  1. What good does making the team an even longer shot do? None.
  2. Making a mistake with a player of Marner's caliber, just because you hate his daddy, is an emotional over-reaction. If Rantanen won't cave, I advise the Avs to cave to him. Mikko Rantanen's do not grow on trees, pay that man his money, Teddy KGB knows. It would be nice if the Avs can lowball Mikko and get away with it, but if they can't, I'm not going to get mad at him and tell him to go f*ck himself, and demand he sit for a year. That would just be silly.
  3. Super wingers are not a dime a dozen though. He's more replaceable than Matthews, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't cave to him, just because he ain't a center. You won't hear me idiotically taking the position that the Avs should let Rantanen sit if he won't cave, nope, pay that man his money, Teddy KGB knows.
  4. The Leafs should totally cave, unless he'll take three or six, but if he won't, letting him sit is dumb. Marner and Matthews are the most important players on team when it comes to winning a cup, who aren't named Freddie Andersen. You caved to Matthews and he can't seem to stay healthy and is more prone to want to leave Toronto than Marner being an American from the Southwest as opposed to a hometown kid, so why not cave to Marner? Play moneypuck with everyone else, not caving to Marner, if it's the only option, is just being cheap as f*ck.
  5. Mediocre teams on paper don't usually win the cup, they are outliers, even in the salary cap era. If you want your team to get hot at the right time, those chances get a lot worse without Marner than with him. You could still theoretically win without him, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't get paid. Pay him. Pay that man his money.
  6. Marner's playoff numbers are pretty good, he had one down year. It is a mistake, it's a Steelers not caving to Le'Veon Bell level mistake. Just pay the man, without the firepower the Leafs don't win, with or without a hot Anderson.
  7. Then shouldn't have caved on Nylander, just because they made a mistake on Nylander doesn't mean they should make a mistake on Marner. Some players you have to cave to, that's just the way she goes. Gotta cave to the Matthews, Tavares and Marner's of the team, or you aren't going to win. It's too late to hold the ground on Nylander, but that doesn't mean they should pretend Marner is Nylander, because he's not.
  8. Treating Marner like he's Nylander is a mistake. Don't be like the Steelers and let Le'Veon Bell sit out, that's another year of the Tavares window squandered.
  9. Sell two years of UFA, to make it more likely that Rantanen will sell UFA years. *crosses fingers*
  10. Marner is waiting on them too, they are likely to get overpaid and then Marner can use them as comparable, it's a game of chicken.
  11. I hope Marner signs after Rantanen, if Marner signs first, that will likely increase the price tag.
  12. $12.5 million is very matchable, go big or go home.
  13. Sakic got the league running scared when a ton of the Avs core could be offer sheeted in the not too distant future, diabolical.
  14. Avs got a lot more depth and sandpaper this year, which was their downfall against the Sharks. Just two years ago they were coming off the worst record in the salary cap era, and now they are legit cup contenders, it's remarkable really. God Bless Joe Sakic.
  15. Korshkov on the first line? Late Bloom City.
  16. Burakovsky signs for 1 year at $3.25 million
  17. Only Ovechkin has a better shot than Laine of the guys you name, and no defensemen have a better shot than him that's laughable, and so is the claim that Galchenyuk has a better shot than him. Ovechkin, Laine and Matthews have the best shots in the NHL. He really is a top 3 shooter, your hot take silliness doesn't change that. D's with a better shot than Laine, lulz, that's a good one.
  18. Laine has a top 3 shot in the NHL, he lacks the toughness and grit of Ovechkin, but he can score for anywhere. Ovechkin is the greatest goal scorer of all time, so saying he isn't as good as Ovechkin at it is hardly a slight of any kind.
  19. Like he's going to put up 40 goals a year on the regular, last year screams career low to me. 40 goal players don't grow on trees, his shot is elite as f*ck.
  20. He's closest thing to Ovechkin since Ovechkin, if you don't want to overpay, you ain't going to get him.
  21. I can't see why they wouldn't, if they didn't, that would be a really stupid decision. $11 million ain't going to get the job done.
  22. Yup, but go big or go home, if they ain't offering 12 million plus, don't bother.
  23. Maurice's shelf life in Winnipeg may be coming to an end. Jets aren't going to side with Maurice over Laine, and if they did, that would be really dumb. Byfuglien and Wheeler's shelf life diminishes by the day, they ain't getting any younger, getting rid of all the talent around them aside from Sheifele is one sure fire way to ensure the Jets contention window closes real quick. Just fire Maurice, that's the best move.
