A few of the many tragic deportation cases.
blackbird replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Actually what the Trump/MAGA supporters are doing does look very similar to Nazi Germany in the 1930s. In Nazi land the enemy was the Jews. Now the enemy is all the migrants from the third world. You want to deport as many undocumented migrants as possible without any real due process. Put tariffs on the rest of world. Trump and presumably his loyal followers want to annex Canada, Greenland and the Panama and possibly other places. All of Trump's agenda claims to "Make America Great Again". This is what MAGA means. Your illustrious leader /admin voted with Russia, China, N. Korea and Iran against your traditional allies, Europe and against the Ukraine. This looks more like a new Axis of Evil which includes America. This is the way many people are looking at it now. The new white Nationalist America. Get rid of as many brown people who don't have proper legal status. Now Trump is sending out requests for support and claiming he wants to get to heaven. He thinks he can earn his way to heaven by stopping the war in the Ukraine. Does that mean he doesn't think he presently is on the way to heaven? Is he going to gear his agenda to earn his way to heaven now? What a mess. Trump fundraiser asks for $15 donations so he can ‘try and get to Heaven’ Sometimes the truth hurts doesn't it. -

It is really tragic that so many people blindly follow Trump and the MAGA gang with their radical anti-immigrant actions. This same gang is aligning itself with the west's traditional opponents in the world, Russia, China, Iran, and N. Korea by voting with them against Europe and the Ukraine. There are so many irrational things being done by this admin now it is stunning that some people still blindly follow them. One can't help thinking that they are a core of white nationalists that want to turn America into a pure white race and cut itself off from all of our western allies and the rest of the world. Their actions seem to point in that direction. -

Another news report pointing out another person that should not have been allowed to own firearms. "Texas man accused of shooting 19-year-old to death says he was ‘testing his cousin’s reaction’ A Texas man accused of shooting his 19-year-old cousin dead told police it was accidental — and that he was trying to test his reaction time. Jose Magareno, 21, was arrested and charged with murder in the fatal shooting of his younger cousin, Emmanuel Najera, on Monday, The Dallas Morning News reported. Najera and his younger brother were visiting Magareno at his home in Dallas to celebrate Najera’s birthday when the shooting unfolded around 5 p.m., according to a Dallas police arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by the outlet. The group was in a bedroom discussing firearms and practicing concealed carry when Magareno asked Najera to test his “reaction time,” the affidavit said. Instead, Magareno drew a loaded pistol and shot Najera in the chest, the affidavit said. Magareno called 911 and told the operator he “accidentally” shot his younger cousin, according to the affidavit. The 21-year-old later told police he regularly practiced using his firearm and believed he had removed the rounds from the gun before pointing it at his cousin and pulling the trigger. Najera was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead around 8 p.m. Magareno was booked into the Dallas County Jail on a murder charge. As of Wednesday, his bond had not been set, according to jail records. Police investigation into the shooting remains ongoing. The Independent has always had a global perspective. I don't know if that is the case. I doubt there is any such statement in the law, by congress or the citizens, particularly concerning a person who served in the U.S. Navy honourably. It simply doesn't make sense and I think you are making it up. -

Nope. It opens us up to spies. If they served in the U.S. Navy in the Gulf War, any normal person would think you actually owe them citizenship. -

Yes. We have a statute of limitations. But to be in the US, they must be a citizen or have legal permission. If they don't, they can not be here. So, you admit they broke the law. I am not a lawyer and don't have the laws here, but I told you they may have committed a minor offence ten or twenty years ago. I never said they were drug addicts. You implied that. They may have a one time been convicted of possession of a small amount of pot when they were a minor but twenty years may have passed during which they lived good lives, even served in the U.S. Navy as in one case I posted. Yet they are treated like hardened criminals and you don't see a problem with that. I go by the Bible and if it obvious many of these cases are about some minor offence in the distant past, which they were already punished for and paid the fine. It is being used as an excuse to go after them. Not holding legal status is not an excuse to go after them harshly now if they were allowed to live and work for many years. To do that suddenly now just to meet some kind of deportation quota is obviously inhumane. But you don't believe what I quoted in the Bible and think it is fine to just arrest and deport anybody without considering their the total history and how they have been living for many years. I don't agree with that kind of Nazi mentality that you hold. It is not biblical. It is harsh and unreasonable. -

