to stand up and denounce what the fundies are doing in the name of their god. If we want them to do this, why the aversion to North American Christians looking other Christian's heniousness in the face and discussing it?

My hubby read an article in Maxim the other day... the husband (wrestler guy) apparently killed his wife in a rage -- according to the article. Then he killed his son (no longer raging but feeling guilty and doing what he thought was the right thing to do. He thought his son would be better off dead than living with no parents. Dillusional yes. Raging when he killed his son and then himself, no. I grew up in the 70' s -- my aunt and uncle were heavy drinkers -- He choked her one time in a drunken rage. Almost killed her. I was looking after the kids and the three of us pulled him off of her. He would've killed her. Luckily he didn't kill any of us. (Back in the 70's when parents would "swing' (trade partners) there was alot of "drunken rage" going around). On a normal non-drunk day, he was the nicest guy in the world... but he "lost it" in drunken rage. If she would've died, he would've regreted it. I used the wrestler as an example that choking is not necessarily premeditated. See AW, I am learning how to be mean without being overt and getting banned. Who gives a crap where the fundies are from? They are fundamental Christians who are maiming and killing people in the name of Christ. Muslims across the world are Islamic followers who would do anything to follow the teachings of Allah. Christians across the world are Christ followers who would do anything to follow the teachings of Jesus. This is how the rightwing-frothing-at-the-mouth people think: When a Muslim becomes a fundie and does something henious -- all Muslims are fanatics! When a Christians becomes a fundie and does something henious -- he is an anomoly, one guy, one-time, never happened before, never will happen again. Stupid stupid religious freaks.

Please reread what I wrote. There is no reference in the paragraph about the wrestler that he accidentally strangled his wife. It was an example that people DO strangle. And do you not think he was in the "anger" of the moment when he strangled her? He was in a "roid rage" and felt so guilty that he killed his son and himself. If he had no guilt and thought he and his son would have a better life without the wife/mother, he would've tried to get away and live a heppy life with his son (one would think). This is for you AW -- America made him do it. Poor bastard, if he would've stayed in Canada, he, his wife and child would all be alive. You Rue are one of the most sensible posters (you and black dog) her on MLW. For the record, not that I know 'cause I havent' studied it but it seems to me that the only "religion" out there that isn't vilifying everyone else, is the Jewish religion. I have never had a Jewish person tell me I am a heathen or a sinner or that I am going to hell because I don't believe. If we HAD to have one world religion... we should go with Judaism.

I appreciate your understanding after all these folks jumped on me for not belieiving this is an exclusively muslim issue (indeed muslimness may have not played a role at all -- just a volitile dad who'd kid would not follow his rules) The father DID call the police. Any one ever hear of this occuring when the killing is one of "honour"? When an "honour" killing is perpetrated, the body usually "disappears" and the family tries to cover up their crime. The father called the police himself and said he killed his daughter. Sounds like "passion" killing to me, not "honour" killing. Some folks are frothing at the mouth that this BE an honour killing so they can feel righteous about themselves (as in "See everyone! MY people would NEVER do such a thing!"). This Canadian pro wrestler strangled his wife (maybe she refused to follow his rules).... and some here are saying people don't strangle in the heat of anger... they are wrong....Wrestler Slayings
