Trudeau wants to ban handguns and toys?
ExFlyer replied to Nationalist's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I apologies for including you in the generic "you" term. This forum is so negative against the main stream media I just group the posters here in one lump. I actually believe that legal gun owners are not a problem whatsoever. I don't think the government is using deceit or lies or false and twisted information, they are just bowing to public pressure. I do not judge gun owners, I questioned why handguns, not judging, just questioned. My stance is just that the government is doing what the public wants, and the majority of the public. This is a democracy and as a rule, majority wins. This list? I did not see shotguns, pellet guns or air soft or bolt action. "there are approximately 90 000 restricted firearms that would be affected; " but that is manufactures list as opposed to types or styles. https://silvercore.ca/2022/04/01/the-complete-ban-list-of-newly-prohibited-firearms-in-canada-as-of-may-1-2020/ -
Are people more racist today
ExFlyer replied to Robert Salyers's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Nope, just saying you blather . I don't use a phone either, so there LOL I dictate nothing to no one and you are right, it is in no way about me. I just insinuated that you are long winded. My opinion, I am allowed to have it. -
Don't forget the North. I am off to Yellowknife this coming week. I am travelling internationally. France in July is next and have to comply with their rules and requirements. If unvaccinated (which is what I think you are referring to) you need to have the same proof of negative PCR testing you do in Canada.

Don't do Twitter but also don't read thesis on a discussion forum A rational discussion does not have to tire one out and be many paragraphs long. -
No federal governments have done anything about Quebec language or any other laws they pass ever. Federal Liberals or Conservatives, makes no difference. Hell, we, in Canada, like Quebec so much we always elect Prime Ministers from Quebec. Quebec gets to do what it wants, when it wants without recourse, forever.

I agree with your paragraph 1 but, your anti tourism rant is nonsense. To even assume people working in tourism jobs can be working in STEM is well, presumptuous. The service industry is an industry that has more employees than any other in this Country. Tourism, in this Country and others is also a way of teaching and informing and yes, showing off the best of a Country. As for getting away from people, well, in all of Canada's 10 million square kilometres, I think there are places that you can hide

Huh? I am having a discussion. Making points and counter points and being devils advocate on the situation you can not see past your own biases. Sad you are such a narrow minded person and cannot see alternatives or others opinions. -

I am not calling it anything. The official statement is calling it a freeze. The media, which so many including you despise, but wen it suit narratives, you use them:) Emotions come into play when something is done that rankles the beliefs and desires a person wants. Owning guns is such a thing for some, a minority by the way. The government is responding to public outrage and the general public seem pleased with what they are doing. As for owning or being able to purchase hand gun, well, if you own them now, you are fine but if you want to buy one, you may have to wait for a while, (till this event runs it's course). Just to be devils advocate, there is really no reason to own one and if you say for personal protection, that is really a stretch. For sport is also not really valid. I am completely unsure what you mean with "Want this to be a level playing field"? What playing field is the government supposed to be playing in? In the field of public opinion?? I will say again, I am not pro or anti gun. -
I travel internationally (US earlier this year and Europe next month) so need to be current on what is required. I am not liberal and do not care for the present government but, I do understand that this government is no better or worse than many others in the world and we live by government requirements of the countries we visit. If you ever left your enclosure and off facebook and youtube, you may realize what is actually going on in the world Your hate of liberals has you completely out of touch of what is going on in the world. Your blinders need to come off. LOL

To what?? Cost of living is constantly going up. Like I said before, no one owes anyone a house.

