  1. This time it's the US dragging its feet on border re-opening. Probably because they have no way to ensure someone's vaccinated.

Canadians will welcome vaccinated Americans to the US on August 9th. A boon to Canada's economy.

II suspect the issue for the US is Mexico, not Canada. But they don't want to say so because Hispanics are an important voting block for Democrats.

Well so are Border town communities in states like Michigan, New York, Maine, Wisconsin etc etc etc.

This can't be met well for their tourism industries.

  2. Canada moves past the US in percentage of the population fully vaccinated.

Too much confidence in the US, it has been swimming in vaccines since the new year and still can't get its act together

Canada has yet to produce an approved covid vaccine.

  3. The State of Florida recorded 7000 COVID-19 cases yesterday. All of Canada reported around 400.

And you still don't get that Hospitalizations are a lag indicator of case counts.

See what's happening in Missouri right now.

Regardless, I thought COVID-19 was done in the US? Doesn't seem so.

    3. Shady

      Shady

Hospitalizations won’t be as much of a lagging indicator as before vaccinations.  Florida is almost 50% fully vaccinated.  Regardless, vaccines are widely available.  Anybody that wants one can get one.  It’s not up to other people to shut down their lives to protect people.  And Florida has been open for months, so we’re at least 3 months behind them.  Our numbers will go up in the fall.

    4. Aristides

      Aristides

By the fall, Canada will be 80% fully vaccinated, the US seems stuck at 50%.

  4. The US saw the most COVID-19 cases since mid-May. They're going in the wrong direction. With no public safety measures in place, numbers will continue to rise. Deaths are also up.

I speak the truth.  Even you deep down inside agree.  The decision of unvaccinated people shouldn’t impede the lives of the vaccinated.

    4. Boges

      Boges

I totally agree. But that's just not healthcare works.

The problem we're going to see is that variants will keep popping up the more people treat the virus like they have in the US.

Eventually the vaccine will lose its effectiveness. Which is why we get Flu Shots every year.

  5. 3 Straight Trump Updates. Who's obsessed with him again?

Don't think I'll be voting for him.

They probably did it because they're about to call an election.

  6. It's interesting that Trump gets credit for Operation Warp Speed, but at the same time, Biden is peddling an unproven vaccine. It's almost like the Anti-Vax narrative is dishonest.

Oh so once it's FDA approved, it's OK to force people to take it.

He's trying to persuade people to get it because the Delta Variant is getting a foothold in the unvaccinated population.

Daily cases are back above 20,000

BTW Trump gave the keynote address at CPAC this past weekend. He hasn't gone away.

  7. The Ozark area of the US (Missouri & Arkansas) is the epicentre for COVID-19 Natural Selection. COVID-19 cases and Hospitalizations are spiking all due to pathetically low rates of Vaccination in those states. Idiots!

  8. Uh oh! the US hits 19,000+ COVID cases for the first time since the end of May.

Smoking is highly restricted as it effects others. Obesity is not transmissible.

One of the risks, in Canada anyway, will be continued lockdowns for those that choose not to get vaccinated if there's another wave.

    3. Shady

      Shady

There’s no need to separate people based on vaccination status.  If you’re vaccinated it’s irrelevant whether somebody else isn’t.  If you’re not vaccinated, you know the risks and you accept that.  Those risks may even include not being admitted to the hospital if there isn’t room.  That’s your choice, and you have to live with the consequences.

    4. Boges

      Boges

Again the Quebec instance is only if there is an outbreak.

As mentioned earlier. Covid outbreaks effect many aspects of the Healthcare system.

With only about 10% of the adult population without any protection. I doubt that'll be necessary.

Again, the US is a different animal. There are some states that have a very low vaccination rate. They most certainly will have to deal with those consequences and they'll have no one to blame but themselves.

  9. Now is not the time for arrogance in the face of the COVID-19 Delta Variant. The UK sees 30,000 daily cases and a 40% rise in Hospitalizations. Their vaccination rate is comparable.

As long as they maintain social distance and avoid interaction.

No gym, hockey rink or swimming pool, which is something many elderly need for their health. People with diseases like fibromyalgia. People who are handicapped. Even children who are mentally disabled and need to interact.

