The laws surrounding home invasion and what people can do are complicated and not something that the average person has time to think about when a criminal breaks into your home and threatens you and your family. If you pointed a shotgun at an unarmed intruder and told him to leave immediately, and he didn't leave, what would you do? What would you do if he had a knife and you had a shotgun? If an intruder had a knife, and you had a baseball bat handy, what would you do? If an intruder was coming through the door and you had a baseball bat, would you have the right to hit him with it?

I am not sure how I worded that, but I meant dealing with mental health is not the ONLY solution. You can't allow every person in the country to have guns, including all the millions with mental health problems, and not expect tens of thousands of people to be shot. I did state clearly on my above posts that I also believe in mental health treatment. I also stated that people with mental health issues or psychological, ideological issued should not have guns. Prayer is good, but it is not the only thing that is required. Some gun advocates are using it to make it appear as if they are actually doing something while they refuse to support gun control. I see Jen Psaki comments not targeting prayer itself, but rather mocking the gun free-for-all gang who refuse to bring in gun control laws and hide behind the idea of praying instead. God expects man (government) to act wisely and govern wisely with laws that make sense and not just pretend you are doing something that will solve the problem by praying only. Action is required to stop guns from being in the hands of those who shouldn't have them, not just prayer. You don't pray to God that a problem will go away and refuse to take action to eliminate the problem. Do you think God listens to people pray about a problem when they refuse to take action to solve the problem? Or when they refuse to support the common sense solutions to the problem? You don't give guns to mentally ill people or criminals and then pray that they don't shoot someone.

It's pure madness to give hand guns and assault weapons to everyone regardless of their mental or psychological condition. The simple fact is thousands of people do shot other people every year. So we must ask why do all these people who are going out and shooting other people and mass shootings given the right to bear firearms? According to the Supreme Court, the government has the right to deny them the right to possess firearms. There is the answer. Strict screening of everyone who wants to own firearms should take place. Also, the right to bear firearms does not necessarily mean in our modern society that anyone should own assault rifles. Assault rifles are not needed for self defence in a home. The hundreds of millions of firearms owned by almost anyone needs to stop and they need to be eliminated.

False again. I never said anything about treating or not treating mental health problems. Of course they should be treated. But there are millions of people, maybe hundreds of millions with mental health problems. How do you treat that number? That is a whole different problem that should be addressed as well. But you need to be realistic. Mental health problems could be a large segment of the population depending how it is defined. That is not going to disappear. In the meantime, stop giving all these troubled people hand guns to kill others with. We know we need knives in the kitchen and in some work places. Nobody needs to carry a knife around on their body either. Perhaps there are laws against carrying knives around already if the blade is over so many inches in length. That should be enforced also. The only way you could seriously reduce the gun crime is to take away hand guns from most of the population unless it is needed for their occupation. Eliminating all the hand guns in the population would be a major task and would likely need to be done by legislation. Nobody needs to have hand guns or assault rifles. You tell me why do millions, maybe a hundred million or more people, need hand guns or assault rifles? Just because. that's all. It's a feel good thing. But it is costing tens of thousands of lives every year for nothing.

It would make more sense to not allow everyone to have a handgun. Millions of people with mental issues or criminal mentality should not have guns. The idea that people should be allowed to carry handguns for self defence is a useless idea because as you said in most cases, they will not get the chance to use it to defend themselves. What that kind of system does is it gives massive numbers of mentally ill or criminals guns. Better to eliminate handguns completely except for police and security guards. That would save countless lives.

That is false. You offer no serious solution. We agree the human side of the problem is there is a vast mental health problem. Man is born with a sinful, fallen nature and for many people this remains a problem throughout life and often gets worse. You have no solution to the mental health problem and you claim just keep allowing everyone to have guns. We agree mental health is a problem. If you want to be a hunter or target shoot, then you could take a safety course and pass the exam and they could check your mental history. But a hunting rifle is not the same as a hand gun or assault rifle. No need for everyone to have those things.

One of America's biggest problems is the proliferation of guns. I understand there are more gun than people in the U.S. The claim that guns don't kill people is one of the Devil's biggest lies propagated by the Trump MAGA gun lobby in the U.S. Anybody with half a brain should know that if you allow guns in the hands of mentally unstable or ideologically warped people, you will get shootings. That's why you have 48,000 death a year by guns in the U.S., about half being suicides by guns. Bring in gun controls and stop allowing every Tom, Dick, and Harry with mental or ideological problems to have guns. Also stop allowing people to own assault weapons and hand guns with no real purpose. If one is a security guard, then of course he has a purpose to have a hand gun. But why allow everyone to have hand guns?

PP made an announcement yesterday calling on the Carney government to amend the criminal code to remove the long list of requirements placed on residents when defending themselves and their family. Apparently the present law is complicated and very involved and one must be some kind of lawyer to understand it. That must be changed to simplify it and make it understandable for everyone. When a criminal breaks in to a person's home, the victim just doesn't have the time to go through all the complexities of the law to figure out what to do. He simply has to act to do what he can to protect him and his family at that moment. The law presently doesn't work that way. Victims have been charged by police for defending themselves and their family from dangerous offenders armed with a gun or other weapons and have been put through an expensive legal system for many months. Or they have been locked up in jail before finally being exonerated. It is very expensive to have to hire a lawyer to defend yourself and your family just because you were trying to defend yourself when criminals invaded your house. This has to be changed. PP proposal will change the complicated laws that exist now to simplify it and make it more reasonable for someone to defend themselves and their family.

If people would pay more attention to the policies and decisions of the government when voting instead of just the personalities of the politicians, we might have a better country. Perhaps think of how carbon taxes on industry are pushing up the cost of living for everyone. Carney won't be much better than Trudeau and won't fix the mess. PP did a great job as party leader. The only reason Cons lost was because of the Trump scare. Just one subject is the disasterous justice system that catches and releases dangerous offenders that have gone out and killed people. Labour laws won't help because the system doesn't work like. There was a case where foreign workers were working in a small sawmill out of town and sleeping in a dirty building until somehow word got out. But labour laws didn't stop it until they were finally caught. The system is haywire. Just like the charter of rights. Means little unless you have lots of money for lawyers and can wait years for a decision. Even then the ruling may not help. Too late.

I doubt it is as easy for native born Canadians to get those minimum wage jobs. Many probably only hire foreign workers because they can get away with more. Foreign workers afraid and won't report violations.

Of course we can't tell Ceasar what he can or can't do, but we live in a western democracy remember. It is in agreement with the Bible to question what government does. That is permissible in today's world. The King and Constitution gave us the right to do that. The people participate. We don't dictate what govt does, but we can make requests and disagree sometimes. That doesn't mean Christians should do anything that is clearly wrong.

So where do you get these accusations about me being warned about the subject of undocumented migrants? You are making up completely false claims. I simply pointed out to you and others recently how this mass deportation scheme is contrary to the Bible and possibly various other laws and conventions. Also pointed out arresting, imprisonment, and deportation without a due process that includes any international conventions on refugees, the Constitution and laws, may also be wrong.
