  1. Guess I'm a pussy then, along with 90% of my coworkers.
  2. Also, is Trump leaving the White House at all? Doesn't he give press briefings from there? I know they limited the number of reporters who could be there for each briefing, so they could practice distancing. Not sure how this is significantly different than JT's behavior, but I suppose if he did go elsewhere for his daily briefing, WCM and others would criticize him for telling us to stay home, but then not doing so himself.
  3. Agreed. Especially when they also jump all over others for behavior that is not nearly as a-holish as Trump's.
  4. What? That makes no sense whatsoever, its conspiratoid nonsense.
  5. Who cares, really? I don't; it's just a mask, wear one if you want. You're a supporter of Trump, if I recall correctly. Funny how his constant message changes don't affect his "credibility".
  6. Oh, I made a mistake! Cue insults from WCM! Speaking of "adult", normal, well-adjusted, reasonable adults don't insult other people for mistakes. They just point it out and expect a correction. Here is the correct link: New York coronavirus came from Europe .
  7. Oh, btw - it seems New York's outbreak came via Europe. So much for the brilliance of limiting travel from China. Not that I would hold that against Trump if he was a halfway decent leader; I'd just figure he was working off the best info he had, just like the WHO or Tam or anyone else. But he's such a shitshow, I assume his decision had little or nothing to do with protection of the US, but was driven by some other, more directly personal motive.
  8. It's not Trump's case I'm on; I'm objecting to the dopes who accept and defend his daily lies and BS while calling down everyone else. Pretty ridiculous statement. Says the guy with his nose yards deep into the poopchute of Fox News. He accidentally did one thing that might have helped, no doubt based on some petty impulse he had that day. Although given that the US now has the most cases of anywhere in the world, one wonders just how useful that was. Of course all the other things that are effective in showing the spread of this virus, that almost every other leader in the world has done - Trump ignored or delayed for weeks. Now he's undermining the efforts of various states to fight this virus. That's not leadership, that's stupidity. Leaders lead by example; JT says "stay home, work from home if you can" ... and that's what he does. JT respects science, and is offering supports to provinces and Canadians. Leadership is not tweeting your latest spat, changing your mind every other day, firing people because they disagree with you. Leadership is not setting States against each other, playing favorites or spreading misinformation in conflict with your own experts and advisors. JT has a lot of flaws, and he's done some stupid shit, but he's head and shoulders above the clown you bow down to.
  9. Funny how you believe Trump's daily changing bullchit, but think you're so clever calling out people who changed info as they learned more. Trump doesn't even have the excuse of new information to explain why he contradicts himself almost daily. He doesn't learn and many of his "pronouncements" are fuelled by petty disagreements or who last praised him. Funny how you ignore all of that.
  10. These two things confuse me:

    1.  People on disability/social assistance will get $300 more per month starting on April 22, because of the covid crisis; it's automatic no application required.  I have no problem with paying them more, but I'm confused as to why the government thinks they need it more now than during normal times.  Unlike many people, they still have an income -pittance though it be.

    2.  BCGEU wants to trigger the "me too" clause that says if one segment of the public sevice gets more money, everyone does.  All government employees are considered essential service, but nurses are getting extra because they're on the front lines.  I would think that just being able to work through this is good enough; most government employees aren't exposed to the public since most/all offices have been closed, at least in my sector.  So, in my opinion, this is unnecessary and not the right time to be asking for more money.

    1.  Source - overheard on a Ministry phone line recording;

    2. Source - email from BCGEU.

It's an income redistribution policy.  None of any of this equates to people laid of due to Coronavirus.  Some welfare queens are taking home $4000 per month, while some working people are getting are getting half that.  A part-time worker and a logger or miner will get the exact same amount (children notwithstanding).

