To think you say this when quoting a story without unproven accusations of a five dollar payout to buy a couple blizzards from a couple kids no one has ever heard of. Even if it's true, the kids got a couple blizzards and five more dollars went to charity. I'll take Sheila Fraser's report over theft and misuse of millions of dollars by the Liberals any day... Any proof for this biased media? Wow, the fall the Liberals are in for is going to be that much harder than in 1984 because they are that much more arrogant this time around.

Hey, Martin is so dull and unimaginative he falls back onto what barely saved his ass last year. The appointment was totally a sign of incompetence. He has no agenda, no policies or no plans. He governs like an 8 year-old with ADD. He tricked Layton into supporting him in the spring and screwed him completely. Brilliant. Doubtful the support will last much longer.

I guess the difference between die-hard Liberal supporters and the majority of Canadians. A story of this kind should be newsworthy regardless of who is in power. There are questions about the extent to which a background check was done, the loyalty of the Queen's representative in Canada to the monarchy, whether or not the RCMP is meddling in political affairs, if this is another example of desperation and short-sightedness on the behalf of the Martinites.... If you don't think it's newsworthy don't read it. But there are so many potential stories here that the publicly funded broadcaster should at least be acknowledging it.

The Premiers are meeting in Alberta. Their meetings are now a 'Council of the Federation'. Whoever is the host of the meeting is the chair of the Council. So Klein presented the premiers' joint statement, as protocol dictates he should. I think Kinsella is right on this one. This story is going to have legs. How many commentators are reassessing their 'brilliaint' and 'inspired' assessments of Mr. Dithers choice at this point?
-
PM scolds Klein over controversy. Gotta like Martin's reaction. Sooooo typical. He gets into trouble and what does he do? Attack the boogeyman Ralph Klein. Uhhhh Mr. Dithers unless you consulted Ralph when making the decision you shouldn't be blaming him. Does anybody really think Dithers consulted Ralph Klein when making this decision?

Yet again the CBC is trying to bury the story. As of this post the story pops up on the first page of the CTV, Toronto Star and Globe and Mail web sites. CBC, no........ ps. For this isn't newsworthy jackasses get over yourselves. It is now!
-
Those stories are still newsworthy until discredited. So the CBC is the only news outlet that serves the vast majority of Canadians who don't fall into the category of "Quebec separatists, Bernard Lord, and a few anti-Martin agitators"?

Ohhh, what a freak. Didn't use any blanket accusation at all. So if you want to get into it, f*ckstick at least accurately respond to me. The competition induced by a free market society is in the best interest of our economy. (Government regulations are necessary, but this is the time-proven best economic model.) When operating effectively executives represent the best interests of the shareholders. Unions are a necessary counter-balance to the monopolistic urges of management. When operating effectively union leaders represent the best interests of their members. To modify a quote of John Kenneth Galbraith's - "The capacity of the businessman, and eureka, for self-delusion is infinite."
-
What eureka's got is the pompous self-righteous attitude of the Canadian Left. Coupled with the expected laziness. The pronouncement is so self-evident it requires no explanation or proof. Please explain how my analogy how a two sentence reply explains how my understanding is 'limited' and 'shallow'. I'll get into it if you want. Alas I am sure you will sit and throw barbs without providing anything in the way of real support or proof.

Honestly I don't understand this. What do you mean by "the difference between inherited and legacy"?
-
I consider that name to be insulting and therefore would request that if you must call me a dickhead you use Shoop Doggy Dickhead, as that is my real name. (Seriously though, you are asking me to show some respect to somebody else after calling me a dickhead?) The point about the utter lameness and hypocrisy of complaining about others whinging than crying over his name is valid though. Besides, Manic Mikey is the guy who referred to himself as an 'urban intellectual' but still won't answer if that means he works at Chapters or Starbucks.
-
I consider that name to be insulting and therefore would request that you do not use it. It is not my name. And Pierre Elliot Trudeau most certainly did not start the national debt in Canada - not even close. If you are obsessed about who created debt in the country, the Administration of Brian Mulroney (which was strongly supported in Alberta I might add) accounts for by far the largest share of the Canadian national debt. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What a whiney biotch you are Mikey. Unfreakinbelievable that you can be such a freak and refer to separatists as whingers. This is a message board screen. Names exist for a reason. Or is Mad_Michael the name on your birth certificate? A factually incorrect whiny biotch as well. Trudeau repeatedly admitted to driving the national to record levels. He never apologized for it or tried to downplay his role in creating the massive debt. Trudeau tried to argue that his, admittedly, expensive social programs were more important than the debt he was incurring. You would think that someone with a wealth of experience gained from 'earning a degree in political science' and '20 years of following Canadian politics' would have a clue what they are talking about.

