  1. Hopefully, now that the government of Canada is not being run from Quebec, we can start down the road to consigning Official Bilingualism to the scrapheap of history, where it belongs. The future of this country is in English, its past is in French.
  2. "They took a wealth of pictures during the raid, including pictures of the OPP snipers putting their hands up to show that they aren't touching their weapon (It does look like a surrender, but that would be wishful thinking). " I don't understand why you'd want our law enforcement officials surrendering to criminals? I think it should be the other way around.
  3. "Iraq settled pretty much" In what parallel universe is Iraq "settled pretty much". This will come as a great surprise to the twenty or so innocent civilians being killed or maimed every day by an insurgency that was allowed to happen by the incompetent planners of this bungled war. By not securing huge stores of ammunition, and by not securing the borders prior to their hardly surprising military victory, the U.S. is criminally responsible for these deaths, and for the horrible situation on the ground in "settled" Iraq.
  4. "Where is the freedom of speech here to let people make up their own minds as to what happened?" People don't "decide what happened" in relation to a historical event. Try suggesting that regarding the Holocaust, and see where you get. The only disputing of this event comes from the Turks and their paid or browbeaten hacks. History is not something we vote on.
  5. "We need some law in this country, at least limiting the terms on when an abortion can happen. Currently, a woman can ask her doctor to kill the kid during labour until the child's head is out. Something must not fly with even the most left leaning people when they know this." As far as I'm concerned, you should be able to kill it unless it's graduated University. That said, we don't have a law, things seem to be going ok unless you're in the "Bleeding for the unborn" crowd, so obviously no law is required. I kind of hope the idea that we don't need laws to govern every single aspect of our behaviour might just catch on.
  6. "What do you see as a fair concession to keep Quebec in Canada?" The banning of a political party bent on destroying the country would be a good start. Unlike many, I was immensely disappointed that Pierre Trudeau did not go far enough with the War Measures Act. I would have had no problem with seeing Levesque frog-marched to the gallows for treason. If the price of keeping Canada together is giving all the power to Quebec, it's not worth it. Let the wailing begin.
  7. Getting back to the actual occupation, why is it that no one from the OPP has come forward to explain how they made such a mess of the initial raid? I'll be asking my Provincial representative to make sure heads roll for that disaster. I'll also be curious as to why the Army wasn't immediately called ou to deal with an attack on our law enforcement personnel. The next time I get a speeding ticket, I'll simply beat the officer to death and claim I'm one of the "native people".
  8. It never ceases to amaze me how a government can deceive its electorate and get away with it. This is by no means an American monopoly (see Canada and Liberal Party, the), but I don't understand how a country where they scream blue murder if you try to infringe on their constitutonally-guaranteed right to bear arms can have a 2/3 agreement with a President who violates their constitutonally guaranteed right against illegal search and seizure, just because he says its to "protect us from terrorism". The Pretender-in-Chief has persuaded his people they're at war, so he can't be criticized, and he's slowly destroying their freedoms in the name of his phony, endless war. History may judge Bush as one of the worst Presidents of all time, but the man sure can sell snake oil.
  9. "It's true that Truman didn't come from great beginnings either, but being a successful small businessman and country administrator turned out to be adequte preparation for the Senate and the presidency." Compare that to Bush's extraordinary record of business failure (despite his "MBA") and you get a good idea of the reason he's in over his head.
  10. Thinking about what's been said, I might discount McCain for the same reasons you gave for Giuliani - too centrist to win the nomination. Unfortunately for him, the very things which make him a bankable presidential candidate might doom him in the nomination process. I think Frist might be the dark horse here, although he's going to have a tough time winning over the Kristian Krazies Klub, given his stance on stem cell research.
  11. Posts like this are why many Americans can't stand Canadians anymore. Can someone remind me what Canada/Canadians have done to make them think that are superior to USA/Americans? hahaha ..... Are you kidding? This is the country that elects Liberals time after time, knowing they're going to screw us and steal our money and give it all to Quebec. Nobody said anything about being superior. I've always admired parts of the U.S. system, just as I think parts of ours are superior. Don't read into the thread what's not there.
  12. The Vatican's hardly been "quiet" about it. They set up a website specifically to counter the claims made by this work of fiction, and now one of their Cardinals is saying they should sue the producers of the movie. As Shakespeare (and Mary Tyler Moore) said: "Methinks thou dost protest too much."
  13. Despite overwhelming evidence, and a growing movement within their own intellectual community, the Turks still refuse to acknowledge the reality of the Armenian genocide (read Robert Fisk's "The Great War for Civilization" for an excellent account), and still attempt to punish anyone who does acknowledge it. This is the same game the Chinese play with the Tiananmin Massacre, except that China gets away with it because the West wants access to their markets. The U.S. has gutlessly allowed the Turks to influence them on this issue for years, but it's nice to see Canada (and, in a rare display of integrity, France!?!?) stand up and be counted for once.
  14. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Don't know that Obama has paid his dues enough for a VP slot, or that he'd be willing to leave before the end of his first senate term, but it would be an interesting choice. Maybe against McCain/Rice? Rice has a lot of currency being the world's only black republican.
  15. Well, if you're a poor woman in 2009 who wants an abortion, there's a great deal of difference.
