  1. ...besides SES Research of course. ... and SES just came out with its newest poll. CPC 38% LPC 28% NDP 19% BQ 9% Green 7% With the CPC leading in every region, except Quebec. The party is only two points behind the BQ in Quebec. Things are looking very good...
  2. It's not really an issue of holding onto her riding. It would have to be a Mulroney-esque win in the next election for that riding to be in danger. The question is simple. Why should she stick around? There is a very good chance that the Conservatives will win the next election. A majority even. Which means 2011 as the next most likely time for Stronach to be anything but in opposition. Then what? Is five years as Transportation critic really worth the wait when she could return to the private sector for big bucks?
  3. Appears that Rae has confirmed part of the story. Here's a quote (yes from Kinsella's blog)...
  4. The Commissioner of Official Languages really said this? Imagine the outrage if a Conservative MP had said it. Is Ms. Adams avaialable to speak about Madame Justice's exercise of power?
  5. You appear to be as self-deluded as Belinda Stronach. Is your arm hurting from patting yourself on the back? Please change your signature. If you are going to use such a puerile signature at least realize that the Government has to represent the *in-crowd*. Your words...
  6. Rae is sad, sad, sad for making that comparison. To answer gc1765, I don't think the session in question was open to the media. Does that make the quote any less offensive?
  7. Bob Rae compared the recently signed softwood lumber agreement to the Munich Pact? So much for the re-birth of the Liberal Party of Canada. Classless, classless, classless. This is embarrassing. The best confirmation of (and response to) this statement comes from Warren Kinsella's blog. www.warrenkinsella.com/musings.htm
  8. I made it through about half the film. As the old saying goes "you gotta consider the source". Whenever I go to a Web site with links to Ayn Rand books I know where they are coming from and realize that I'm probably not going to agree with them. To each their own though...
  9. Yeah. Got's to remember. A lot of times people for groups such as this are retired and have a LOT of time on their hands...
  10. Gotta say a never was. Minister of HRSDC is a pretty low level appointment, especially for someone with no juice in the party. Minister Finley has a lot more clout in that role thanks to her roots in the party and hubby. Does anybody really, truly believe Stronach is going to run again? I can see her definitley *not* running again. The reason given will be about giving Martha Hall Findlay a place in the party
  11. That's some funny stuff. Harper is showing to have much more of a sense of humour than I thought.
  12. I don't think he said that. It was too much of a conflict with the rest of his message. It definitely looked like double-digits for Quebec MPs was possible. That's the funny thing about people's memories and why eye witness testimony is the least reliable form of testimony. Regardless, let's look at the facts. Nobody is making an issue of this phantom promise. Do you think if people really took it seriously in Quebec *if it happened* that Harper would be experiencing the strong support there that he is?
  13. Wasn't it Munson who tried to start the wave when the Liberals fell? Talk about a guy fighting for respect of the House of Commons. The article is definitely adds to the case for changing the Senate. Abolition or reform is up for discussion. The status quo is an embarrassment.
  14. Odd, how Martin campaigned to remove the one remaining check on the Court's potential misuse of the Charter, i.e. the Notwithstanding clause. Yet another reason it's a good thing the Conservatives won in January.
  15. Polls matter for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is media reaction and response to poll numbers. Right now the trend to commentators reaction to the Government has been good job so far, but wait for that mistake. If we can get through the summer and start strong in the fall it is very likely that it could become a given in Ottawa that the 2007 election will lead to a Conservative majority. If we can only pick up a few more points in the polls....
  16. There are a lot of other people this would apply to. Just because the Senate is old and lazy, that doesn't meant you can't have meaningful reform. The Senate has the constitutional power to be a very effective counter-balance to the House of Commons. The majority of people don't know that, or don't expect it because the Senate has never really done anything.
  17. But the Liberals did that for *thirteen years* running Governemnt. Spent their first four blaming the PCs for every issue they faced. In the 1997, 2000, 2004 and 2006 they ran with scary, scary, scary. Finally quit working in January. But it's getting old after *10 weeks* of Conservative Government? Wow, gotta love the hypocrisy.
  18. That is the way it is played with domestic politics. But there is a substantive difference. Harper didn't complain to the media about McGuinty's campaigning. McGuinty did. McGuinty was just trying to start a fight and Harper didn't take the bait. This Vellacott thing may turn out to be a mixed bag. At least it will take the wind out of Dalton's whining for a while...
  19. McGuinty definitely campaigned for the Libs in January. Regardless, this is all fury about nothing. If McGuinty would have stuck with what he said after his meeting with Harper none of this would have happened. Now we are in an interesting situation. McGuinty tried to start a verbal war with Harper and the Prime Minister didn't take the bait.
  20. The Raymond Chretien and Parrish incidents were far, far worse than what Harper did. What did Harper say that was so offensive? He introduced John Tory? But didn't McGuinty campaign for the Federal Liberals in January? Quid pro quo Clarice. Quid pro quo.... There is a big difference between being involved in politics *in your own country* and meddling in the domestic politics of another country.
  21. Fair enough, to an extent. I still think there are valid reasons to take issue with politicians having an affair. If it leads to deception it could make them susceptible to blackmail, etc. I don't know if I believe the rumour about the 15 y.o. prostitue. But if it is true that should definitely be an issue, regardless of the gender of said prostitute.