So the U.S. gladly accepted Dean Bailey's service in the United States Navy during the Gulf War, but 19 years later deports him to Jamaica at age 41 because of a pot conviction in the distant past. Sad, but true. Just proves how unreasonable and harsh the U.S. can be with some people who don't deserve this kind of treatment. I just thank the Lord I am not in the kind of predicament that many of these people are in. I also thank the Lord for opening my eyes though his written word, the King James Bible, to some of these things that are going on and how God commands man to treat his fellow man. There are many verses that teach we are to treat the foreigner and our neighbour with love and respect. I don't see that happening in these cases. -

blackbird replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Millions of Americans have broken minor laws too. But nothing happens to them decades later. Many of these laws they broke was all to do with paperwork. The U.S. treats them very harshly for even the most minor infractions. In many cases, they put false information on the paperwork because they were backed into a corner. The choice might have been to admit they were brought into the U.S. by their parents when they were young persons and haven't been able to obtain legal status since then. If they say that under the current administration, they know they could be separated from their families and booted out of the country. The system is very harsh and unreasonable. You would probably do exactly the same thing as they do. Another reason these people are deported, even if they have been working in the U.S. for decades is if they had a minor conviction for pot possession long ago. They may have paid the fine for it 20 years ago, but now with the new administration, if any migrant had any kind of conviction like pot possession when they were a young person decades ago, it doesn't matter. They will be deported. The admin is using anything for an excuse to make people leave. That is unreasonable and inhumane. -
The issue of the bare-faced lie of the maga gun movement has nothing to do with Covid and the unvaxxed issue that took place in Canada. Of course it is a choice made by people. But you missed the point. But if you give millions of people guns who have mental problems or are mentally unstable, then you get what is happening now, that is, about 48,000 people a year in the U.S. die by guns. The claim that guns don't kill people is completely wrong. We all know guns by themselves don't kill people. But if you give them to the wrong people, which is what is happening now, then of course the guns will be used to kill people. That is the point here. It is foolishness to claim guns don't kill people when they are the weapon of choice for killing 48,000 people a year in America. I think you're wrong there. When the massive number of guns in the U.S. are in the wrong hands, mentally unstable and irresponsible people, you end up with 48,000 dead people a year from guns. That cannot be claimed a benefit of the freedom of any individual to have guns when they are in the wrong hands. It is ludicrous to think 48,000 must give up their lives so every nutcase or mentally ill person can have guns. I'm afraid the claim that freedom outweighs the lives of all those people is complete lunacy. No need to give guns to hundreds of millions of people with mental issues. The Supreme Court has also already ruled that the government has the right to ban felons and mentally ill people from owning guns. The problem is that action is not being taken to stop those kind of people from having guns. Not every American thinks mentally ill or unstable people should have guns. I think if you ask them, most would agree they should not have guns. But there is a hard core group of NRI, MAGA, GOP people who don't want anyone to deprived of the right to own guns. This is a cult mentality that is costing thousands of lives.

