The Great Immigration Debate
paxamericana replied to paxamericana's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Oh? that's a radical idea, at least to most Americans. Because in effect what you're advocating for is anarchy if I'm not mistaken. The concept of nation state would no longer hold true. -
As you are all aware immigration is currently a hot subject and can be considered political poison for those in office. This issue stems back many generations since immigrants first settled here from Europe and every where else since. Each wave of immigrants left a distinct mark on American society and way of life. Some for better some for worse, but mostly better. By in large, immigrants are just seeking a better opportunity, the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. The American dream. This has been true for every wave of immigrants coming here. Unless of course you're a slave. I would like to hear what are your thoughts on immigration, specifically, who, how and where.

Part of being in a free society is the ability to have strong vigorous debate over tough issues, with the goal of reaching an agreement or understanding of each other's view point. But when people resort to ad homein attacks, oversimplification of the other side and many other logical fallacies then the issue is that communication breaks down. That is not the way to a healthy debate. I've seen it done by all sides. This isn't a call for a cease fire, this is a call to listen, truly listen, you can only do that by respecting one another. Respecting each other's right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Respecting our core fundamental values. This is one of the core foundation of civil society. Issues like healthcare and organization are being vigorously debated but they can't be debated if we don't listen to one another. List of fallacies http://my.ilstu.edu/~jecox/FOI Materials/Logical Fallacies Definitions and Examples.htm

I think its because fascism is the new market trend. According to my Russian troll manual, courtesy of Jimwd, it says here that the demand for fascist products are high and universal sadness is down. This caused a huge trade imbalance with Canada as their production line of sadness is over supplying, creating an abundance of sadness in Canada. If Canada can stop producing sadness and start adopting fascism you will see the exchange rate reach parity.

Look at it this way, Trump's opponent are overly simplifying the issue and chalking it to trump's Islamophobic tendency. You've asked ,was it prudent. A president has in his authority to make that call, as reaffirmed by the supreme court decision. Trump is a pragmatist and a realist. He knows that allowing refugee to come here would also bring the risk of extremist slipping in. He saw no benefit to it. They don't speak English, they have no specialized skills or labor, we don't know who they are, we'll probably have to setup some sort of welfare aid program for them. He saw it simply as the risk out weighed the benefits(non existent in his mind). Besides we have plenty of asylum seekers from south america trying to do the same thing. He isn't willing to bring back one terrorist even if they are american. "The US wants to leave this American in Syria with $4,210 and no passport" https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/22/politics/john-doe-syria-isis-passport/index.html So in conclusion it isn't about Islamophobia its about refugee-phobia.

EU targets Trump states with tariffs
paxamericana replied to jacee's topic in Canada / United States Relations
You have no idea. I was just mentioning this to Jimwd , you guys would love it here. It's like fascist heaven. We get to do so many fascist things like talking about which fascist gucci bag we want to buy or how easy it is to find a fascist job opening and that canadians now fear us because they're somehow allergic to fascism. -
China nerves are buckling under trump
paxamericana replied to paxamericana's topic in The Rest of the World
China's history is an interesting one. This is the first generation that hasn't went through trauma like the boxer rebellion or opium wars , nanjing massacre , communist revolution etc.... So they are really really interested in maintaining internal stability. China fears chaos above all else. That being said the US debt to China is actually a good thing for them. Helps stabilize their financial system with US treasury backing ie the greenbacks, so to say that they are looking for a collapse of the US would be a huge overstatement. China is not a consumer economy like the US. They're what you call an export economy so they are more dependent on the US's market for reliable free trade. So its not so much we need them as they need us, in fact you all need us actually. Also I don't think any of these hired goons will be knocking on America's front door. They don't have the capability to take America head on, nobody does, not now, not ever. We're the only country capable to fight wars anywhere in the world and on multiple fronts. So if war was to break out lets just say it won't be at our front door. -

