Handguns and Assault Rifles
Yzermandius19 replied to Zeitgeist's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Still got some work too on convincing them that gun control is farcical, I find drawing a parallel between the war on drugs, which they despise, and gun control, which they support, helps them see the flaws in the logic of the latter position. I should start calling it "the war on guns" to drive home the point. -

Me too, raised by Eskimo Communists, with a libertarian streak though, which is how I slowly sour them on the Eskimo Communism they raised me on. Diabolical. -

Absolutely, they 100% do that. When they do invoke the central narrative, it's simply to divert to Social History and attempt to discredit that central narrative in the process. Teacher's unions, it's what they do. Eskimo Communists gonna peddle Eskimo Communism, who knew? -

I learned civics in school, it was a compulsory credit for high school graduation too. I imagine most just don't pay attention, and it goes right in one ear and out the other. I was taught the central narrative of our history, but the teacher's unions simply pretended another narrative is actually the central narrative while they did that, and they discredit the actual central narrative in favor of that propaganda at every turn. -

I find it hilarious that someone telling people to go live in America, because of their loyalty to the Monarch over the state, thinks Canada is like America and is a republic that answers to We The People. If you want to live in a country that's all into this "We The People" thing, it is you who should move to America, because that country is not Canada, that country is America. If anyone is Anti-Canadian seeking to Americanize Canada, it's folks like Zeitgeist. Canada is a Monarchy, not a Republic, it's time Zeitgeist got used to it and stopped pretending Canada is actually America. -

Well they won't, so no need to worry about that anyway. Running on a gun grabbing platform is not a winning strategy, someone who pretends to be pro-second amendment but wants to grab as many guns as possible would have a lot more success. -

I suppose, but Biden keeps caving to the nanny state progressives these days, maybe it's all a ruse for the primary, or maybe Biden just can't stand the shrieking anymore, either way, not terribly encouraging signs he plans on running as 1A/2A old school liberal that he should run as, both for the good of America and for his chances of getting elected. Biden might be trapped in the twitter bubble that every well known Democrat seems to be in these days, and perceive that twitter is actually reflective of the wider electorate, when it's just a fringe vocal minority in reality. -

Yeah Biden is less of a gun grabber than Obama, that's certainly true, but he seems to have a penchant for caving to the far-left, and I think he could totally cave to them on guns as well, fooled into thinking that's the way to win the election while he's actually shooting himself in the foot. If Biden gets elected he might not deliver on that promise, but then again, you never know. -

Yeah well Trump may be expendable, but that still doesn't make it wise for Trump to give up anything more than token concessions to the Democrats on gun control. If he wants to increase his chances of losing though, then go right ahead New York Gun Grabbing Liberal, shoot yourself in the foot. -

This isn't just bump stocks dude, you keep overlooking that. I'm talking about the new concessions he might be planning on making, not the old ones no one cares about, not even the NRA. Trump should let them have them have the bump stocks, but he needs to stop caving every mass shooting while the Democrats keep demanding more and more, he's got to the draw the line somewhere. The time to do that is now, not after he caves again and actually makes a meaningful concession instead of just a token concession. -

I dunno man, I don't think that would play that well in Southern Ontario. -

The Blue Wall likes gun control enough to win him votes for caving on that? I don't recall his gun grabbing being popular in the Midwest battlegrounds in 2016, must have missed that one. -

This time he's going farther than bump stocks though, there has been talk about Red Flag Laws and sh*t, and you know lefties are going to abuse that to claim any right winger that pisses them off is crazy and should have their guns taken away, and some lefty judges will actually agree with them. Trump shouldn't cave to Democrats on gun control, it wins him no voters and only loses them, DNC and GOP are locked in regardless of what he does, but it doesn't play well with swing voters. It's a bad move, he can get away with it, but it will be to his detriment, not to his advantage. Giving the lefties their bump stock ban is no big deal, giving the lefties much more important concessions will hurt him though, and prove that he'll continue to cave after every single major mass shooting and give up bigger and bigger concessions every time. -

It'll cost him swing votes though. Not a wise play, no one cares about bump stocks, further concessions will piss a lot more people off. -

If Trump caves to the Democrats again on gun control, like he did with the bump stocks post-Vegas, it's a big mistake. The only people who would like it are Democrats who won't vote for him anyway, Republicans will vote for him anyway because there is nowhere for the pro-gun crowd to go, but they'll hate it and it will reduce his base's enthusiasm, and it will lose him swing votes in key swing states. Don't shoot yourself in the foot here Donald, resist the New York Liberal Gun Grabbing temptation. -

Paul Martin ignored the sweet spot, went big on the gun control in 2005, look where it got him. Trudeau knows, or at least, he should. -

I guess putting Sergachev and Hedman together is better than splitting them up, given that they don't have enough 2-Way Top 4 RHD's to play with both of them, and couldn't afford both of them even if they did. If Hedman and Sergachev are on the same pairing though, who plays RD? -

Well if that's the case, why not put him with Shattenkirk? Too far to the other extreme and not in the goldilocks zone? Problem is, Tampa doesn't have enough top 4 two way RHD's to go with both Hedman and Sergachev, so either have to play them together, or skimp on one of those pairings which will result in a failure to maximize Hedman or Sergachev. -

Yzermandius19 replied to QuebecOverCanada's topic in Ice Hockey's NHL Hockey Talk
Well seems to me that the best way to maximize Hedman, is to put him with a Hainsey type, who can stay at home while he can roam like Reilly. Problem is, Hedman is the best defensive defensemen on the team while also being the best offensive defensemen on the team, so pairing him with Sergachev would either result in Sergachev or Hedman being forced into a more defensive role than optimal, and they don't have enough McDonaugh types to play with both of them. So one way or the other, they are going to have compromise. If they could duplicate McDonaugh and the split cap hit, they'd be gold. -

The Liberals have already gone too far down the gun control path, your assessment of risks versus benefits is not very good. -

If anyone is good enough to cover his ass, it's Hedman though, but it still probably won't work and he'll end up a bottom pairing PP specialist. -

If he plays with Hedman, that would certainly be quite the upgrade of a defensive partner on a much better team. But that isn't going to turn him into Tyson Barrie, even still. -

Yeah and before he actually governed, accusations of racism held more water with the rubes than they do after being in office and not living up to that billing, therefore he'll do even better the second go around. The Hispanics were told Trump was Literally Hitler back in 2016, three years later and that figure hasn't shown up or shown any signs of showing up, if you think that hurts Trump with Hispanics, you're dreaming.