" Millions of immigrants call the United States home. Many are here legally, some live in the shadows; others have been deported or kept from joining their families in the United States, or else live in fear of being separated from their loved ones, as these immigrant stories illustrate. Many immigrants have lived here for decades; they have families with U.S. citizens; they own businesses; they go to college; they have jobs and pay taxes. And every day, many of these individuals battle extremely harsh laws that can result in permanent exile and separation from their families. The Bailey Family Howard Dean Bailey served in the United States Navy during the first Gulf War. He ran his own business. He was a husband and a proud father. But at age 41, he was deported to Jamaica — a country he had never visited since leaving as a boy of 17 — based on an old marijuana conviction. The strain of separation caused his marriage to fall apart, and his children started doing badly at school. Howard struggles to understand how this could have happened to him. “I made a mistake, but that was 19 years ago and I never made another.” Read More. The Matamoros Family Ivon Matamoros came to the United States as a child. As an unauthorized immigrant, she would be eligible to temporarily remain in the country under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. But because she has a felony conviction under Arizona law for using false documents (in order to work), Ivon is ineligible for DACA and legalization. She now faces deportation and permanent separation from her husband and young daughter, a US citizen. Read More The Carrascos Family Hugo Carrascos’ parents brought him to the US at age ten, seeking education and opportunity for their son. Hugo didn’t even know about his unauthorized immigrant status until high school, when he tried to get a driver’s license. He married a US citizen and took a job as a server in a restaurant, mentoring at-risk youth in his spare time. But he was arrested during a workplace raid and now faces deportation. Read More The Gutierrez Family Oscar Gutierrez, who came to the US as a young teenager, is in deportation proceedings based on three DUIs and a conviction for driving without a license, all related to his struggles with alcoholism. Now sober, he’s the primary breadwinner and caretaker for his sick wife and two children, all US citizens. But because deportation is mandatory for his offenses, none of that counts in the eyes of the law, and he faces permanent separation from his wife and children. Read More The Forrester Family Dana Forrester met her future husband, Astley, while on vacation in Jamaica. When they applied for visa for Astley to come to the U.S., immigration, they discovered that he was permanently barred from entering the United States. The reason? As an adolescent in Jamaica, he had picked up two minor convictions for possession of marijuana. Dana has been left to raise their children in the US, without her husband by her side. Read More The Khoy Family Lundy Khoy was born in a Thai refugee camp after her parents fled the genocide in Cambodia. At one year old, she and her family came to the U.S. as refugees and were granted legal permanent residence. While attending college in the US, Lundy was convicted on a low-level drug possession charge. After serving three months in jail, Lundy moved back in with her parents, got a job, and enrolled in community college. But because of that old drug conviction, she faces deportation from the US, the only home she has ever known. Read More Immigrant Stories - Immigrant Defense Project

I never said anything about deaths by knives or other weapons. You are making a false assumption when you say I don't care how many die by knives. That is a dumb thing to say. Of course I care. You seem to think you can just throw out any kind of insults that you make up. No credibility. If you read the O.P., you would see the subject is the lie that claims "guns don't kill; people kill". Obviously the possession of guns could be controlled by laws and enforced if the U.S. wished to do so. The statistics say 79% of murders involved guns. "How many people die from gun-related injuries in the U.S.? In 2023, the most recent year for which complete data is available, 46,728 people died from gun-related injuries, according to the CDC. That figure includes gun murders and gun suicides, along with three less common types of gun-related deaths the CDC tracks: those that involved law enforcement, those that were accidental, and those whose circumstances could not be determined. The total excludes deaths in which gunshot injuries played a contributing, but not principal, role. (CDC fatality statistics are based on information from official death certificates, which identify a single cause of death.) What share of U.S. gun deaths are murders? What share are suicides? Though they tend to get less public attention than gun-related murders, suicides have long accounted for the majority of U.S. gun deaths. In 2023, 58% of all gun-related deaths in the U.S. were suicides (27,300), while 38% were murders (17,927). The remaining gun deaths that year involved law enforcement (604), were accidental (463) or had undetermined circumstances (434), according to CDC data. What share of all murders and suicides in the U.S. involve a gun? About eight-in-ten U.S. murders in 2023 – 17,927 out of 22,830, or 79% – involved a firearm. That was among the highest percentages since 1968, the earliest year for which the CDC has online records. unquote What the data says about gun deaths in the US | Pew Research Center

"Suspect charged with murder for fatally shooting 11-year-old boy playing ding dong ditch" " A suspect has been charged in the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy who was playing “ding dong ditch” in Harris County, Texas. Gonzalo Leon Jr., 42, was arrested and charged with murder Tuesday in connection with the shooting, the Houston Police Department said. He is now in custody at the Harris County jail. Police also identified the victim as Julian Guzman, who witnesses said was running away from the house when he was shot." Suspect charged with murder for fatally shooting 11-year-old boy playing ding dong ditch This is just one example out of tens of thousands of cases which demonstrate what happens when millions of guns are in the hands of millions of people who should never have them in the first place. So many people are so mentally unstable and irrational that they will shot anyone at the drop of a hat. Yet they have guns at their fingertips ready to shot anybody on a moment's notice.
-
Of course it is a lie. The statement guns don't kill people is clearly implying there is nothing wrong with anyone having guns. It is saying we should not consider guns as a cause of all the shooting of people. Guns are absolutely a major factor in the homicides and suicides of tens of thousands of people in America per year. So the claim guns don't kill people is an outright lie and deception that countless people believe. We know the claim 'guns don't kill people" is completely false. There are millions of people with mental issues, psychological problems and radical political beliefs that should never have guns. These are the people who are shooting and killing people every day. You put a gun in the hands of such people, what do you expect to happen? Of course when guns are in the hands of the wrong people, which they are, they pull the trigger and kill other people. Your saying it is not a lie is incomprehensible and is either deliberately being deceptive or complete ignorance. Guns are the easy tool that people use to kill others. There are hundreds of millions of guns in the population. They are as easy to obtain as a loaf of bread or cup of coffee.

