Trump paused all military aid to Ukraine... again. There is no peace deal. This aid that Trump has paused has already been approved by congress. This just weakens Ukraine's position without meaningfully contributing to peace in Ukraine in any way not solely to Russia's benefit.

Well your original lie was something along the lines of Europe is attacking freedom of speech. The first thing that comes to mind for stuff you ignore is the definition of freedom of speech, and the legal basis justifying PSPO zones. You also ignore that some statements need context to be true statements, and constantly lie about them being true without context. There's way more examples but I'd have to review the conversation to refresh my memory on it.

Name calling is the appropriate response when the other party is too stupid to comprehend reasonable arguments. Typical Right Wing Debate Strategy: 1. Lie 2. Ignore anything disproving lie 3. Claim the left can only insult you because they can't disprove your argument when they start giving you shit for how stupid step 2 is. You've already lost the argument when you decline to refute it on step 2, and any further discussion from you needs to receive harassment as that's the way humans have evolved to force aberrant individuals to reform.

Obviously it's paraphrased but you are illiterate if you don't acknowledge that's a valid interpretation of what he said. TLDR: He's claiming Europe is helpless and needs to just capitulate to Russia's Demands because there is nothing Europe can do if the U.S. sells out Ukraine.
-
This guy is pretty biased. "You should disrespect the U.S. and capitulate to Russia." Not everything he says is without merit. Europe can definitely be a stronger polity than it has been on this matter. It doesn't need to follow the U.S. orders. But Europe doesn't need to roll over and capitulate to Russia. And his insistence that Russia lacks imperialist goals in its invasion of Ukraine is laughable.

Cut the Americans some slack

Mutual respect is not the only thing to warrant respect. Respect for power and authority are also valid reasons, so while the US has tossed Mutual Respect out the window, we still have reason to respect their power. -
Yeah, although that does mean he won't capitulate to Russia unconditionally. If his interests are served by opposing Russia he will. There's no ideological conviction to it and he could be back to supporting Russia the next day, but he can oppose Russia.

I have been raised Christian my entire life. Speaking with other Christians has only caused me to conclude that other Christians are not a good source of bible interpretations. I was originally raised as a Roman Catholic. As I grew older I came to conclude that the belief in papal supremacy central to the catholic faith is false. Now I don't consider myself part of any particular church, a non-denominational Christian. Only your own faith can determine the correct interpretation of the bible. You can seek guidance when confused and unsure, but you cannot put your faith in other Christians explanations of the bible, you must put your faith in Christ and let Christ guide you to the truth.

Uh... you do know medical schools are not a 1 year program right? Although this does seem like a solid argument for needing more medical schools. -
Yeah, Liberals aren't doing the greatest job making life affordable. Which is why we criticize them for governing like conservatives, at least economically. The right sees them being socially liberal and campaigning on being socially liberal, the left sees them governing economically conservative and not focusing too much on the economy while campaigning. But if you're upset about the job Liberals are doing on the economy, voting for the conservatives is an insane response. Contrary to right wingers beliefs, Liberals do not lack the attention span to focus on both social issues and economic issues at the same time. The reason they're messing up the economy so badly is not because they're spending too much energy on social issues, it's because, despite spending adequate focus on the economy, conservative economics are awful.

Strictly speaking, secularism isn't about not having religion guide political policy in any way. It's about not having religious organizations hold political power. If the reason a politician supports a political policy is because of their religion, that's not anti-secular behaviour in and of itself. But people of faith should never confuse "Making religious beliefs a law of the land." And "supporting a law of the land because of religious beliefs." Religion is not a justification for a law on its own, you need other reasons.

Huh. I've a notification saying eyeball quoted me an hour ago but I don't see the post. Did they delete it?

