Let's put nurses in charge of fixin' healthcare?
shoop replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Maybe I am missing something, but where is this whole the wealthy want the public to "mostly pay for" a system that will be out of reach of the poorer and middle-class segments of our society coming from? -
Mirror called me a whiner and told me to shut up AFTER Greg 'dealt with it'. Why are my manners out of order?
-
What? Let's take a look at the Davey comment. His comment epitomized a strategy of campaigning to win an election by winning seats East of the Manitoba-Ontario border. This included focusing the campaign themes, advertising money and time spent campaigning anywhere but the west. How was it only a "little bit" of the west? Of the 80 seats contested west of the Manitoba Ontario border (including both in the NWT) the Liberals won two. Great result for a NATIONAL party???? This balanced caucus lead to the most blatant SCREWING of the West in modern times i.e. the National Energy Program. How is the interpretation garbage? Mirror has called me a dickhead, a whiner and told me to shut up, yet I am the one who needs to lay off the verbal assaults?

There should be debate (parliamentary reveiw perhaps?) for ALL high level nominees. This particular nomination was rushed and the process flawed. It is clear that Martin picked her on a whim. For that reason the nomination should never have happened and it illustrates the need to change the process.

Hmmm, what is more relevant news? Chantal Hebert praising Harper in the Toronto Star OR some no name other from Canada Free Press.com? It's a no-brainer .... unless you are a bush league troll Thankfully the Star has a bit bigger readership.

Trolling is best done near water, is it not? -
Woo hoo, isn't this cool. Taking the trolling to a new level by picking on typos. Thankfully you probably are probably going to be banned.
-
Thanks LC. btw, too bad you didn't send this to Alanis Morrisette years ago.
-
You sir are right. I apologize for calling you a dickhead, a whiner and telling you to shut up. Oh wait, that's what you did and called me. btw can you please explain to me the apparent contradiction in the following two quotes? Did your opinion change in the 48 minutes between your posts? Did you uncover new information in that time? Or where you just trolling?

Wow, thanks for that Mirror. It was good having you around, but you have gone too far. This will definitely get you barred. (I hope.)

Enough of the sanctimonious harping and time for a history lesson. The line "screw the west we'll win the rest" is an infamous quote from the 1980 Canadian Federal Election. Former Liberal Senator Keith Davey was caught using the line. (Can't remember exaclty how he was "caught".) Regardless, any person with a true interest in Canadian politics should at least have a passing familiarity with the quote. Mirror your bush league trolling really is quite annoying.

I totally remember that too. Strange how these things work. Don't think that breakthrough in the prairies is even on the radar anymore. Back to the good old days of "Screw the West we'll win the rest." Except Quebec I guess....

Hebert's latest column. In her view Hebert's view Harper played the GG controversy pretty well. "Harper has been criticized in the past for failing to project beyond his narrow base, most recently last June when he questioned the legitimacy of the same-sex marriage law because it was passed with the support of the Bloc Québécois. In this case, though, he has shown himself to be well up to the task of making the measured judgment calls that Canada is entitled to expect of mature national leaders."

Not even close pal. This is a legitimate thread. Andrew Coyne is a respected journalist who offers a very frank assessment of his problems with Jean's nomination. Comparing me to the Liberal is insulting and disrespectful. Pretty hypocritical for a guy who is threatening to run to the moderator upon seeing anything he doesn't like. Please stay on topic. If you have any further personal attacks send me a pm or an email to Greg will ensue. Oh wait, you were the guy who called me a dickhead, weren't you?

The Canadian Dollar a Petro-currency

That was the essence of the National Energy Program. Amazing how utterly ridiculous it looks in hindsight... -
Eureka, I honestly didn't understand Bakunin's post. Could you paraphrase what you thought was 'good' from it please? Seriously, I understand the points you make -even if I don't always agree with them. thanks

From Andrew Coyne's web site. www.andrewcoyne.com Coyne's best quotes from this piece. "She has no record of service to the country, no outstanding accomplishments to her name, no specialized knowledge of law, politics or the constitution. In a crisis, what credibility would she have?" "This isn't a sales clerk we're hiring. This is supposed to be the position of supreme honour and prestige in the country, one with important symbolic and substantive roles." As this thing drags out it comes down to that one simple question. In a crisis, what credibility would she have?" Think of this nomination what you will, but a tersely-worded three paragraph response to this allegations does not help build her credibility.

