  1. you can fix that problem without scrapping FPTP see America you are just making FPTP a scapegoat for governance issues it has nothing to do with PR wouldn't fix that problem either, it would just exacerbate it you are essentially blaming FPTP for all the problems with the current system then act like PR somehow fixes all those problems while having zero proof of either being the case let alone both then you act like anyone who disagrees with you supports maintaining all the problems of the status quo the only reason all the problems aren't solved is PR wasn't tried yet and we can't know that isn't the case until we try it your case for PR is circular garbage no wonder you can't sell it even Canadians aren't dumb enough to buy it
  2. only way to restore what was lost is by war against countries who combined have twice the population of Russia itself that's revanchism over 9000 and you try and justify it by pining for and applauding the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and Pierre Trudeau to make Putin seem reasonable pathetic
  3. Putin is a revanchist he wants Russia restored to it's Soviet borders plus Soviet buffers that includes all of the Ukraine and a lot more Zelensky won't accept that and neither will a lot of other leaders in Europe Putin is not going to stop with nibbling off a little more of Ukraine he has many more gaps in Russia's defenses that need to be filled
  4. there is a fair and open competition under FPTP the idea that only PR allows that is false the Canadian Overton Window is so narrow because the electorate only finds a narrow range of views acceptable that wouldn't change under PR there would be more brands offering the same product that is all any brands offering a different product would fail and have next to no say in governance
  5. God given right to self defense a smart and prepared bunch Canadians are the naive and unprepared bunch who think law abiding citizens shouldn't have the option to defend themselves from criminals because guns are bad m'kay Canadians think the inanimate object is more of a problem than the criminals full on insanity
  6. that has nothing to do with it like protecting people's God given rights instead of infringing on them
  7. what does any of that have to do with PR? non-sequitur you'd be hard pressed to.find someone who dislikes the status quo more than me but PR will just entrench that further and make actual change even more difficult if you want to change the status quo get rid of Confederation not FPTP
  8. it has been seen FPTP doesn’t prevent anyone from voting for alternatives if they were going to vote for alternatives they'd already be doing it they don't because they don't want alternatives
  9. we already found out you're just in denial about it you refuse to believe Canadians want the status quo just because you don't and you then project those views on Canadians FPTP is not why they are making their choices you just want that to be the case so that there is an easy fix but there isn't the sooner you get your head out of the sand and stop denying the obvious reality the better
  10. the same reason they don't vote for any real alternatives now Canadians don't want real alternatives they are happy with the status quo they like dull and dusty not cool, modern and exciting you are projecting on the electorate they don't think like you do you expect Canadians to react as you would to PR which is ridiculous are you really so oblivious as to think your political views are shared by most Canadians? get real, bro
  11. the twins will play their game in a proportional system the Conservatives will win even less often and when they do, they'll be bigger cucks than ever the left doesn't need the right to form a coalition the right needs the left to form a coalition if you want Canadian governance even further to the left PR will do that FPTP isn't even a small part of the problem PR will not wake up the electorate it has never woken up any electorate ever total pipe dream wishful thinking is a helluva drug
  12. changing the system will not change the parties or the electorate wishful thinking is a helluva drug FPTP is not the problem
  13. there is plenty of reason to be proud of it
  14. there are minority governments all the time we have one now did it hold the Liberals accountable for stripping Canadians of their rights? no, it cheered them on the problem is Canada not FPTP
  15. Germany is a classic example of the lameness of coalitions as is Israel FPTP is better
  16. PR has no such mechanisms to keep governments on it's toes it doesn't address any of the problems you are talking about at all the problem isn't FPTP as America and Britain clearly demonstrates by your own admission the problem is Canada
  17. America problems have nothing to do with the second amendment their problems are in spite of it, not because of it they have plenty of reasons to be proud of it
  18. coalitions don't work well and when the coalitions will just be between parties that are virtually identical that is even more the case the problem isn't the system it's the electorate
  19. some opinions are better than others and mine is better than most Canadians how popular my opinion is with Canadians isn't relevant I'm right and they are wrong
  20. it's not protecting them just appeasing them and that's not a good thing in this case democracy is overrated especially when electorate is as dumb as Canadians are
  21. argument ad populum just because something is popular doesn't make it wise Canadian gun policy is a prime example of this phenomenon the majority don't find it idiotic because they're idiots who applaud idiocy them being the majority doesn't make them knowledgeable about guns
  22. targeting specific objects doesn't solve the problem history can say, no need to see the future, every time they try it it fails every time it fails, Canadians clamor for similar restrictions that already failed then act incredulous when it fails again they always think it didn't work because their wasn't enough gun control it doesn't get any less informed than that on an issue Canadians don't know anything about guns but think they know the best gun policies but it turns out that people who nothing about guns actually propose idiotic gun policies, who knew?
  23. the Liberals didn't try they had a majority they could have passed PR they didn't, because they never intended to I don't think PR is what's best for the country though it will fix nothing and undermines regional representation PR just let's the party choose the representative instead of the people it's a half baked voting system propped up in people's minds by a grass is always greener on the other side effect
  24. why would the Conservatives run on something that is going to reduce their political power and increase the political power of their competitors? it makes no sense at all, they aren't THAT stupid both the Liberals and Conservatives benefit from FPTP they aren't going to pass it, even if they run on it because they are well aware of that
