Poll shows Conservatives within margin of error
Yodeler replied to geoffrey's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Everybody knows that. If everyone knows it why are there people wondering if there will be an election before the new year? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If there is a non-confidence vote on Nov. 15, the earliest, AND THE ONLY 2005 DATE, that the election could happen would be Dec. 27, right? And who would be blamed if Canadians had to go to the polls the day after Boxing Day? Paul Martin, of course. Speaking with Peter MacKay just the other day, he noted that Mr. Martin can choose to lengthen the campaign ... up to a 55-day limit ... meaning the vote wouldn't occur until January, after the holidays. -

31% one day, 28% the next ... where will it all end? In the late teens? -

Everybody knows that. What we DON'T know is if there will be one in January. I'm starting to think "yes". -

I hate to tell you this, but that's old news on this forum. LOOK!: http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums/index.p...=15entry74838 What puzzles me, is that no one replied to it when it was brand spanking new news (BEFORE the papers got hold of it), but now that every two bit newsman has had a crack at giving his/her opinion on it, everybody here jumps on it. What's the matter? Is everyone here afraid to form an opinion that is entirely their own? -

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> BINGO! -
It's called "blackmail"! That's what Rick Harrison calls it in his letter to the NP today. He says: "Instead of bringing down this corrupt party, NDP leader Jack Layton does what any other Third World politician would do; blackmail them for his own benefit. What a country!"

I sure DID notice how even Martin's haircuts have been of late. Not in a million years could I guess that THAT'S how his barber does it. My guess was that he must have switched from scissors to that wonderfuly precise haircutting machine called the "Flowbee". That's how Stephen Harper's wife does it.

I am sensing that Yodeler is our 'troll de jour'. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I meant that as a positive trait on the part of the Americans.

I think that if we could figure out a way to beam some kind of sterility ray out of the tube at anyone who watches they we'd vastly improve the human race. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It wouldn't improve the human race but it sure as hell would improve many a second rate actor's chances. Poor MH.

I'm not. And I bet you that it's not the Americans who are doing the major interrogating. They don't have the stomachs for it.

When asked if Martin should have been aware of what was happening he replied .... "he was aware just as I was aware". Than he mumbled something about that it was Martin who put up the money. I liked that! Couple that with Ralph Klein's answer when asked whether if he were Paul Martin would he resign ... "Of course I would - unless you hung me first. I would say that I couldn't find a place far enough away to hide." ... and, I must say, I have a sneaky suspicion that things may look very rosy for Mr. Harper come Spring.

Ever since Gomery's wife told us there would be no surprises ........ http://www.canada.com/components/printstor...f2-7bdee6bfa538 ........... I haven't been interested and thus not made any comment on it. Must have been someone else, Eureka. I'm glad you thought of me though, I LOVE to see my name in print.

Oh my God ... I'm so sorry! I didn't know that this thread was about the last election. I thought it was about THIS election. How could that have happened, you ask? I will tell you how! You see, I have a dirty little habit of snooping on what other posters are reading by going to the attendance section and clicking on "Last Click" button. Then, by clicking on the topic others are viewing I view what they view. I just hope that the poster who viewed this 2 year old thread yesterday at about 2 pm steps forward so that there is no doubt in ANYONE'S mind that this was merely an honest little mistake on my part. Thanks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Look look ... as I am talking to you someone is viewing a 2 year old thread. I bolded it. LOOK!!! That's what I like about professional comedians. They can sense when the line they used was only mildly amusing and don't use it twice. -

Oh but there was. Saddam ran a terrorist haven, .... You went to a lot of effort to refute my comment, but only after carefully taking it out of context. The full comment read "There was no threat to America from Iraq, at least not from the Iraq military". More obfuscation??? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If there is no threat coming from the country's military but merely from the terrorists that flourish there .... I wouldn't use my military to quash them. These problems aren't new. If I were President I would be have been prepared by now by letting the anti-terrorist terrorists flourish in my country, then let THEM deal with this phenomena. G.W. Bush had no choice this time around, but I hope he is listening! -
Americans watching Canadian shows?
Yodeler replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Canada / United States Relations
"DaVinci's Inquest" is the only Canadian show I've ever enjoyed in my life. It was great by any standards. However, I realize that they're trying to follow old Larry ... but will "DaVinci City Hall "be as good? I don't know about anyone else, but I really loved the bodies in the park, the meals in dives, the strolls on the lower East Side, the bone fragments ... the whole cast . I mean can shuffling paper be as fun? And what about Ian Tracy? A fabulous character. Evidently he branches off as the Coroner in a new show at the end of November. This may be the show I'll continue with. -
It's just like something Pierre Trudeau would say. I like Pierre Trudeau.

The way our immigration is going, soon we could have a Prime Minister by the name of Mohammad. I'm going to miss beer.

How far down the ladder have we gone to consider Sears to be an upscale store? But now that Target is ready to buy out The Bay, things are looking up. "Tar-jay" ..... I like it.

Gee, PocketRocket must be sweating bullets by now. Hey, Monty, do you mind if I enter you in NP's "Beautiful Minds" contest? Thx. -
I have to agree with you. During the "Black years" the NP arriving each morning was an event to be anticipated. Between Steyn, Blatchford & the good Lord Black's wife ... we had good reading every day. It's still a better paper than the other left wing rags here in Vancouver ... but oh! for those days to be back again!

Looks like all of the National Post's entries are in. » Charles Krauthammer » Margaret Atwood » Peter C. Newman » Conrad Black » Charles Krauthammer » Michael Ignatieff » Dr. Michael Walker » Charles Krauthammer » Lorne Michaels » Charles Taylor » Charles Krauthammer » Malcolm Gladwell » Irshad Manji » Charles Krauthammer » Tom Flanagan » Don Cherry » Charles Krauthammer » Mark Steyn » Margaret MacMillan » Charles Krauthammer Now it's up to you to pick the winner. You can pick one from the NP choices, or you can write in your own. Or you can simply put the above names in a brown paper bag and then pick one. That's what I'm going to do.

Yodeler replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Here are some excerpts from the article. Pro Harper excerpts: "About 150 years ago a British industrialist famously mused that if every man in China just lowered his shirt-tail an inch, the textile mills of Manchester, England, could spin on forever. Canada's leaders still dream in much the same way today." "Prime Minister Paul Martin has recently been using the China card against the U.S. government, warning that if it doesn't follow the North American Free Trade Agreement, Canada has 'other options': Namely, selling timber to China and its 1.3 billion consumers." "But there's a rarely noted -- but massive -- barrier to all this optimism about selling our timber to Asia's rising giant. Namely, China's fetish for concrete." "One of the problems is that other developing countries want to sell China their wood, too, at prices far below Canada's." "The other challenge for lumber producers is the competition from countries like Russia, where lumber is available at a significantly lower price than in Canada." Pro Martin excerpts: "There's a booming industry in disposable wooden chopsticks," -
