Like where? I keep asking. Yes there are long wires, almost all from large hydro projects. Unless several run of river projects close to each other can be linked together, each will require a dedicated line connecting it to the grid. Every line travelling through bush is a potential fire source if not maintained properly. The Camp Fire in Northern California was caused by poorly maintained PGE hydro wires. That fire was the world's most expensive natural disaster in 2018 and killed 85 people.

Again, name calling. Where can the Peace take two more? The reservoir from Site C extends almost to Hudson Hope and more than half way to the Bennett dam. Downstream of Site C it isn't far to the Alberta border. Try looking at a map sometime. Just because studies may have identified five possible sites where a dam could be located, doesn't mean all five can be built. For the last time, I do not support carbon taxes, it just penalizes people who cannot afford to change. You can't punish people who are barely making it into making expensive changes. Don't throw JT at me, he is a p**s poor example. He is the guy who took his family on a private flight to Costa Rica for a summer vacation. He has no business preaching to anyone.

Since taking office, Willis's department has a conviction rate of over 90%. -
He did not. He said we have lots of rivers left to dam and when I challenged him he named one river that has already been dammed twice. He said there were thousands of viable run of river sites when the source he quoted identified only 121 that were economically viable. What good are run of river sites in the middle of nowhere which would cost a ton and do lots of environmental damage to tie to the grid?
-
I never said there were no places to build dams or increase hydro capacity. I challenged you to name rivers we can dam and you provided basically nothing. I also debunked your claim that there are thousands of practical sites for run of river. The longer we do nothing to mitigate the causes, the more severe the consequences and the less time we will have to adapt to them. That should be obvious even to you.
-
You have no idea what the cost of adapting will be. You don't even know what we will have to adapt too. Will we have to build 30 foot dykes to protect the whole lower mainland of BC all the way to Hope because of sea level rise? What about all our other coastal population centres. We can't totally eliminate use of fossil fuels, for one thing, batteries just don't provide enough portable energy to be practical for more than light duty use.

I’m saying they could only find 121 sites that could produce power at three times the cost of legacy power. God only knows what it would cost from those THOUSANDS other sites you talk about. I’m also not saying we should give up on developing clean power but how clean is it if we butcher the environment to do it. It will take a lot more than just hydro to provide the kind of power we need to transition out of fossil fuels. Hydro provides only just over 20% of BC’s total energy consumption, almost all the rest comes from fossil fuels.

You said there are thousands of possible sites for run of river when in fact the source you provided found only 121 of the hundreds they identified that were viable to produce power at a reasonable cost and that was based on computer data, not actually inspecting the sites. Yes I think run of river will be most useful as a local power supply, less so to supply the grid. The NDP will not be in power forever and eventually they will have to deal with reality, as will we all. If we have to double and probably triple our generating capacity in future, we will need a variety of sources.

No we don’t we put them where nature put the water and the terrain that makes dams possible. We adapt to that. I just don’t believe there is some sort of silver bullet that will solve all our problems, it will be a combination of things, including changing some of our own behaviours. Hydro will be another.