There is a time and a place for protest. And that time and place is not when wearing someone's uniform and representing that group or organization. Protest on your own time.

    3. Boges

      Or get Cancelled?

This only highlights the hypocrisy in the Cancel Culture narrative. Freedom of Speech is not Freedom from Consequences.

    4. Argus

Yeah, that's crap. Do you work for a living? Go to work and start protesting in front of the customers. See how long you're employed.

It's like all those moron sports players not seeming to understand people pay a lot of money to go to a sports game to escape from the normal reality of culture wars and politics and they don't want a bunch of overpaid athletes yanking them back into that reality.

Protest on your own damned time. If you're wearing the uniform of a country and represent it you have no business protesting against it. Strip the uniform off and boot them from the group. Then they can protest to their heart's content.

But that's different from going after someone who said or did something on his own, finding out where they work and then demanding they be fired.

Russia is experiencing a Covid second wave equal to their first one in November-December of 2020. Second waves happen.

Your New Delhi Television article does not produce any data showing why we need to believe the Delta Variant is responsible for any new deaths or hospitalizations. It just offers up one of those scary hints those kinds of publications like to scare the easily frightened with.

Sorry I can't run with you to tell the king the sky is falling just yet.

    3. OftenWrong

      OftenWrong

I already mentioned that the normal evolution of variant is more infectious, less deadly. Conversely some become less infectious, more deadly. Its unusual to have one that is both more infectious and more deadly.

The delta variant has shown itself to be more infectious but less deadly. Yawn.

More interesting is how quick certain media mouthpieces who acted like experts screamed it was more infectious, more deadly. And that was right away at the onset when this variant was discovered. I thought, how can they say that. No data yet to even back that up. It’s unconscionable.

You people who think you know things. You prove that good, auld adage “a little knowledge is dangerous”.

    4. Boges

      Boges

Who said the sky is falling. I'm not particularly worried about Delta, because vaccination.

However there are plenty in the US that refuse to get vaccinated. You want to assume that these variants are harmless and not the fact that vaccination actually works?

  14. Seeing the crowd of unmasked people in Montreal last night would have to show officials that filling the area wouldn't be the end of the world. You aren't even seeing crowds like that in the US.

    1. OftenWrong

I guess you didn't hear about the riot police and the tear gas used to disperse the crowd right after the game ended.

Fans inside the stadium were not allowed to leave, ordered to remain in their seats until further notice while authorities were dealing with an "unsafe situation outside."

      All done off-camera, of course.

Ain't it funny, how we don't hear much about that.

Weather is a contributing factor as well.

If vaccination rates stay at 50% or below in certain states, the disease could re-gain a foothold with variants.

    3. Shady

      Shady

It certainly is possible, but in the meantime they’re living their lives as mostly back to normal.  Keeping things closed down because something might happen later on is not what this is supposed to be about.  We’re down to 400 cases/day now in Ontario.  Why was it ok to have limited capacity at a gym last July but not this July when vaccinations are overwhelming?

    4. Boges

      Boges

I guess because our full vaccination rate is only like 8% and we have variants to deal with now.

They've kind of moved the goalpost on this because of a study that shows 2 dose is less than 50% effective against the Delta variant.

DoFo was burned by re-opening before hospitalization went back down.

  18. Canada is about to meet the 70% (of adults) with one-dose of the vaccine. A target Biden set for July 4th in the US.

Yes, lockdowns that didn’t need to take place had we not had to wait until April for any substantial quantities of vaccines.  Wasted months that were paying for now, while other countries have been back to almost normal.  Stop making excuses.

It's not good enough to not support JT, you have the REALLY!!!! not support him and not be happy that things are getting back to normal because we should have been inline with the US even though they saw much more death leading to negligible economic advantages and WAY more debt.

It’s a strategy we were forced into.  The United States has vaccinated the equivalent of Canada’s entire population 4 times.

    4. Boges

      Boges

Yet they still have less than 60% with one-dose. We could see 70% by mid-June.

There's no question the US has/had the supply. The fact that they're wasting so much vaccine is bordering on criminal, considering how much the rest of the world needs it.
