What about this passage from the New Testament? Titus 1:10-16 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision(Jews): Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, the Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth. Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. Do you believe that? Yes, I believe it just as I believe passages in the Bible that warn against wrong doers who are gentile.

Yes but that was Jesus doing the punishment. As it says in the New Testament, only Jesus/God may punish as they are the only ones without sin. If you believe everything in the New Testament, then you must believe that only Jesus/God may punish people, but I think that goes contrary to what the vast majority of Christians believe. Can you show me the reference in the bible where it says this? Also, can you show me where it says in the New Testament that homosexuality is a sin? Thanks. Here's some references on what I was refering to. Matthew 18:15-17 deal with someone who sins in the church. My memory was slightly off as this was concerning sinning in general. On homosexuality being wrong, Romans 1:26-27 spells out that it's wrong.

I'm one of those "pick and choose" Christians. I believe in the fundamentals of forgiveness, charity etc. but I do not take the bible literally. Does that make me Christian? I don't know. And no, I am not gay. Christianity is based on both the Old Testament and the New Testament. You can not "pick and choose" what you believe. The Old Testament is still, supposedly, the word of God. When Jesus came he specifically removed certain aspects of the Old Testament, like the Sabbath & what food can be eaten...but the rest still applies. If you are a Christian, do you not still believe that we came from Adam & Eve? Isn't that what most Christians believe? So why is it ok to pick and choose verses from say Genesis, but not from other books of the bible? And by the way, how many people live by the word of the New Testament. Do you believe in punishment? Sorry, I guess you can't since if you believe everything the New Testament says then you would let God cast the first stone. P.S. Can you show me exactly what Jesus said about homosexuality? It's been a while since I've read the bible so I can't remember. Yes, the OT is still the word of God, but He 'passed' a new covenant. So the laws of the OT no longer apply. Thats why we no longer sacrifice animals, for instance. As far as punishment goes, Jesus himself took a whip and drove the money changers out of the temple. We are to judge people's actions, but not their salvation. I believe it is Peter who lays out how to treat someone who is openly living in a sinful lifestyle in the church. You go to that person to correct them first in private(Of course only those who really love would be chosen to do this). If if the sinful person still persists, they are to be admonished in front of the congregation. If still no change, they must be not allowed to belong to the church. How's that for casting stones. I suggest you pick up the Bible once in a while, if you approach it with an open heart, God will show you what you need to know.

Bush's pig tales show disengagement
sharkman replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
This is what a lot of Americans believe, as well. Throw Halliburton in also. And foreign governments. Have you heard how they sold our biggest voting machine company (Smartmatic) to a foreign country? It's a big topic over here that now our votes cannot be audited...there is no paper trail. Not good news for people who already think the last presidential election was rigged! People love to believe conspiracy theories, but the reality is usually much different. Can you recall any of the Clinton theories that were making the rounds in conservative circles? -
Yah, uh, what about what God says. You know, the one their church is based on? I love it when people pick and choose which stuff they'll follow in the bible and which they decide to ignore. Specially when they are priests for crying out loud. Are you a Christian? Do you believe everything the bible says? Do you think homosexuals should be killed? " 'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." Leviticus 20:13 Should anyone who blasphemies be stoned to death? "anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him. Whether an alien or native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death" Leviticus 24:16 Or maybe stone to death a stubborn & rebellious son? "If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, 19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. 20 They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." 21 Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death" Deuteronomy 21:18-21 I could go on and on but I wont. Virtually everyone picks and chooses what they want to believe, I doubt there are many, if any, people who believe every word of the bible. The examples above are just a few reasons why. So if these priests want to "tie the civil knot", I say kudos to them for standing up for what they believe in, even if it is not popular. Only God can judge their actions, not others in the Church of England. Yes, it just so happens I am. Are you a christian? Are you gay? Here is some information for you and those who bring up wacky Old Testament laws. Christianity is not living under the old testament dispensation anymore. When Christ was crucified, it ushered in the new covenant of the new testament. Only a very few don't believe Christ was the Son of God and still follow Old Testament law. By the way, the New Testament still speaks against homosexuality.

Where the h*ll did that come from? Nice to see people still like to completely misrepresent what others post. This is disgusting. Just where did you get the idea I was suggesting such things. Admin: What is up with this? This is a complete misrepresentation of my post. It is beyond sickening. The idea of re-opening the death camps is abhorant. Yet this poster is suggesting I am proposing exactly that. What am I going to be accused of being next? A war criminal? Well there's one person for the ignore list. Did it even take ten posts? I have no opposition to a Jewish state, at all. I do think the choice of LOCATION for the Jewish state was about as idiotic a decision that was ever made in the 20th century. Uh, no it not a bad location. A people's homeland is their homeland and that's been the Jewish homeland for 1000's of years. The whole 'middle east' problem of Palestine has been engineered by evil leaders who used Palestinians and their resulting deaths for political gain at the UN. If you want to be outraged at something, there it is.

Polls are showing that Canadians are doing what they've always done, being blown around by every shifting wind. The only poll that counts is on election day. If you don't like Harper's stand on Israel, you can at least respect that he takes a position based on his reasoning and logic, not wetting his finger and sticking it up to see which way will get him the most votes.

I started boycotting Mel Gibson's movies boycotting when he made Passion of the Christ. I stopped going to his movies when he made Bird on a Wire. <heh> Still haven't seen Braveheart. And never will now. Man, if you boycott based on every movie star's stupid behaviour, you'll have a mighty short list of movies you allow yourself to watch. BTW, Braveheart was incredible and still is.