" The single most ludicrous thing Trump just said about guns WASHINGTON, DC - AUGUST 05: U.S. President Donald Trump makes remarks in the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House as U.S. Vice President Mike Pence looks on August 5, 2019 in Washington, DC. President Trump delivered remarks on the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, over the weekend. (Photo by Alex Wong/Getty Images) President Trump delivered a short speech on Monday in which he blamed the internet, video games, mental illness, and the fact that the state does not execute enough people for the two mass shootings that killed more than two dozen people this weekend. The one thing Trump refused to blame was the actual weapons used to murder these individuals. The single most ludicrous thing Trump just said about guns – ThinkProgress Almost everything Trump says is for political purposes. It is to appease his MAGA base. That is a well known fact. So why would we expect him to say anything different about guns? To claim the number of guns and easy availability of guns is not the cause of all the shootings in the U.S. is ludicrous. Any reasonable person would have to say it is definitely the reason.
-
The simpleton deceivers try to defend the lie that "gun's don't kill people; people kill people". It is clear to any reasonable person that if you give a loaded gun to child or to a mentally, troubled person or a felon, he might well use the gun and shoot someone. The reason why guns kill people is the people use the gun to do the job. It is the combination of the gun and the potential murderer that kills people. Use some common sense!
-
You admit you don't know the law. Well, apparently is is complicated and has been interpreted by police in a way that puts victims of home invasions in a vulnerable position of being charged and dragged through the legal system at great expensive, and possibly put in jail for a period of time, possibly loss of their job, and upheaval in their life. They may eventually be cleared of wrong doing, but the law is apparently complicated and not reasonable.
-
Everyone should know what that lie is. It is very simple. Guns do not kill people. Only people kill people. That is it and that belief system is the reason there are about 48,000 deaths a year by guns in the U.S., half being suicide and the other half being homicide. Once again it is obvious that there are two interlinked problems that cause these unnecessary deaths. The gun lobbyist movement is very widespread and influential. It is a major part of the MAGA and GOP. They continue to make the false claim that guns do not kill people and only people kill people. This is a bare-faced lie. 1. The mental issues of tens of millions or hundreds of millions of citizens, who think shooting people is the way to behave. 2. The easy availability of guns, particularly handguns, in the U.S. is a fact of life. Reportedly there are more guns than people. With no serious gun control of course many mentally unstable or foolish people will use their guns for anything one could imagine. When most of the population have easy access to hand guns, that is the natural outcome. The fact is the so-called right to bear arms in the Constitution is being interpreted to mean that every mentally challenged or unstable person has the right to own handguns or assault weapons, even though the Supreme Court has ruled that government has the right to deny convicted felons and mentally ill people from owning guns. Unfortunately, that principle does not appear to be widely enforced and there is a gun culture. Almost anyone who wants guns has them, regardless of their mental state.

This report is just to show what home invasions can do. They are not a minor thing. "VAUGHAN, ONTARIO - A father of three was shot to death in his own home in Vaughan while trying to protect his family from armed intruders. Early Sunday morning, police say, Abdul Aleem Farooqi, 46, was asleep in his Vaughan home with his wife and three children when armed robbers broke into his house and demanded valuables. What happened next is under investigation by York Regional Police. “He was shot while trying to protect his four-year-old daughter who had a gun pointed at her,” said one of his employees at his business. “On Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025, shortly before 1 a.m., officers attended a residence in the area of Andreeta Dr. and Barons St. for a report of a home invasion,” said a news release from York Regional Police. “On arrival, a male was located inside the house suffering from trauma to his body. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.” There is no confirmation yet how many shots were fired. "
