  1. Why would it be slander? Do you have a problem with gay people? There is nothing wrong with saying something if it is true. Graham's preference is well known on the Hill. Cheryl Gallant yelling "f*ggot" in the House during the Martin Government was classless without a doubt. But nobody ever questioned the veracity of her heckle.
  2. He never said *all* elected Quebec MPs would make it into cabinet. People would have flipped out every where else in the county if he had said that. For good reason too. 4 out of 10 is pretty good for the province though.
  3. No it doesn't. Not even close. Quebec will have a bigger voice in the Canadian delegation but they will be no where near a separate entity at UNESCO. Your hatred for Harper is vile. Did I have issues with Martin, yes. The Liberals in general, not as many. Did it ever reach your level of hatred and misstatement? No. Your lies and blatant mischaracterization goes too far. Criticizing policy is fine. But characterizing the UNESCO dealind as "selling out Canada". wtf? A shade too much hyperbole with that one.
  4. It definitely won't happen before the next election. Maybe, *IF*, the CPC wins a majority next time around they will look at the constitution. You gotta wonder if Dumont is going to jump to the Conservatives. It would be quite the coup for Harper.
  5. Come on. Hillary a lesbian? Puh lease. There is enough stuff that is actually true about her that you don't have to go making stuff up. Could be interesting maybe a Hillary-Barak Obama ticket versus McCain would be a hell of a battle.
  6. That's a pretty weird and random example. How exactly would lying about your sexsual orientation going to help anybody? What kind of person would think along those lines?
  7. Thank you for your confidence. UNESCO really isn't that big a deal. The Harper haters, come on up Normie Chateau, are the only people outside Quebec who are at all concerned about this. (It was Normie who started a thread on UNESCO and called it "Harper sells out Canada for his own political life?") Could anybody remotely unbiased actually call this move selling Canada out??? You are correct, this was throwing Quebec a political bone. A seat at the UNESCO table will appeal to some Quebecois. This moves us one step closer to accomplishing the goal of proving the CPC is not hostile to Quebec. I think the Conservatives could make a *very* big move in Quebec in 2007. People are pretty much done with the Bloc. Five straight Federal elections of the bloc winning the majority of Quebec seats in the house and just maybe the electorate is thinking it would be nice to back a winner in a big way. Big gains in Quebec (20+ seats), coupled with very most gains elsewhere in the country and Harper has his majority. Remember the budget went over *VERY* well in Quebec.
  8. The next election will *not* be successful for the Liberals if all they can run on is *scary* *scary* *scary* again. Harper will have had a good 1 to 2 year record as PM by the time the next election rolls around. Anybody arguing about what he did *before* becoming PM will be ignored, or merely preaching to the converted.
  9. Well, the very clear distinction you drew wouldn't necessarily have been drawn in this case by the public or the courts. I hope you don't end up with some big legal bills for not making that distinction. Simply asking him not to identify where he works with the book wasn't outrageous.
  10. Regardless of what they say or believe? Without prior approval from you? Sure is easy to be utterly principled online. Who would pay the legal bills if this unapproved giving of opinions came back to get you in some hotwater?
  11. For example, I thought talking about SSM early in the campaign as he did was a huge tactical blunder. Goes to show how much I know, and why I'm not running CPC national campaigns ..... yet.
  12. That if you are arguing this scentist has the right to promote their ideas using their work title and employer, you should surely stand up for that same right. You aren't afraid your employer would take offence, are you?
  13. That's a pretty big *might* normie. After 22 years of undoubtedly unprincipled leadership, dating back to Turner, why would the Liberals go for principles all of a sudden?
  14. Thanks again Normie. I really don't think the CPC is going to stress over a poll this early in the game. Harper has proven that he is good at thinking through the long-term. He is making the right moves to strengthen the base that appealed to him in January and build on his strength in Quebec. If he can pick up another 20 seats there. 3 to 5 in the Maritimes and 10 or so West of Quebec than he will be in a comfortable majority. Seems very plausible at this point in time. Besides, the Liberal a day joining the leadership race has given them a lot of ink.
  15. Hmmm, of the 29 targeted tax cuts let's look at the "special interest groups" that were pandered to. Transit riders; Students; Tradespeople; Seniors; Parents of children under the age of six; Anyone who pays the GST. What a terrible, terrible man Harper was for pandering to such groups.
  16. Thank you. Seems better than the choice Canadians rejected on January 23rd, i.e. Paul Martin. Shrewd, no. Principled no. While PM Harper's principles are a matter of debate. Only people such as yourself, who admittedly ABHOR Harper, are calling his principles into question. Chretien's and Martin's were unarguably lacking. ADSCAM!
  17. That happens with every government, in every democracy in the world Normie. It would be very strange inded for a Prime Minister to expect all of his supporters to approve of every single action they took. Look at the dithering Government we had from Paul Martin when he tried to govern in that manner. Canadians wanted a change on January 23rd and they got it. Do I agree with every choice Stephen Harper has made as leader of the CPC? No. Do I now trust in his political acumen and understand there is a reason he has become Prime Minister? Yes.
  18. You would celebrate if these results held through to the next election? These numbers would lead to a slightly bigger CPC minority. Have you changed your mind about our Government?
  19. This poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.1%. If you look at the election results, the first Strategic Council poll and the second one they all lie within that margin of error. People want to take some time to get to know their new Government. No reason for panic because of these results. We all saw the chaotic and ruderless direction that the Martin government provided us as a result of being too poll-driven.
  20. Seems like Harper's shrewdness as a politician is shining through. Harper is taking a different approach to strengthening the Federation. The UNESCO deal is good for all Canadians. As is the possibility of other provinces, even PEI, being given mor eof a voice in areas that they have a special interest in.
  21. Interesting stat in that poll was 56% of respondents thought it was a good budget. This is a good, but not great, poll for the CPC. Once people have actually had the time to digest the influence of the budget measures opinions can only go up.
  22. So we are all agreed that the UNESCO thing wasn't *selling out* Canada? Please refrain from highjacking threads when you are posting the exact same information on other threads Normie.
  23. I'm hearing you don't have the link to the actual promise. You still haven't proven that *anyone* in the party talked about Harper breaking a promise, all you provided was a link of things from Garth's Web site that weren't in the budget. You would be a little more credible if you provided a little fact to back up your assumptions and didn't ignore the facts others provide. Your silence on the capital gains exemption for fishers is deafening. You only provided one URL were are the other ones that created the *numerous* URLs you found?
  24. That one is kinda fun. We all approach things from different perspectives so you defiinition of "what things are" won't necessarily mesh with other people's perspective. This is a pretty weak question. People are viewing Mulroney and Harper differently for a two big reasons. 1. What Harper offered Quebec is substantially different than what Mulroney offered Quebec. 2. A number of things including: Meech Lake, Charlottetown, the second referendum, clarity act have all interceded since Mulroney first took office. The situation has changed as a result. What you did say is: Kinda seems to me like you were at least alluding to the rise of another right wing party. Far, far from giving up on Ontario. The unpopular Liberal Premier of the province is picking a fight with him. How is that giving up on Ontario? The GST cut, and many of the other 28 tax cuts are directed with Ontarians in mind. Harper was at the event that started this thread to help John Tory get elected. A strong PC party of Ontario will only help the CPCs fortunes in the Province. Harper has not given up on Ontario at all. Don't fall for McGuinty's baloney.
