With Trump I wouldn't count on the US defending anyone. The fact that the US can no longer be trusted will result in some significant changes in the way countries think about defence. That willl be a lasting legacy of MAGA that I'm not sure Americans will like.

Many US refineries depend on and can only refine our heavy oil. They have no other options than Venezuela who's industry is in tatters and because there are no pipelines from tidewater to supply them if it wasn't. Sure they could change but it will be very expensive and time consuming. New refineries cost between 5 and 15 billion USD to build.

Supply management means user pay instead of government subsidies like the US. Their banks aren't banned, our rules just an aren't cowboy enough for them. Several US banks do commercial business in Canada, but not retail banking. We are soft on crime. Who were we proxy for when we detained Meng Wanzou? Boy was that a mistake.

Apparently there was only one controller on duty due to short staffing. Another possibility being mentioned is that the aircraft may have been on different frequencies. Civil aircraft use VHF and the military mostly uses UHF. In this case, the pilots can only hear the controller and not the other aircraft's reply. What is sickening is that no one seems to care why 67 people died, all they can do is make political garbage out of it, including the POTUS.
