Depends on the winger. Point per game wingers are not a dime a dozen, and moneyballing their replacements is harder than you think. Three players is three roster spots, and the Leafs already have cheap wingers in the top six who can put up 45 points, so losing Marner can't actually be replaced all that easily. There are only four winger spots in the top six, and you have other wingers already taking up those spots who 45 point wingers won't be an upgrade on. Adding two 45 point wingers to the top six does not replace Marner, and you don't have enough top six roster spots for three extra 45 point wingers to fill. It ain't as inefficient as you make out to be when you have a legit top 20 scorer in the NHL on the wing. Not all wingers are created equal, most of them are a dime a dozen, but not all of them. -

That doesn't solve the problem, taking up two roster spots in the top six instead of one is an inefficiency. Marner plus another top six winger is more than 90 points, two 45 point top six wingers to replace Marner is a major drop off. -

I'm sure the Leafs will get another 90 point winger any day now, them being a dime a dozen and all. Lulz -

More like, he didn't make enough dimes for them to save them from other idiotic investments. Gretzky made them plenty of dimes. -

Good Luck finding someone willing to give you a Foppa for Mitchy Lindros, that's a tough find. -

Yet you hate on Mitch Marner for doing exactly what you would do in his position and want to run him out of town over it. Harold Ballard Disease is a helluva aliment. -

It's such a relief to actually be a fan of a sane NHL franchise that doesn't self sabotage itself at every turn, while the idiotic fan base actually cheers it on, thanks to being brainwashed by the moronic hot takes of the hockey media. Feels Good Man. Ain't no Harold Ballard Disease in Denver. When the Nordiques left Canada, they were wise enough to leave the Harold Ballard Disease behind. Woop Woop. -

You love having Harold Ballard Disease, sticking it to Marner is more important than the team's success. Tell Leafs fans they are making the same mistakes that held them back for decades and they are like "f*ck yeah, lets do that, bring it on!". Sad. Enjoy The Leafs never winning the Stanley Cup in your entire lifespan, just remember, this is actually what you really wanted, deep down. A losing team culture if ever there was one. This is why y'all can't have nice things. Go ahead be the next Red Sox and Cubs. I'm just glad I jumped ship long ago, to a team that doesn't have a batsh*t insane fan base and media which doesn't perpetually drag my team down like an anchor. Best sporting decision I ever made, and ever will make. God Bless Joe Sakic and Nathan MacKinnon. -

Harold Ballard Disease Lives. Temporary remission, but it's back with a vengeance in Toronto, enjoy. All it took was two years as a contender and not winning the Stanley Cup to bring it back, the ghost still haunts them, he just took a vacation. The team can't be saved until the idiot fan base stops sabotaging the team with their ridiculous hot takes that the media goads them into. Listening to the fans and the media is a sure fire way to ensure the Leafs never win, you'd think decades of that being the case would make them hip to it being a terrible idea, but they get good for half a second and the Sharks are already circling. -

One player not winning the series for a team does not equal them being ineffective. You are being ridiculous, a point per game is not ineffective, regardless of the series outcome. -

The Edmonton Oilers are useless, Connor McDavid is not. How is it McDavid's fault that the Oilers goaltending and defense sucks, and they have no depth at forward? McDavid hard carries them, they are just so sh*t that only keeps them out of the absolute basement of the NHL. Swap McDavid out for Crosby or MacKinnon, and the Oilers aren't any better, no one player can save that dumpster fire, not even prime Gretzky would get them to the playoffs. It's the Oilers, not McDavid. 9 points in 7 games, 4 goals and 5 assists is "pretty ineffective"? Marner hater being overly emotional is obvious, more than a point per game in the playoffs isn't good enough, then you'll never give him any credit for playing well in the playoffs. -

Considering how much Gretzky made the LA Kings, it more than paid for itself many times over, should have gotten more. Not buying that was the best possible deal they could have made, they just thought it was and caved too early in negotiations. -

They sold high and got way less than they should have though. Selling high was a good idea, getting that little back wasn't though, LA would have payed more if they hadn't caved so fast. -

Was a great move for ownership, cha-ching. Still should have gotten more though, even with Gretzky having only a year left on his deal. Gretzky made LA so much money, the Oilers could have easily gotten more money, and/or better players in the deal. -

The Oilers got jack sh*t for Gretzky, just because they won a cup without him doesn't mean that was a good deal. Four first rounders wouldn't have been worth Gretzky either, even if they were all lottery picks. To be fair to Edmonton though, if they hadn't moved Gretzky for jack sh*t, he would have left a year later anyway, for absolutely nothing. So a bag of pucks and some cash was better than that I guess, especially when everyone knew Gretzky was gone in a year, and they weren't going to get proper value. Even still, they should have gotten more. -

Edmonton is so garbage McDavid can't make a difference, on any contender though, he'd make a huge difference, don't be naive. Just because he's not good enough to pull Ottawa out of their tail spin all by himself, doesn't mean half the NHL wouldn't be wise to give up four first rounders to get him. -

Yzermandius19 replied to QuebecOverCanada's topic in Ice Hockey's NHL Hockey Talk
Nah top 3 players in NHL are worth four first rounders if your team isn't a complete dumpster fire. Trying to pretend there is no one who is worth four late first rounders is just silly. -

Not if it's McDavid, or MacKinnon, that won't turn you into a train wreck. You overvalue late first round picks. -

Yzermandius19 replied to QuebecOverCanada's topic in Ice Hockey's NHL Hockey Talk
Someone overvalues first round picks, especially late first round picks, which are just glorified second rounders, and it's Dougie. I'd give up four first rounders for McDavid, that's an absolute no brainer, especially for any team in contention. The Leafs would be stupid not to make such a deal if they had the picks to give up and Edmonton was dumb enough to part with McDavid for that price. -

The Leafs are doomed. Leafs Not Winning Immediately Derangement Syndrome causes the fan base to act as counter-productively as the Democrats reacting to Trump tweets, even you fall for it, that spells doom. Harold Ballarditis never left, it just went dormant for two to three years. -

Harold Ballard Syndrome lives. Even when the Leafs get good, impatience of the fan base whipped up by the clickbait media will derail it, every single time, without fail. You need to lose before you learn how to win, but Leafs fans won't put up with that and form a mob to break it up before they can learn. Overpay UFA's well into their thirties and run the young stars out of town, like clockwork. Leiweke warned you about this on his way out the door, way to learn nothing Dougie. Leafs fans get way too emotional, the media weaponizes it, and the team falls apart.
