  1. I like to be informed, as opposed to sticking my fingers in my ears, closing my eyes and screaming "NO NO NO!"
  2. That was a sobering read.
  3. Hard to imagine a politician doing anything he argued against when he was part of the opposition! It's not that I disagree with you, it's just that every politician ever seems to develop memory problems when they switch between leader and opposition. Find it odd how you complain about Trudeau and Chretien proroguing, but skip right over Harper proroguing to escape investigation or avoid a no-confidence vote. Seems to me that if proroguing is bad, its bad for all parties, not just Liberals.
  4. Not really. I feel like there is enough going on, I don't want to deal with political campaigns. I also want some time to get to know the Conservative leader to decide if I could support them. If there were an election this fall, should it be entirely voting by mail, or in-person as usual?
  5. Yes, ok - women are more intelligent. Also better negotiators, financial traders and leaders. But do not fear, boys - you've got us girls beat in finding your way and eye-hand coordination.
  6. Who is the Labour Party in Canada again? Because the graph that appeared at that link tracked the Labour party as well as Conservatives and Liberals. I couldn't find the claimed info on that page, seems to be primarily the UK and America. The few graphs I found related to Canada measured different things. Found this link from the Fraser Institute more informative, though it lacks easy acces to historical information - I didn't dig too hard admittedly.
  7. Yes, analytical thinking - that is a good one. Ethics - I believe that regardless of how ethical a person starts out, politics will erode that. I think you mean "can't" in that sentence, and I don't doubt there's some of that going on. As an employee of the Province, I have to do that once a year, actually. Every time I do, I wonder if those several levels above me are also doing this once a year. Giving people tons of money so they would be less likely to end up in food lines, or tents in parks doesn't seem entirely stupid, but whatever. Was he slow? Border closures to all but Americans was announced on March 16, five days after Trump's significantly less extensive travel ban announced March 11. Yes, the travel screening was horrendously mismanaged, and giving away PPE was no doubt a mistake especially in hindsight. "Let" his wife? For all you know he objected and she said "I'm going". Anyway, why should she be subject to rules nobody else was sibject to at that time? As for "bad advice" - in hindsight, yes. But everybody makes mistakes in unfamiliar circumstances, even experts. As more is learned, actions change - pretty normal sequence of events for humans. The expectation that advice would not change in an evolving situation is unrealistic, and reveals the simplistic thinking of a partisan looking to "blame". Yes, I agree he's apt to not think things through. I didn't watch many of his press conferences, work inteferes with my TV time, so can't comment on his lack of answering questions. As for seeing his family, they'd all been in isolation for close to a month at that point so I don't see a problem, seems to me to be one of the more petty complaints. And, plenty of people were "an entitled piece of shit" giving themselves permission to see family/friends they considered safe due to two or more weeks of separate isolation. Even perhaps politicians working in Ottawa but living elsewhere in Canada. Anyway, media this morning is suggesting that with Morneau gone, JT and Freeland are designing a plan to improve both the social welfare system and our environmental performance, to be announced in September. So maybe we'll be having an election sooner than later.
  8. For sure, but strictly speaking there's no training for being PM, or even a politician. In my opinion, the two most important skills are being a people person and having thick skin. No one person can possibly know everything they need to know to successfully run a country; they are guided by experts in whatever areas they're lacking. So someone's previous job experience hardly matters in this situation. I think JT has the two major skills needed to be a politician, but I also think he's a lazy thinker; how else could he find himself embroiled in three ethics breaches? I also suspect he doesn't tend to see things through and, were it not for the pandemic, I think we might have seen less of him as a leader, and more of someone biding their time till they're "retired", or in his case - voted out. I think he's well-intentioned enough, but something feels lacking, even giving him credit for how he's handled the pandemic. These are merely my observations, of course, and are as reliable as a Breitbart article - unless you agree with them, I suppose.
  9. He taught other subjects in addition to drama, as teachers do. The way people speak scornfully of Trudeau's previous career makes me wonder - are teachers automatically disqualifed from political office? Are there other professions that automatically disqualify people from having a political career, including being Prime Minister? Because if so, we should be getting the word out, instead of pretending that political office in Canada is open to all citizens if they wish. Some people do. Publically, he left to pursue other opportunities. But Snopes seems to have done some resesrch and came to the conclusion that there was a disagreement regarding a student newspaper that precipitated Trudeau's departure. Yes, gossip. But hey, if you have nothing real - gossip will do right? I voted for Trudeau the first time, and would not do so again because of his well-documented performance in his current job. I don't need gossip or even to scorn his teaching career to form my opinion of him. And I intend on looking at the Conservative leader in the same way, when he/she is elected, to see if I'll vote Conservative or continue my NDP protest vote. That means rumors, innuendo, gossip and petty criticisms (hair, socks, blah blah) are unacceptable If its not documented in a credible way, it means nothing. And yes, the above is an indictment of anyone whose partisanship allows them to accept BS against the other guy or for their preferred guy.
  10. Its not that I'm any more impressed with Trudeau than you are, but he was more than a Drama teacher and I can find no evidence of him ever being fired from any teaching job. If you need to use falsehoods to discredit him, perhaps you haven't looked very hard at his record, as that in itself should be enough. Spreading misinformation is not really helpful to our political process or to having an informed vote.
  11. "There might be fraud if we go with mail-in ballots! What shall we do?!" "I know, let's make the postal system slower and less efficient, because more chaos and less efficiency prevents fraud, yup!" And, remembering how concerned you were about older people losing their quality of life due to covid shutdowns, I think you'll be shocked and dismayed to learn that many Americans, including seniors, are not able to get their meds thanks to this "Fraud Prevention" scheme of Trump's. Mailed meds seems to the standard for vets, too. Not to mention the businesses who receive payment by cheque in the mail - quaint, I know, but not everybody in the States has access to internet for online banking. But hey, no sacrifice is too big as long as it will keep Trump in power.
  12. This is exactly why I wear masks ... it brings out my horns and forked tail, and I have no trouble with distsncing. Best kept secret is that masks = individual power and freedom!
  13. Clearly, Republicans are scared of Kamala Harris.