The self-interest of unions is the interests of their members, ideally, or their leadership, in many cases. The self-interest of corporations is the interests of their shareholders, ideally, or their executives, in many cases. If the ideal is attained in either case it is in the public interest in BOTH cases. Unfortunately, the leadership of these organizations often equate their own self-interet as being in the self-interest of who they are supposed to help. Both are needed in our society. Neither are perfect.

Grewal Found Innocent Of Any Tape Wrongdoing
shoop replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't think calling Grewal a slimeball was over the top at all. My history of posts shows that I am a pretty strong supporter of the CPC, but Grewal is a TOTAL slimeball. Dhaliwal and Murphy were equally as sleazy over the whole event. If Liberal supporters on this board can't agree to that then they gotta get their heads outta their butts. That was a totally slimy and disgusting episode all around. Grewal needs to go. Keep him around until the next election, but no matter how it is done he does not run for the party again. -
The story is about much more than how she voted in the referendum. These allegations about the husband having a storage place for a gun stash built sound ridiculous. But what if they are true? Should the CBC have run with the gun stash part of the story? They have a valid argument for saying now. Should they have ignored the entire story for hours? Not really justified in the age of the 24-hour news cycle. Kinsella is 100% right with this quote. "But one thing's clear: this story is getting bigger every day."
-
Before Sheila Fraser it was the same thing. Wasn't it? PS. Black dog your silence on my questions is deafening. The 'shakes fist' thing was pretty cool. uh huh
-
Even if Harper gains seats, but still loses the election, he will step down. As much as he deserves a second chance, he owes it to the party to step down if he can't win in a second election as leader.
-
Touche. I guess they had to balance things out. Martin gets to slide on picking an alleged separatist to be GG as opposed to Harper buying a couple kids some blizzards out of pocket.
-
Why is it a non-story? Cause you say it is? Why isn't the possibility that the Queen's representative to the country may in fact favour the breakup of the country newsworthy? Ohhh I get it. It isn't newsworthy because it goes against the CBC's political agenda. Oh well, that's OK. It's not like the CBC is a publicly funded organization. Or is it?
-
So what should be the punishment for the editor who made the wrong editorial call on this one?
-
Hmmm, The environics poll is show the peaking of a trend. NO poll since this year has shown the Liberals getting 'close' to a majority. The best they have seen would be ten more seats. Five each in BC and Ontario. They aren't showing growth anywhere else. Quebec is still dead for them. The 'historic breakthrough' in the Prairies has been forgotten almost as quicky as the democratic reform agenda. No other outlets have run this $5 payment story. Funny how it can't be found on the National Post web site either... Could it be that Rabble, CBC and the Toronto Star are conspiring to support Stephen Harper.
-
So your defence of CBC's unprofessionalism and bias in this case is the schoolyard classic "He started it!" This 'editorial call' was unreasonable the moment they made it.
-
Finally the CBC posts the story. Only 14 hour time lag. Better late than never I guess....
-
You are one interesting cat. Continually attacking the right with support from Rabble, yet you read the National Post? Hmm in the last 18 months Harper successfully pulled of the merger, came close to winning a minority government in an election that started with talk of Paul Martin winning a record number of seats and came within one vote of defeating PM Dithers. Disastrous .... no! I think the environics poll shows that Harper's bbq tour has had a positive effect. Whether or not he can maintain the momentum come September when people start paying attention to politics again is another matter. Still no word from Mad Michael. I wonder if he is busy serving a double-soy milk-non fat latte.
-
Hmmm, Michael I'm a little confused. Over on the "Should Harper Be Replaced?" thread you said "Harper is making me homesick for Preston. Anyone who can make Preston look attractive to an urban intellectual from Toronto, really is a poor electoral choice." So does Harper make Preston look attractive to you or are they the 'same game'? You also didn't answer the earlier question. As a self-proclaimed "urban intellectual from Toronto" do you work at Chapters or Starbucks? Mirror, what is the source for your news story? Might help answer your question about the Environics poll being an outlier. (If that is indeed what you meant. Never heard the term rogue poll before...) You gotta understand how a story like that, which isn't in any mainstream news outlets I have been able to find, and a poster who uses stuff from rabble, makes you wonder about the source.
