I watched that show. I like Brand as a comedian and he has some worthwhile things to say but as a guest of Maher's he was a complete boor. He just shouts everyone else down, including Maher. Heilemann was justified in giving back just a little of what Brand was dishing out. I was disappointed in Brand.

My money is on option two.

Still doesn't deserve the death penalty. I know it is a tough job but if cops can't keep their emotions in check and act professionally, they should at least get some help and departments should make that help available without penalizing an officer. I hate it when cops do things that make the whole profession look bad.

Unfortunately they are having too many incidents where people are being killed by police for reasons that don't warrant anything near killing them.

I don't have an obsession with racism, I just responded to a statement that more whites are killed by police than blacks. Of course, there are 4.5 times as many of them.

What about the poor, do their lives matter less?

I'm on the north side of my seventies as are many of my friends. All are vaxed and boosted and most have had Covid. For all of them including myself, symptoms have just been a couple or three bad days then gradually getting better for the next week or so. Some have had fatigue that has lasted around a month. I credit the vaccines for the fact none of them have had severe illness, had to go to hospital or even see their GP.

Sounds so simple when you take it out of context. Problem is, it ignores the fact there are 4.7 times as many white people in the US than black. Whites are killed by police at a rate of 2.3 per million population and blacks at 5.9 per million population or 2.5 times as often. Why that is happening is certainly open to discussion but yes, cherry picking to reflect the opposite of reality can be racist.

It was Europeans who set up the slave ports in West Africa and shipped millions of them to the Americas. The Portuguese shipped 4 million to Brazil alone. It was slavery on an industrial scale. Whataboutism is not an argument, either slavery is OK or it isn't.

Logic would be a better word. Hemings was a slave and there is no record of Jefferson ever freeing her. She was still a slave when she died.