Yep, he was responsible for his words of racism, under the influence or not. He should be ashamed that he's allowed racism to creep into his mind. It seems rather ironic, however, that when some in our society use being drunk as an excuse for all types of crimes(from rape to murder) and lifestyles now won't give Mel a second chance for something (the racist remarks) that isn't even a crime. The Main Stream Media is on him like white on rice, but they gave Woody Allen a much easier time when he left his wife and married his own STEP DAUGHTER!! He's doing fine, and has directed many movies since. The reason the MSM has dropped the hammer on Mel is simple: he's a conservative Cathlolic, therefore it's open season on him. For instance, this story has been repeated for three days and has been in the news longer than the Jewish center that was shot up. As if it's worse. I predict once the MSM get over themselves and quit asking to each other whether Mel's career is over, he'll be back at it, making movies just like before. And maybe a little wiser.

Sorry, but that's quite beyond unrealistic. He'll go when his term is up and many will miss him.

NEWSFLASH: They are not blaming Africans, Chinese, Indians(from India) nor a host of other off white people. They are blaming nutbars from various nations who planned and carried out 9/11. CNN and others is calling this a crisis in the middle east. Actually it's just more of the usual. Peace will never work over there as long as Israel exists. So expect more diplomacy by other means.

It always scares me when stuff like this happens. Soft targets have very little protection. I live close to synagogues and a large Jewish community campus. Everyone is in danger from a determined attacker. I'm really surprised at the lack of response on this particular thread. I can't help but wonder what the response would be if it had been a crazy Jew who stepped into a building of Arabs and opened fire. At any rate, once again it was interesting to see the true colours of the media who at first were super conservative(imagine!) cautious about reporting whether this nutbar was a Muslim who hated Jews, when his announcement upon entering the building for all to hear removed any doubt. Except for said media.

Shhhhhh! Don't let the cat out of the bag! He's the ace in the hole for the Republicans.

After all, it's been shown in several recent confllicts how smart bombs are only so smart. Obviously, the Hezzies were pressing close to the UN to use it as a shield of sorts, and since the UN did nothing about that, they were giving silent consent to being used as a shield at the least.

Is Canada Branding itself as a Gay country?
sharkman replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I heard that some areas are actively marketing to gays. It seems kind of a small segment of the market though, STATSCAN says about I% of Canadians are gay. -
I believe the UN cut and run from Iraq about the time the invasion(of Iraq) started. They run when it suits them. Heros? Right. Since they haven't uttered a supportive word towards Israel in, oh, about a decade, I'll wager they stay and eagerly add up the bodies. Gerry, there isn't a cease fire yet, is there? Maybe after Israel roots out the twits who are sending rockets into their country.

Ah yes, that shinig example of nirvana that liberals keep pointing to whenever sex issues are being discussed. No doubt Scandinavian Love is much freer and better than North American. In truth, this is what happens in a society when perverted sex becomes the new norm. 20 years later you need more perversion to keep it spicy, and down the slippery slope you go.

1992 election- Clinton= biggest cheater?
sharkman replied to windyman's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Have to disagree on this one, Perot did indeed harm Bush Sr's results, and the Dems loved him for it. This time around, people even on this forum were warning to vote 'strategically' in order to not let a Tory win. In B.C. during the 90's, the NDP won power with around 37% of the vote simply because of vote splitting. I think Ralph Nader even helped Bush Jr the first time around, although bitter conspiracy theory fans insist it was the Supreme Court. -
Bush's pig tales show disengagement
sharkman replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Maybe you should study the video some more without the Newsday hack's Bush derangement syndrome and you'll see that Bush is simply doing what politicans and celebrities do when they don't want to comment on a certain issue. They avoid the question. The reporters keep hammering away, and get some comments in the end. By the way, Jon Stewart may not be the best source of news. -
Poll: Majority of Americans dumb as rocks
sharkman replied to Black Dog's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I couldn't help but butt in, even though I know Argus would be quite capable of pointing out that BD's opening remarks scorn all those who believe God created humans and believe in creationism. And since the context is Americans, it's plain that his remarks are bigoted towards Christians. Geez, with a title that says, "Americans dumb as rocks, support for creationism in the stratosphere", there is no guess work. I know, I know, you are probably ready for this response, BD, but your title betrays you. -
Where would she get these perposterous ides? U.S. soldiers accused of rape, murder Oh. Right. The same place she gets the idea that the U.S. is not worth dying for. I'm sure you can imagine how well that statement went over about a year ago, and now she's at it again, eh? Personally, I hope she moves south and Chavez can deal with her.

More Tory MPs question wisdom of another gay-marriage vote
sharkman replied to a topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Yes, well you see it's not about what people are doing in the privacy of their own bedrooms, living rooms or anywhere else. It's about homosexuals wanting the institution of marriage to define their co-habitations too. And, of course in canada it does, but many are hoping(myself included) that the laws are amended to preserve marriage for what it's been since the beginning of time. Give them legal unions and they'll have every right that any other Canadian has. They won't like it, but it is the same except for a word. -
Dubya's screw-ups, 1000+ with 2 years to go
sharkman replied to newbie's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Feel free to rebut the information. Polls indicate most disapprove of Bush's overall job performance as well. Personally, I don't think he's turned out the way conservatives had hoped, what with the deficit problems and other missteps. However, he came through with the Supreme Court nominations, and changing the balance on that will be one of his legacies. That alone makes him worth the price of admission in many books.