  11. Thanks Betsy, but he's 10 years old and nobody but me and my partner are allowed to touch him; vet doesn't even recommend bringing him in unless it's a serious emergency because he's so terrified, not vicious, just paralyzed with terror. I spent considerable money and lots of time trying to get past this, but he's pretty determined that nobody but us can be trusted with his precious self. Even people he knows well and likes, he'll greet them warmly, from a 4 foot distance and shy away if they even stretch a hand with treats toward him. He was ready for Covid-19 the day he was born. Maybe if my partner and I weren't around at all for a week or two, he'd start to reconsider. Dog catchers have ways to catch strays that might work, I know, but that breaks my heart too. Thanks for the video, made me smile.
  12. This makes me wonder how many people on this forum you have on ignore. Perhaps you aren't on FB? As well as anecdotal info, I've also seen opinion pieces in some mainstream media echoing the opinions I read on this forum from the most partisan conservatives. Makes me wonder what the more extreme RW media are putting out there, but I suppose the likes of Taxme keep us updated there. I don't really watch any of them; they're all pretty dull, imo, and key information is readily available afterward. I don't even think they're strictly necessary from a "news update" perspective. I think their main value is more reassurance that our leaders are on the job.
  13. All Ford had to do was believe in the science and do what every sane government around the world is doing - and gosh darn if "leftists" didn't notice and acknowledge, even praise. In the meantime, JT does essentially the same thing, but "rightists" continue on the warpath, claiming he's done nothing, or not enough, or not fast enough, or is "cowering at home", or isn't a strong enough leader, yada yada. So many conservatives are so deluded by their partisanship that its going to be very apparent to moderates that they can't be trusted. If conservatives want the Liberals to have a majority next election, all they need to do is keep showing up on social media with their completely partisan nitpicking criticism, their conspiracy theories, their death wishes on JT and his family, and their lauding of Trump. 74% of Canadians overall think JT is doing a good job, but only 45% of cons agree.
  14. My biggest worry is my dog. If my partner and I ended up in hospital or worse, I don't know what would happen with him because nobody but as can get near him. The other dog wouldn't be a problem, though she'd miss us. Glad you are staying home and doing what you can to stay safe, sorry if my other post gave a different impression.
  15. Its not practical for me to order groceries from home because I wouldn't be able to get them for at least a week, they're that busy. But I'm ok grocery shopping using precautions. How am I dissuading anyone from doing anything?
  16. Are you high risk, or scared or both? I'm in higher risk demographic (as I'm sure many of us here are) but not as bad as some people, even people I work with. I did try to order online, but they're so busy in my area that I wasn't going to get my order for at least a week. But I still am ok grocery shopping in person - I take safety precautions like hand washing and distance keeping, go during the 7 to 8 am old folks special shopping time. I carry wipes around with me in case I have to touch things like door handles, cart handles, card machines etc., and I keep my hands in my pockets otherwise. I work at home as much as possible (glad I can), although I don't really consider my office as a high-risk area as it's practically deserted on a daily basis. I probably won't get it as long as I continue those habits; if I do, the infection will probably not be severe and if it is - well, I'll probably survive. If I don't survive, I'll be dead and everything will be irrelevant to me. I can't worry about what might happen after I'm dead since I've taken what steps I can to make sure those I love are taken care of to the best of my ability. I spent a week being anxious and scared - but I can't live like that for long, its too exhausting and doesn't help at all. I've had pneumonia before, and I had the H1N1 when it went around; could have died both times. The only difference between those events and this event is that the possibility of dying never even occurred to me. So, I'll take recommended precautions with this to protect myself and others, but intend to continue on as normally as possible otherwise.
  17. If you wanna wear a mask, wear a mask. Why do you need Tam to 'validate' it? Extra precautions can't hurt. Although, please don't take the ones needed by healthcare workers. Betcha if it was Scheer's health minister saying the same thing, you'd feel entirely differently.
  18. Find me a conservative who would've supported a government who thought ahead to the tune of 10s of millions or maybe 100s of millions of tax dollars toward a non-existent pandemic. You know perfectly well they would have objected strenuously to such "waste". Some would have derided liberals for being so gullible as to think a pandemic was likely, or even particularly dangerous, floated conspiracy theories, pointed to the inaction of other nations as a model to follow. Two of those things are happening in the midst of the pandemic, as well as the mirror-image if the third. You can't blame governments entirely for the short-sightedness of those who give them power.
  19. So, if those people weren't tested, they wouldn't have the virus? Is that what you are suggesting? Because that makes no sense to me. Anyway, if you can ignore hospitals being overwhelmed in China, Italy and Spain by hundreds of new cases per day as not enough evidence to support the idea of limiting as much as possible the spread of this virus, well, I suppose nothing I or anyone says can persuade you otherwise.
  20. He hasn't dismissed the advise of experts; that in itself leads to fewer infections and a lower death rate. I think that provincial and local leaders have set the agenda for their jurisdictions, and some have done better than others. But even in that, JT hasn't actively worked against local authorities the way that Trump has, but instead supported them. I don't argue that JT could have shown stronger leadership in this, perhaps mandating country-wide limits sooner, but I still have the sense of a country more or less pulling together, rather than the chaos evident in the US. The criticism I see towards JT in this particular crisis seems mostly driven by partisanship, and not an objective actual assessment of his actions.
  21. The first two, I agree - in many ways, the US has been a leader in terms of humanitarian actions. But the last, not so much. "REAL tyrants" have been ignored or even supported by the US plenty of times. And currently, even in the US poverty and hunger abound.
  22. If it was a virus designed to eliminate certain segments of the population, it would be those who chose to ignore very available medical advice like "keep your distance" and "wash your hands". I suppose that might mostly apply to Trump supporters, but not necessarily GOP voters.
  23. You don't make appointments to go to wait in hospital emergency. If people aren't showing up to their scheduled appointments with their physician, they may end up at emergency, for sure. But here at least, people go to emergency because they don't have a family physician and don't want to go to a walk-in clinic, or because they don't want to take time off work to go to their family physician, or because they suddenly just want to check something out that they've been living with successfully for several days or weeks. Right now, people seem to be using emergency for what it was originally intended - emergencies, rather than an off-hours walk-in clinic.
  24. Can't speak to that, but my partner had to go to the ER for a non-covid related issue last week. Nobody waiting in emergency or in triage. At the very least, this is an indication of how many people unnecessarily visit ER on any given day.
  25. My relative would agree with you - Trump is the bees knees. Do you also expect Galactic Beings to come save us, for the internet to be shut down, and for Trump to make an announcement that will make everybody very happy, and make life so much better - we'll have everything we need or want, won't have to go to work any more and money will become a thing of the past! Just how far does your delusion go?
