  1. I find it funny that the more I learn, the more "I don't know" is often the most intelligent answer to hard questions. And ghosts are scary, hahaha
  2. By my definition Anti-theist of the three is the only one I'd truly consider a "belief". Of the three the anti-theist is the only one claiming a fact/truth ( no gods exist) "Faith" to me is the reason people give for a belief when they can't provide evidence. Faith is not a reliable path to truth. The god claim is unfalsifiable, therfore a strong stance either way (theist or anti-theist ) denotes that the person making the argument is basing their opinion on personal feelings and not objective fact, logic or reason I along with most atheists/agnostics would be willing to accept the god claim if sufficient evidence could be provided. Im curious to your beliefs, and hope to continue this dialogue
  3. Thank you for the kind words, in my limited experience on this forum such responses have been few and far between, and I was beginning to think that nobody here was actually interested in rational conversation. For me it was the other way around, as I learned more about epistemology, scepticism and the laws of logic (I'm a highschool dropout, so I didn't even begin to understand such things until later in life) atheism was simply a natural progression. In regards the quote from professor Roderick, I look forward to researching him in-depth, as honestly that quote went a little over my head. Like I said, I have very little formal education, hahaha
  4. At the risk of being pedantic, we must differentiate between Atheist and Anti-theist The former denotes a lack of sufficient evidence to prove the god claim, the latter an affirmation that no gods exist, a small but important distinction. Agnostic refers almost exclusively to knowledge, while atheism speaks to belief
  5. So you're in agreement? Comprehensive is defined as including all or nearly all elements or aspects of something. Atheism revolves around a singular question does god exist. Scepticism on the other hand is a world view, dictating the epistemological way i come to decisions including the god question. "God" has nothing to do with my "world view" as god is not necessary in the world. Science ignores the god question and secular morality (an actual world view) far exceeds biblical teachings on the same subject So again, Atheism is not a world view, but simply an answer to one very small, insignificant question
  6. You literally said im someone you know from some random website you didn't even mention how is that putting me in a box? No mainstream church uses Leviticus? You're saying the Catholics or the baptists support same sex marriage? Thats from Leviticus or Deuteronomy take your pick Insulted you how so? The hijab and the burka are very different things, how many nurses do you see wearing one, a lot here in Montreal, go to any highschool their hijab matches their nail polish. The hijab is more akin with the kippah or a crucifix something worn more from pride then obedience. But keep calling me part of some nefarious lefty cabal, hiding in the shadows using multiple accounts to try and take you down, you may need to get some help for the paranoia though
  7. Christ over man, man over women, women over children, that's the Christian gods order as written in the Bible. Catholics still won't let women be priests, because the bible says as much But Muslims right?
  8. So the ten commandments are no longer relevant? Which denomination preaches that? Society went through a reform by distancing them selves from religion, refered to as separation of church and state. I too hope, those societies also distance themselves from their religion. My point is as its always been you can't use religion to denounce one society while ignoring that the religion that founded ours, that we moved away from has many of the same doctrines
  9. Someone asked me about wearing the burka(which i said i was against) you said "tens of thousands" the number of them is actually less by more then ten fold. You chose to to infer that a small majority of extremists are a representation of a much larger community. Answer me this do you think that out of a billion Christians spread out over thousands of denominations some still hold views that are literal interpretations of books like Leviticus? If the answer is yes(and it will be if you're being honest) then we agree, that's all i am or have said, again my wish is that no theocracy thrives regardless of which god it proports to serve
  10. Instant resort? i think i suggested once that may be the case, find my quote ill explain if i can. Dude compare my vocabulary to how poor my grammar is, i written more in the last 6 days as i have in rhe last six years. Why you feel the need to put me in some box you've invented i couldn't say, id i were to guess its easier for you to invent some enemy to justify the fact you have no real argument. Show me one example of where i said either christanity was worse then islam and/or anywhere i said i supported anything islam teaches( the anecdote about my buddy that drinks and smokes is not) So again, i don't like Islam and have never participated in this type of median before
  11. Defending islam? Not even slightly. Im saying they're all bad you're determined to separate the two, im simply pointing out the similarities. I was raised in a very religious home, and my parents were a great example of the love Christianity can inspire, but at the same time are against the civil union of same sex couples because the Bible says so. Of course they aren't actively hunting them down, but thats because in their heada god will judge them. This is two loving, accepting people that still have draconian views on many socially excepted practices. If you think pointing out the doctrine of a specific religion is bashing it, that speaks to the faith and not me quoting scripture
  12. Someone you've met before???? Seems like you're projecting some predetermined bias you have on me, this is the first and only forum i have ever posted on, no idea what this other place you speak of is or why you're attributing any sort of political leaning to me seeing as i haven't professed any. But you keep on making up a cabal coming after you
  13. . Oh, the big bad keyboard gangster, you're pathetic, son And if you think asking you to elaborate on a nonsensical comment you made is attacking you, you're a little bitch as well Having to resort to the threat of physical violence, [even though you know as much as i do you don't have the balls to do it, real tough guys guys don't make veiled threats behind the comfort of their computer( yours most likely in your parents basement)] further proves you're a pitiful, sad excuse for a man, and the only way you can boost your fragile inferiority complexed ego is to attempt to bring others down to the miserable level you exist on. I normally refrain from insulting people, not only here but in real life, but your utter lack of ability to conduct yourself as an intelligent adult, (to the point of pretending to be ready to shoot me because i asked a question, seriously some funny stuff) you warrant neither respect nor any further response. I encourage all others who read this to not engage with him either, regardless of political views. Unless is this par for this forum? I've only been here a week and find most posters to be partisan hacks. If this is normal here please tell me, i came here to both talk about various subjects with people that may, or may not share my opinion, and honestly, to work on my ability to express my views in written form(anyone with strong grammar knows it will be a long fight) , but if. "two in the chest, one in the mouth" is considered rational conversation here, I'll just leave now. please enlighten me to the reality here. Thank you
