Dirty Doug’s Den of Deplorable Developer Deals
ExFlyer replied to BeaverFever's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
"My problem with that line of argument is" that all things in perspective. 1.Housing is the number one issue in Canada and Ontario right now. Do you have a solution for the housing crisis? Houses need to be built somewhere. Taking 3000 acres out of 2,000,000 for the immediate needs is valid. The "real consequences" are that houses are needed and empty land is not. 2. That is the stupidest thing i have read in a long time. If you have alternatives, demonstrate them but, it seems there is none for the housing crises. There is a lot of "Cry wolf" going on. Land sitting fallow may look pretty when photographed form space but it does nothing for growing cities or communities. The unfortunate fact of things is, you need land to build housing for people. The AG never said you do not need to use that land, it said they don't like the way it was done. The government said it will do 14 of 15 the recommendations. 3. And what may be the "inverse to the larger reality"? Whining about land and whining about lack of housing ....which need is greater and more immediate? There is always a price to pay for progress and making things happen for the people. What did environmentalists bring to the party except complaining and whining. No environmentalist has ever brought forth any solution or, even more importantly, physical or fiscal assistance tor issues and crisis. When there is a need, unpopular decisions will always have to be made and the decision for the people is far better than the whining of naysayers with no solutions. Having said that, the persons in government hat somehow skewed this development process to only 2 developers should be investigated and potentially fired. For the government to agree with and do something with 14 out of 15 recommendations is commendable but that last one is key, and ministers staff need to be investigated and held accountable for the handling of the land transfer. In the end, what is more important, places for people to live or plants?? -
The LCBO is eliminating the use of paper bags because....it "says will save the equivalent of 188,000 trees each year." https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/lcbo-paper-bags-phase-out-1.6824100 While it is not really a big deal but, if eliminating paper bags is so environmentally conscious, how come they still publish that 100 page glossy Food and Drink magazine...in French and English. I wonder how many trees it would save if they stopped that magazine?? Which is less useful than the paper bags.

China's unrelenting influence campaign in Canada

We have FARA, Foreign Agent Registry Act,.... since 1938 "FARA was enacted in 1938 and requires certain individuals acting on behalf of foreign principals (governments, entities or individuals) who are engaged in political activities or other activities under the statute to register as a “foreign agent” with the Department of Justice." https://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/trnsprnc/brfng-mtrls/prlmntry-bndrs/20210625/20-en.aspx Seems no government has done anything with it....ever, or at least I cannot find any evidence of any action on it. We Canadians have laws but are too non offensive,. LOL -

Not to deny the housing ministers chief of staff dubious/ dishonest dealings but, the greenbelt is over 2,000,000 acres. A few acres around Markam and Niagra for much needed housing will not destroy the greenbelt. Just a different perspective. Oh and, not a Ford supporter but definitely not NDP and not fond of John Fraser. -

I cannot only blame liberal government for his phenomenon. Yes, i tis now the news of the day but, it is an age old issue. I believe that regardless of who is in power, there is foreign "interference" or "assistance". Regardless of the candidate of whatever party, these countries or organizations butter their bread on all sides. There have been "questionable decisions involving china" for decades. Politics lives off donations. From who or where the donations come from is a topic that pops up every once in a while. There are no clean hands in any party. -
If any costs go up, how can there be savings realized? Any time there is an increase to energy (any energy) the impact is an increasse in cost of everything. Also, by 2050??? All levels of government seem to be making statements about what their proposals and policy will be 30 years hence. What a load of BS. We need policy for now, not 30 years in the future.

If CSIS is so sure then why is it not informing the public who this MP is and what actions it is going to take on them? If not naming who the MP is, then why is it that they still sit in the house? -

Au Contraire, can be and is a slogan for every political party. They all like to criticize the past actions. -
Thank you for that. As a now disillusioned "environmental activist" you have described us, Canadians, exactly as we are. Yes, we want clean energy and less pollution and zero carbon emissions but, we do nothing except tax ourselves. It is not EV's that will gobble up the short supply of energy, it is the immediate rush to build millions of homes. Homes will require a lot more energy than EV's by a long shot. We need those "nuclear energy, natural gas, hydro, etc" energy sources but we needed to start building infrastructure and facilities 5 years ago if we wanted them online by 2030 or 2035 or even 2050. Anyway, I agree with you in your entirety. We are failing at everything.

How could you? The Chinese do not advertise or have political campaigns like we do. They do not have elections like we do. Is there underground tactics used in their "elections"? I am sure there are but again, they do not have the same freedoms to accuse as we do. Inconsistencies and irregularities are probably taken care of in the dark of the night LOL -
I apologize but I tend to respond to attack. EDIT: I had a long thought out response here to address your comments but changed my mind and deleted it. Just to say, in the same uniform or not, I have lost respect for dougie. Sorry.
