  1. The questions are relevant. The GG is the head of state of Canada. Her allegiances should be unquestioned. Absolutely I would ask those questions of ANY GG nominee. Good enough answer for you on that one? Ted Morton has never advocated an independent Alberta. There are those who have. Anybody who has advocated the break up of any province from ANYWHERE in Canada should automatically be disqualified from the job. Sad thing is, that if Martin had performed the proper background check on her she wouldn't have been nominated.
  2. Lawrence Martin came up with the best reply to Jean's statement. "It doesn't address the rumour she supported the Yes side in the 1995 referendum. It doesn't address Mr. Lafond's alleged sympathies for the sovereigntist side. There are no denials of any of the above. Why not? If they are untrue, why not say so?" Succinct and perfectly stated. Tick tock Mr. Dithers, time is running out on you...
  3. shoop......please stick to debating the issues as our moderator has requested and keep the slurs to yourself. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmmm, not really a slur at all. Just illustrating how other people are behaving appropriately without resorting to your whining and threats of calling the moderator at every turn. But thanks for sticking ture to form.
  4. Brilliant. That was the first question I had when I saw that a Mark Emery legal defence fund had been started. Dude is a multi-millionaire. Appears to me that the whole circus about impingement on Canadian soveriegnty is a front to have suckers pay for a multi-millionaires legal bills.
  5. That's the beautiful part. Management has vowed to broadcast HNIC strike or no stike. So who cares when they settle?
  6. That's why the separatists and conservatives are uniting on this issue. It's not really self-destructive for the separatists at all to out Jean. True separatists sneer at the office of the GG. They don't care about it at all. So of course they are going to take the chance to expose Mr. Dithers for his vapid and desperate nomination in this situation. He is so desperate to improve his image in Quebec he approved the appintment with proper due diligence. Bad move for Canada Mr. Dithers. Please try and do better in the future.
  7. newbie, I was responding to Eureka's post that the unfair and biased people who had concerns with Jean's nomination who DIDN'T have relevant questions. The questions I asked were fair AND relevant. I don't, but it is a fair and relevant question. Why didn't she answer it in her statement today? Never referred to her as a "hard core" separatist. If you are going to be fair and unbiased best not to put words in other peoples mouth. One could argue that a person with separatist leanings would take the position of GG for a number of reasons. Here's a couple to start. 1. It pays well and has a ton of perks regardless of the office holder's political leanings. 2. What a better f**k you to Canada than to have the first official head of state of a sovereign Quebec be someone who formerly served as Governor General of Canada? Why make a statement at all then? What purpose are you truly serving if you are going to so readily blow of the people who have legitimate concerns about this appointment?
  8. Eureka, are you actually serious? You chastise blatant partisanship and appreciate balanced and fair expression BUT you say there isn't a shred of information or a relevant question? You really are being partisan and biased in saying there is nothing about this issue for Canadians to be concerned about. INFORMATION Jean is on film toasting independence in one of Lafond's documentaries. That is an undeniable fact. (Even the CBC showed it ) RELEVANT QUESTIONS Here are three for you. Was she toasting Quebec independence in that clip? Would she choose to support the best interests of Canada or a sovereign Quebec if her vice-regal duties required her to make a choice? Why didn't she directly confront the allegations levelled against her in the statement she released today?
  9. Mirror, you called me a dickhead. Do you forget? So shove the sanctimonious bull. It's not a matter of going after Jean for purely partisan reasons. Jean is a bad choice. When push comes to shove and she has to choose to defend Canada versus a sovereign Quebec there are serious doubts as to what she will choose to do. Canadians should never have questions about how their GG would react in that situation.
  10. Wow that is deluded. A "brilliant move"? Maybe a quarter of Liberal activists would agree with that assessment at this point. Outside that select circle nobody would agree with that at this point. Unless, Mr. Dithers wanted to look like he rushed the appointment, didn't conduct due diligence in order to lay a trap for the sovereigntists and conservatives that leaves 60% of the people questioning his choice. Wow you are right. It is a brilliant move. A trap so smoothly executed that the upside is apparent to nobody but Liberal true believers. Mr. Dithers I applaud you. I am in awe of your intellect and steadfastness once you have made a decision.
  11. Looks like this statement won't be enough. 60% of people on CTV answered no to the following question. "Michaelle Jean says she is proud to be Canadian and is 'fully committed to Canada.' Do you believe her?" Michaelle still has some 'xplainin to do.