Let's put nurses in charge of fixin' healthcare?

The Supreme Court of Canada has recently ruled that wait times, in Quebec at least, are unreasonably long for some procedures. (The stay on the decision doesn't reflect upon the decision itself, merely reflects that the Government of Quebec is trying to rectify the situation and they have been given a year to do so.) Are you both say that the Supreme Court of Canada AND the Canadian Medical Association are wrong in this case? -
What does "signed nothing" have to do with anything in this case? There is the documented evidence of Jean toasting 'independence' in the Lafond documentary. To which country's independence was she toasting? Still a very legitimate question at this point.

NDP should focus entirely on the Liberals
shoop replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yaaaaaaaaawn. More empty rhetoric. What the hell is the States gonna do when we stand up to them? Laugh, probly..... Behaving maturely and professionally isn't cowardly it is the proper way to get things done. -

Finally THELIBERAL has been banned. Does the banning include his IP or just his screen name. Time will tell soon enough... -

Typical mixed bag from Mirror. Inflammatory headline with a somewhat thoughful post. Nurses have a valuable role to play. The move towards Nurse Practitioners is a good one. http://www.unbc.ca/nursing/practitioner.html Mirror - care to explain why the MDs are being 'absurd' in tyring to find a solution for patients who cannot get necessary medical care in a timely fashion? -
If you want to do a reality check let's use the SES Research poll you trumpet so proudly with your signature. Correlating the results from that poll to the actual vote in 2004 you would have the following results regionally. Atlantic provinces. The Liberals are down 2 points. Translates into one seat lost for the Liberals. Picked up by the NDs. Quebec. Liberals are almost exactly where they were in the last election. (0.1% difference.) Break even. Ontario. Same as Quebec, Liberals are almost exactly where they were in the last election. (0.3% difference.) Break even. Prairies. Liberals still mired in the muck. Definitely lose Kilgour's seat in Edmonton Beaumont (never a Liberal riding in the first place.) Let's be charitable and say the Liberals pick up a seat in Saskatchewan. Break even. North. Liberals hold their three seats. BC. An actual opportunity for Liberal pickups. They pick up four seats, the CPC retakes Cadman's seat. Results after 2005 election. Liberals - 138 seats CPC - 96 seats. BQ - 54 seats. ND - 20 seats. Result PM Dithers and Harper are both toast. This is The Best Case Scenario for PM Dithers assuming he gets exonerated by Gomery, the economy can withstand the oil price rise and the Michaelle Jean fiasco doesn't have legs. Poor poor PM Dithers. When you have no room for growth you can only stagnate or go down. Far too many things can go badly for the Liberals at this point.
-
Even the normally docile sheep, i.e. Liberal MPs, are starting to question PM Dithers on the Jean affair. Grit blames 'trouble' on PMO staff. The MP in question, Roger Gallaway (Sarnia-Lambton) is what should be a Liberal stronghold. If he is talking heat over the issue, how many Liberal MPs in the 905 are shaking in their boots right now?
-
Bravo. Therein lies the rub. Because Mr. Dithers checked off the right boxes with this appointment: telegenic, female, Quebecois, immigrant, CBC 'personality', he felt it unnecessary to necessarily search for skeletons in the closet. Reinforces the well-deserved stereotype that he has surrounded himself with a bunch of rank amateurs for advisors. The strange thing is that he really has hurt himself with this nomination. It won't win him support in Quebec. It will drive a lot of reluctant Liberals (unhappy with the party but still support them because of questions about the CPCs social stances) to vote Conservative. Thanks for the help PM Dithers!