There are other countries that have travel restrictions and requirements to enter the country. https://ottawa.citynews.ca/local-news/more-than-40-countries-still-require-travellers-to-have-covid-19-travel-insurance-5463269?utm_source=SND&utm_medium=Facebook&utm_campaign=AutoPilot https://hellosafe.ca/en/travel-insurance/summer-map-2022?utm_source=citynews ottawa&utm_campaign=citynews ottawa%3A outbound&utm_medium=referral

Lets just keep it real. A freeze on handguns, not an outright ban. The buy back is for assault style weapons, not all rifles or long guns and certainly not from registered owners although , under the old law, you can turn in any weapons you wish. "gun control legislation the federal government tabled Monday includes a national freeze on the purchase, sale, importation and transfer of handguns in Canada. The government also is pledging to start buying back thousands of banned assault-style weapons before the end of the year. While the proposal falls short of a full ban on handguns, it would effectively limit their number in Canada. "In other words, we're capping the market for handguns," I understand the emotions involved but, emotions sometimes leads to misinterpretations. Also, I am not pro or anti guns but am pro factual information. -
All the doom-saying in your past few posts yet, whomever you support did not have enough to even put up a good fight and get enough supporters out. Like the last time, the provincial liberals whined and whined but bottom line is, the voters spoke. All the conservatives on this forum should be jumping for joy

Don't be pissed at me. I only said that the proposal is to freeze handgun sales. I am not sure the government is "seizing" long guns. No one is coming to your house and taking your registered guns away. I believe that it is a voluntary thing to turn in your guns. I also believe it has always been there but is just being advertised again. I am not pro nor anti gun. And no, I do not own any weapons. I am a city boy and do not hunt. I am quite familiar with them and have used them in my Military career. Crime is crime and with the resources available, they do what they can. Friends and relatives in the law enforcement game always say that whatever they do, the judicial and legal system undoes. Criminals have rights you know LOL And yes, the Canadian population is very much in favour of and demanding social programs. -

I agree but in the eyes of the general public, gun control will too and they are happy the government is doing that. Firstly, no one is taking any guns away. That is over dramatic and false. Secondly, if the guns were in fact taken, how would that hurt anyone except the pocketbook of the owner? Thirdly, freezing the sales of handguns was never intended to prevent illegal gun crimes. We all know illegal guns come from somewhere. The question is where. (lots of assumptions but who knows) As I said "Having said all that, I do think the actions of the government is a way over reaction due to American incidents and we here in Canada do not have this problem severe enough for this type law but, the general Canadian public is very pleased with this action." -
REIT's are Canadian. the link is not specifically Canadian. Rental costs go up, but so do ownership costs. Do landlords absorb those or take a loss? I am only trying to say that housing cost sand rental costs are very different world wide as they are in Canada too. We seem to concentrate on the 3 major cities when speaking of housing and rentals without taking into account that the cost of operation in those major cities is also skewed. Nationalist, above has some very good points. And look what he accomplished. It was certainly not easy and certainly nothing guaranteed or given to him. When I was "growing up" in the housing world, we only had one income and it was difficult, very difficult. The norm today is dual incomes, major vacations, very often 2 cars and lots of stuff. I did not have any of that and we were very house poor for a long time. Not saying we were a total transitory group back then but, we did move to where we could afford to live. (do not want to open up that debate but we did what we had to). We, or the government, do not owe a house to anyone.

None of what you posted makes sense. How does "restrict and/or banning guns leading to more crime not less" that happen? Please provide some data on that statement. There is none because that is BS. "law abiding victims of criminals will be less able to defend themselves? Please tell me/us how many people have defended themselves with a hand gun in Canada? "negative feedback loop"? What the H is that?? The problem is crime, regardless of weapon choice. I already said that. What kind of rectal pluck is "freezing handgun sales to law-abiding citizens increases the amount of crimes committed with handguns by criminals"? Where did you get that information and data? A criminal will get what they need regardless of any law, making handguns difficult to get for everyone will also make it difficult for criminals. So, where will criminals get their guns? Go to a store and buy them? Oh wait, they can't. Steal them? From who? The store or the people that have them. Police do what they can. What else do you suggest they do?? What logic are trying to imply here?? There are approx 1 million handguns in Canada but I cannot find out if that includes police weapons. Here is some gun data, by a gun lobby. Quite interesting. https://thegunblog.ca/facts-stats/ Having said all that, I do think the actions of the government is a way over reaction due to American incidents and we here in Canada do not have this problem severe enough for this type law but, the general Canadian public is very pleased with this action.