  12. Thanks Sparhawk. mirror, probably not the last nail in the coffin for this issue. See how posting links provides for a fuller, more well-informed debate. Or is that something you wish to avoid?
  13. newbie shouldn't the sincerity of her statements be judged? or no matter what she said she automatically deserves a free pass at this point? The main page of CTV.ca had the following poll question. "Michaelle Jean says she is proud to be Canadian and is 'fully committed to Canada.' Do you believe her?" 60% of respondents answered no. Methinks the issue still has legs.
  14. f**k mirror post a freaking link to back up your statements .... please
  15. Have been. See how popular your thread on harper's "failed" bbq tour is? You and mirror trading jabs at the CPC. Wow, how cool. Why don't the two of you do everybody else here a favour and just arrange to meet somewhere for a circle jerk while you exude about how great your party is?????
  16. Uhhh no actually that would be Jean herself providing the dirt from Lafond's documentary. What country's independence was she toasting exactly? Best quote of the day has to go to Jim Brown from the Canadian Press. "But while she insisted “we have never belonged to a political party or the separatist movement,” she did not address accusations that she and Lafond once expressed support for the separatist cause." Where is the answer to that vital question Madame Jean?
  17. tolerance???? Aren't you the poster who slandered me (dickhead was the term you used wasn't it?) when I called Mad Mikey on his pomposity and whinging? Ohhh, I get it. You fall back on the stereotype for conservatives as intolerant but don't actually have to be tolerant yourself. Why don't you and THELIB just play your little attack Harper games on threads nobody cares about????
  18. Even the Toronto Star is calling on Jean to speak out and clear the air. EDITORIAL: Michaelle Jean must speak out. Woo hoo, PM Dithers slam dunk choice is blowing up in his face. Man he is a bad bad PM.
  19. Bravo sparhawk. Bravo. An intelligent, measured response that shows the U.S. we are serious without shooting ourselves in the foot. Too bad PM Dithers is apoplectic over the Michaelle Jean affair and incapable of action on the trade front.
  20. Stan, I appreciate your leanings and like another conservative voice on the forum. But please get a grip on macroeconomics. You come across as a NDipper in that last post for your clear lack of understanding of economics. A surplus deals with the revenues versus expenses in a given year. So yes, the Liberals have been running surpluses for quite a while recently. The debt is getting down slowly. Should be paid off a little more quickly, with a few more tax cuts thrown in to boot. The Liberals should present a more accurate surplus forecast for the fiscal year with an updat this fall. Unfortunately, PM Dithers is going to be absorbed with damage control throughout the fall over his hasty choice of Michaelle Jean as GG.
  21. So whadda ya think? When does Jean get the old heave how from Mr. Dithers?
  22. Do any of you feel upset PM Dithers would try and appoint a separatist as GG? Do any of you believe an adequate background check was performed? Do any of you believe that Martin is still sticking by her? PATHETIC
  23. It's pretty irrelevant at this point. Libs have been lowballing income for so long now the market incorporates that into their estimates and know what to expect. The current surplus is so much higher than expected in large part due to the surge in oil. Pretty interesting how PM Dithers thinks he is still fooling Canadians with his lowball estimates. Oh well, at least he has stepped into it big time over Michaelle Jean.
  24. I'll give Harper credit. For once he appears to be playing things shrewdly. Harper calls on Martin to clear the air about Jean. He is putting the pressue on Martin to defend the choice. Any Liberal attempts to call him a bigot will fall on deaf ears (or be preaching to the converted.) Beautiful timing how the release is issued the day of Hebert's scyhophantic column.
  25. That is the beauty of believing in conspiracy theories. Requires no proof. Don't believe in pollsters. Why? because... Don't beilieve in journalists. Why? because... Are you talking about "corporate honchos" with axes to grind in opinion polls? Again goes back to credibility. Say you have two national political opinion polls, one for CBC and one for CTV. With "corporate honchos" pushing agendas of the left and right respectively. Pretend it's an election, so it is reasonable for the CTV and CBC to conduct and/or release polls at the same time. If their polls reveal radically different results it would call into question the credibility of both pollsters automatically. Funny thing though, competing pollsters don't conference to make sure their results are the same. (Or do they? )
