So-called science has repeatedly erred in making false claims.
SkyHigh replied to blackbird's topic in Religion & Politics
So still just some book said a thing? Nothing to support your assertion? You should read up about how the bible came to be. You won't look so ignorant P.P.S still waiting for a response to all the evidence that proves Genesis false You can pick any of the almost half dozen disciplines I listed above, science deniers choice. -

Again you make the claim it's non-fiction, support that You can believe in anything you want but if all you have is a book written by anonymous authors , translated from copies of copies of translations, that claims ridiculous things like the Genesis creation account or the even more ridiculous idea of the flood, then I'm sorry but your god is as believable as Voldemort. P.S. you in no way addressed the mountains of evidence that completely contradict your "historical" , "holy" book -

Real question. You made the claim the bible is non-fiction, being that our current understanding of biology, genealogy, archeology, geology, paleontology , history, etc, etc, etc... clearly show the events in Genesis ,from creation to the flood (that being the book we've been speaking about)as well as Exodus , did not happen as told in the Bible. Therefore the burden of proof falls to you, so again any evidence to support your assertion? -

You claim the bible isn't fiction, any evidence to support that? -
Ok, that's what I was hoping. Hahaha

Agreed, you have nothing to offer. You don't care about truth and you're not a real Christian. -
I agree with your first point Don't really understand the Trudeau reference

So ... Some book says a thing. You don't seem to understand I don't believe in the bible, so using the bible to justify the bible is ridiculous. I could use the exact same logic to prove that Voldemort is true, the book says so. Do you now accept Voldemort? Of course you don't, why? For the exact same reason I don't accept your god. -
How sad must ones life be to take time out of their day to defend Hitler. Pathetic

You can't use the bible to prove the Bible, this is primary school logic. You continue to show you have no interest in truth. -

I know the bible better than you. I've actually read it , you listen to con artist preachers "interpretations" only interested in making money, making claims about a book that they and you don't really care about the message of Jesus but just as a way to justify your bigotry and hatred. The Bible holds as much weight for me as the Koran, the Tora, the Vedas, etc .. NONE You freely admitted you use the bible to prove the Bible, an obvious logical fallacy. I know you're not very bright (this is proven by every post you make, you speak on religion, politics and science with an ignorance beyond the pale , because you willingly avoid any information that doesn't support your presupposed conclusions) . You are not someone that seeks truth, you're not even someone interested in attempting to understand the options of others. Therefore your opinion is equivalent to a flat earther, useless. -

SkyHigh replied to blackbird's topic in Religion & Politics
Because I wasn't, read the literature. Wasting my time with that is equivalent to arguing with a flat earther about gravity. Did you actually look at what experts say. Of course I can be wrong, that's what the scientific method is based on. new information produces new conclusions. Now as far as the old testament, it hasn't changed in millenia and the people that can read those languages are almost entirely in agreement on the fact that Genesis (that includes Noah) was written in a metaphorical style. Not giving you a specific book or author in no way diminishes my assertion, just read. -

Then why continue to pester me for my opinion when you could just go read what scholars say. Wikipedia will give you all you need, I checked the other day after our conversation, I just wanted to make sure that it was you that was more concerned about being argumentative than actually taking the time to look for yourself. And it was -

If you think Genesis is litteral then you are by necessity stating that evolution is false. You want a source? How about, ALL of science -

SkyHigh replied to blackbird's topic in Religion & Politics
It's irrelevant, look for yourself. I may be completely wrong but don't take my word either way , go and read what they write and not just websites like answers in geneisis or creation.com What I'm saying is not at all controversial, mostly because believing in evolution in NO WAY diminishes ones faith -

That's like asking me what literature I've read to know gravity is why things fall. It will be easy to find, hell (pun intended type Genesis creation story into Wikipedia or Google scholar, I'm sure you can get enough from the links they provide We're not even talking about just the clear scientific flaws but the literary aspects (style) is a of how the text was written. Conversely the Gospels WERE written as historical documents, again not my opinion that of those educated in the field -

I'm not arguing I agree and we don't need the supernatural to explain the natural world ie. science. Rational (which is the strong majority) religious people understand that and are able to separate the two because they tackle completely different issues. You on the other hand are not a rational person and talk out of both sides of your mouth. You deny the science that contradicts your version of one particular religion while accepting other science that in reality intercepts directly with what you claim is false. I'll add this just because I think it important. Many atheists and non believers (even putting aside other faiths because I'm speaking to someone who claims to follow Yahweh) still believe in the supernatural, so your argument isn't even specific to religion -

The writings of nearly every legitimate biblical scholar, it's not "my" opinion, it's the opinion of the experts in the field. -

SkyHigh replied to blackbird's topic in Religion & Politics
Exactly, now your getting in. Almost all biblical scholars regardless of religious beliefs consider Genesis to be metaphorical and not litteral, because science has demonstrated that none of what's written can be backed by any evidence. That also includes Noah, oh and same thing for Exodus since we're on the topic.