"None of them were righteous" is quite the statement. Especially when the next line is The only biblical justification this man uses to reach his conclusion, ignoring all other evidence in support of suicide in the bible, at least suicide guided by faith. (If the suicide is caused by depression rather than faith that your suicide is needed to redeem your sins or serves the good of others it's sinful for plenty of other reasons) is: Except this is not an absolute condemnation of any act that causes someone to lose their life. Capital punishment is an explicit example of something god approves of. The bible does not contradict itself, therefor, the prohibition on murder must have context to what murder is that leaves open the possibility that suicide can be one of those permitted losses of life, and thus this verse alone cannot be used to contradict the verses that support sacrificing your life. Resolving the contradiction requires faith, but my faith tells me that some suicides are noble. For "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 KJV

Than you misunderstood me. I wasn't talking about all other gods, I was talking about Christ. I could have been more clear though. Even if you practice a different religion, if you also accept Christ into your heart God may choose to forgive you for the sin of having another god before him. Fundamentally based on a misunderstanding. You rejected my claim that individuals who don't perfectly follow Christ can still potentially get into heaven and said it was a made up religion not based on the bible at all. If you had truly believed that it would be rejecting the bible. But it was actually a misunderstanding on your part that didn't understand what I was trying to say. The actions described in the verse are what you called an evil thing not the verse itself. .You are claiming that "The greatest act of love." is just one of the many evil things recorded in the bible for the sake of telling the full history of events, and that got does not approve of the greatest act of love.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/world/europe/ukraine-zelensky-minerals-peace.html What are the odds that Zelensky offers the US access to resources in Russia occupied Ukraine and Trump sends in the U.S. army to kick Russia out so the US can access them?

Yes. God can certainly tell if your interpretation of God's will is truly God's will, or a perversion of God's will, and the devil loves to convince the followers of God that the Devil's words are God's words. But this doesn't just apply to the Leaders of the time, even Christians can worship the devil as their father instead of the Lord, without knowing that they do so. To suggest that Moses was one of these false believers is completely unfounded however. Jesus is not claiming that Moses words were the Devil's words, but that these leaders interpretations of Moses' words were the Devil's words. -
Sort of. It's a strange complaint to make though. If I was about to walk into a river thinking myself fine, and a local warned me that the river is full of piranha and I was able to stop myself from entering I would be quite grateful. Fundamentally, a good Christian warning others about hell is not some way to disgrace or humiliate them or to win an argument, it is to give them warning out of love that what they are about to do is harming themself. It's not something worthy of criticism.

And again you have denied the bible. Luke 23:39-43 KJV: 39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise. God is the final arbiter of who gets into heaven, but even someone who mocks christ the hour before he dies who repents just before death can enter heaven. There's no security in that kind of thinking though, so I don't recommend it. What if you die suddenly without warning?

It's certainly a belief some Christians hold. 2 Thessalonians 1:9 KJV Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; I interpret to be an explanation of annihilationism. If you are sent to hell, your soul will eventually be destroyed. You certainly won't have eternal life. But being denied God's grace is an eternal punishment, you just won't exist anymore to experience it, and god will not undestroy your soul at some point in the future and bring you back to life, you're gone forever. Christians do teach that the only way to obtain Salvation is through faith in Jesus and that their souls will go to hell after they die if they don't receive Salvation. It's not so strict as all sinners will go to hell though. Believing in other faiths or atheism are sins, but sins can be forgiven. If you have any faith in God at all you might still be able to receive Salvation.

Make America great again means more just, not more rich
Videospirit replied to Gaétan's topic in Religion & Politics
The concept of the new covenant does not throw out the old testament in its entirety. You do need to be more critical of the old testament than the new testament though, as parts of the old testament were overridden, but the parts that were not overridden are still valid. The new covenant is an update not a replacement of the old. The new testament certainly doesn't deny the old testament was divinely guided or suggest that Moses was some evil figure. Such a declaration certainly isn't in line with the belief's of Jesus. -

I'm pretty sure to be born of water refers to baptism. And you can't disregard the parts of the bible that aren't Jesus exact quotes, but they certainly don't contradict each other. It's a principle that nothing in the bible is contradictory. But understanding the bible requires faith. If something seems contradictory you must have misunderstood something, and you must use your faith to resolve that misunderstanding. Many use these misunderstandings to justify evil. Rejecting the core tenet of Christianity that one should love their neighbour, but if you look to the bible with the love of Jesus in your heart the truth should be clear. Although in my personal experience, When one of the supposed contradictions lies in part from one of Jesus direct quotes, that quote is less likely to be what is misinterpreted than the other part of the bible that you think contradicts it if you let love for neighbours resolve your confusion. -
Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences of speech. The law doesn't criminalize speech, it criminalizes harm. It's not a limit on free speech.