  14. That's because you know you have no defence for your ridiculous statement Oh and now you're a tough guy?? That's funny! You state opinions that you know you can't in anyway back up, then threaten me. How sad and weak of a man are you
  15. straw man? Did you not say without the monarchy confederation flies apart? Asking you for evidence to support your claim is not a straw man But you just keep deflecting, you know as much as i do you don't really have a defense
  16. Then please explain what the Law of moses is Leviticus and Deuteronomy aren't part of the moral code all Christians should follow as written by god? Who needs to read the Bible? Religious hatred and bigotry, i agree i hate almost everything religion stands for. I also know i have higher morals then the god of the Bible, Im blind? Please you pit one supernatural claim above the other, simply because you were raised a certain way
  17. I know, what i was asking was why she's asking me to defend your baseless claims. Speaking of which, stiil waiting on any kind of explanation as to your contention that a figure head is still somehow necessary to confederation. Oh ya, that's right you in no way feel the need to explain your reasoning right? Your content to just continue spouting nonsense
  18. I know that, but if you actually read what dougie has written he does not. He has specifically said that not only he hates Canada, and is only loyal to the British monarchy Maybe you just accidentally quoted me instead of him? Not sure, but asking me to defend something i said in jest responding to his original post that without the Queen Canada would fly apart. Is a best misguided
  19. Only him and his imaginary friends, but watch out they're planning to overthrow the Canadian gov't in the name of the Queen. Hahahaha
  20. You read the news? So what others think? You observe? Observe what? you just said all the Muslims you've met were decent. Think independently? Independent of your own observations? Don't worry about offending? Why would you want to offend those you call decent? Aren't defending Christianity? My only statement was all religions are bad, yet you continue to say how bad islam is, an opinion i share by the way Mohammed and Jesus are dead? Tell that to the people that still evoke their names to spred hate Blame the teachings? The teachings( or scripture) are of course the problem, and are the source of the hate people still endorse today. I hope and pray(joke intended) that people of all religions will see the clear superiority of secular morality.
  21. Apologies but Im confused, if every Muslim you know is decent( may i assume you mean conforms to Canadian standards of secular morality? If that's not your definition please elaborate) why do you choose to single out Islam, an admittantly barbaric religion while defending the demonstrably similar Christian faith that essentially teaches the same thing? Again, Mohammed was just the last in a line of profits that included Jesus. Meaning that the vast majority of teachings come from the exact same text
  22. funny how you chose to use the translation that said division instead of sword, but anyway No Christian law? Is god not the source and reason for all of morality for Christians ?( spoiler it is) , And is the entire Bible not the word of god? (It is as well) Apologists make me laugh, cherry picking the parts of the Bible to support their beliefs, not to mention the fact that there are tens of thousands of different Christian denominations in north America alone that all interpret their cherry picked parts of the Bible differently. Want to know what's wrong with Catholics ask a baptist, want to know what's wrong with baptists ask a Mormon, want to know what's wrong with the LDS ask a Muslim, want to know what's wrong with islam ask a Hindu, and so on, and so on. I just agree with all of them But you continue to defend your "God" that condones such things as slavery, genocide and misogyny, you apparently share his(or hers, hahaha) morals
  23. So you are a Christian? How do you feel about the teachings in the Bible about homosexuality, women or slavery just to mention a few? Again we are a secular society that has moved away from religion. The idea that we're that much farther advanced is laughable, the Catholic church without any official power controlled the province of Quebec until the 1950, but women's rights? There are women alive today born in this country without the right to vote You can't cherry pick the Bible to only follow the teachings you like, while chastising others for believing the passages you don't appove. Who are the Muslims in your entourage? I had a buddy over last night, born in Egypt to a devout Muslim family, moved here in highschool, still attends mosque and prays everyday, not only were we smoking erb and drinking alcohol, but he's to the left of me on most issues. This is much more representative of the Muslim population of Canada then the caricatureisation your prejudice wants ti suggest
  24. You think there are tens of thousands of burka wearing immigrants, coming to Canada every year? Please provide examples, they estimate less then 100 in Quebec, it being the second most populated province ,simple math says your off by a least a factor of ten. But yes bring them in so we can teach them how a free society works. This idea that were so much farther advanced is ludicrous. We need not go back very far to find a time the church controlled our lives disproportionately. Look how the Catholic church literally ran the province of Quebec until the 1950's, But women's rights, you say? There are women alive today, that were born in this country without the right to vote Its evident your slanted, self-righteous indignation, is based solely on opinion, and i would even suggest simply a ruse to go after brown people, but i may be wrong
  25. As ive repeated numerous times, no religion is moral. You on the other are demonizeing one barbaric religion over another and to do so are attempting to disregard the holy book they share. You're either a Christian trying to defend your faith while ignoring the book its based on, or your a non believer that hasn't even put in the work to understand they're both Abrahamic religions As i haven't studied eastern religions at the same level as the Abrahamic ones, im reticent to speak to much on them, but yes atrocities has been committed in the name of all "gods"