Why don't you contact your government representative and tell them to sign up for Trump's free trade proposal. He said it out loud plain and simple, no tariffs no subsidies no barriers. True free trade. You're not going to find a better deal else where. You think china or any other country is going to give a you a better deal than that? Get real, China has been practicing predatory economics and enslaving their neighbors whilst trying to ripoff and steal intellectual property from the west. What makes you think they will give you a better deal than what they gave the US, the world's largest and best economy. Your fate lies with us Canada, the sooner you wake up and realize it the better. It's for your own damn good. Even Europe is waking up to these realities. -
NAFTA negotiations.
paxamericana replied to Thinkinoutsidethebox's topic in Canada / United States Relations
And the funny thing is they're not going to get a better deal anywhere else. We have the best economy, the largest market, the most stable market I might add. If they aren't willing to do free trade with us their closest neighbor friend and ally"what makes them think they will get a better deal with China or any other country for that matter. You think China will give you a better deal than what they're providing to all their subservient vassal state "one belt silk road"? Better deal than what they gave the US who has the strongest bargaining power in the world when it comes to trade? Bunch of half baked intellectuals running these countries . ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG -
NAFTA negotiations.
paxamericana replied to Thinkinoutsidethebox's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I just love how all the economist running around in Canada and EU are trying to make a logical argument against Trump's proposal for true free trade. The best part is they know he's right from an academic standpoint but they can't admit it and instead chosen to appear politically tough like Trudeau whilst screwing over their countrymen. WAKE UP CANADA. America is doing you a favor! -
NAFTA negotiations.

Hurry up and get on board Canada. You can be a great example for the rest of the free world to adopt unilateral free trade. https://globalnews.ca/news/4297811/finance-ministers-trade-canada-retaliatory-tariffs-on-u-s/ -

1. You're viewing this as a zero sum game. The US is not in decline as you mentioned, we're simply renegotiating trade agreements. If anything, if you look at the activities of our ambassador and state department this year you'll notice that we are steaming ahead with bilateral relations all around the world. We're not on course for an isolationist agenda. Something a lot of trump critics fail to realize. Trump is merely exposing the current issue with trade. China's activities are increasingly similar to that of their Ming dynasty model with other countries simply serving as Vassal states. Look at their predatory trade and military relationship with their neighbors in the indo-pacific. You want to sign up for that? Good luck. Whilst china may produce a higher over all gdp in the future simply because they have more people but their GDP per capita is something to be desired. Second, European countries are already waking up to the emerging threat china poses on their door step. They see China for what it is, let me tell you, they're in no rush to be dealing business with china. https://www.brookings.edu/testimonies/chinas-relations-with-u-s-allies-and-partners-in-europe/ 2. Military power goes hand in hand with economic relationship, you can't have one without the other unless you're Canada who solely rely on the US for protection. America's moral authority is still the number one in the world. You're viewing moral authority too narrowly. Moral authority is in regards to a country's image of fairness, willingness and ability to do the right thing. Something that America has proven for nearly 70 years in the post world war 2 order. I don't think any other country in the world posses those qualities as much as america. Why do you think we're always in the lead when it comes to multilateral action. NAFTA needed to be renegotiated because supply management and unfair trade practices still exist between allies and there's no need to. All countries exercising in trade should adopt true free trade. We've been doing that since the Marshal plan. That's why our economy isn't export dependent and continues to be the envy of the world. 3. Trump isn't a career politician. He's very apt to speak his mind, something you me and everyone else on this forum has the luxury to do. But career politician often hold back on their thoughts to not insight criticism, not because they're any better than Trump. Trump has to be able to work with those he can work with, that's the office of the presidency. Every president has loss staff and I see no difference in this administration with regards to staffing as compared to say... Obama or Bush. If people like our secretary of defense James N Mattis, sign up with trump I think we are in good hands. Crap, I forgot this is suppose to be about idiot restaurants. Apologies to the OP -

He won't fail. You know why? Because he's an American president. He has the world strongest, economic, intellectual, moral, military power at his side. Say what you will of trump personal life but don't forget he is in the office of the presidency. He has the best tools and minds at his disposal. And he has clearly stated he intend on unleashing their creative power and not hamper them with Obama era restraints. -

Aluminium and steel industries are key to national defense its something worth protecting that being said... Its not about Canada, we know you guys wouldn't hurt a fly but its about china and their trade practices, you see the Chinese have been importing cheap high quality steel into the us through Canada by relabeling them as Canadian steel. Steel production technique that they stole from us... For some reason your government has decided to drag their feet in confronting these trade practices by china so Trump acted. Oh its not only canada by the way its all the other nafta/ eu countries as well. This is something Obama confronted as well but to no avail. https://thediplomat.com/2018/03/the-truth-about-trumps-trade-tariffs/ -

I'm not too concern about this actually. He's exposing the game and that is a huge political risk for a typical politician. But trump isn't a typical politician. In fact he isn't a politician at all. -

uh oh looks like the canucks are buckling like the chinese. I'm really curious to see end result out of all these trade disagreement. If everyone cave in then it'll be a huge victory for trump domestically. But most importantly it will define the new world order with better relationship between all nation and prosperity will continue to flourish.
