Forget about straws for a minute. Think about cheese slices. Americans eat about 16 lbs of 'American cheese' a year. Some of that will be in spreadables, some in industrial blocks, but I'm guessing about half will be cheese slices, individually wrapped. (Think of all the burgers and sandwiches every day) A package of slices (just under a pound) has 22 slices. That's 23 pieces of plastic per package. So 8 x 23 x 340,000,000 = about 60,000,000,000 pieces of plastic a year. Thin plastic that breaks down into micro plastics that end up in the soil and the water, then in our foods. Even if my math isn't perfect, you get the point. I believe New York State has already taken one stab at banning them. Other jurisdictions will too. A ban can't come soon enough.

This is not about plastic straws. And not even about plastic packaging, much of which is necessary. It's about removing as much plastic as possible from the waste chain and food chain. You don't think that's a good idea?

You've said this a couple of times now. What it means is Poilevre can't be himself because if he is people won't like or trust him. (Glad you finally agree with what I've been saying for weeks.) I can't believe this id*ot wants to go backward on one of the worst environmental problems. We should be banning more plastics, like individually wrapped cheese slices. We're already finding micro-plastics in food and wildlife. What a troglodyte!!!

It looks like that study is only about wait-times, not outcomes or quality of care. While it sucks to have to wait too long (I know from personal experience), and that definitely needs improvement, I've always found that the quality of health care is excellent here.

My dad always had the car radio on the 'oldies' station - big bands, Frank, Dean.... I'm so grateful that he did 'cause I now equally appreciate Zappa and The Mills Brothers.

My son plays in a Metal band. Can't say he's made me a fan of the genre, but I have a great admiration for their passion and commitment to the moment, and how that moves a club full of young people.