Clearly and for much longer....Democrats are scared of Donald Trump.

    2. Shady

      Shady

      Scared of what?

  14. Translation: Trump does not have to answer for anything, even if it costs 100s of thousands American lives. Let any be lost in Canada, and Trudeau must pay! Anyway, how would Trudeau "pay"? Given that the issues in LTCs existed long before this party came to power shouldn't Harper also have to "pay"? Why not Mulroney and Chretien too? Why haven't all governments prepared for a pandemic; warnings about them have been around for years so why wasn't SARS a wake-up call to galvanize our government, Conservative and Liberal alike?
  15. Dumb and dumber. Next stop: invisible.
  16. The right are cold, cruel and emotionless bastards who worship money above all things.
  17. I guess by your own definition, you must be a leftist.
  18. No "bubble" is entirely self-contained. If I breathe the same air as as my friend Cheryl, I'm also potentially exposing myself to virus she picked up from somewhere else - the grocery store, her teenage son who lies about how much mask wearing and social distancing he actually did when he hung with his buddies last week. I rely on hand washing, social distancing and mask use, as does everyone I personally know - exactly what medical experts recommend. You arrogantly assume that if someone is wearing a mask they must be doing it wrong - as if you are the only person who's smart enough to learn what the experts suggest. Maybe you need to get off your horse and instead of discouraging the use of masks, educate people on how to use it properly. Even your hero, Dr. Evans, says masks are an important tool reducing the spread of Covid.
  19. I think it should be addressed earlier on - most people don't kill anyone the first time they drive drunk and usually have previous court appearances. My opinion is that a first offense results in those in-vehicle breathalizers and out-patient addiction treatment of a minimum six months, will jail time for non compliance Second offense - in-person addction treatment, six months minimum and minimum one year loss of licence. Third offense, jail time, probation and loss of licence until proof of long term sobriety - at least a year, maybe as long as 5 years. Or something along those lines. I've a friend who realized he had to stop driving drunk when he smucked up a work vehicle and had to use the in-vehicle breathalyzers in his work truck as well as his personal vehicle. Ever since, he's been religious about using transit or taxi if he's been drinking.
  20. So ... how many Republican descendants of slave owners shall be refused credibility?
  21. That's not Argus. He disapproves of those riots as much as you do. He just doesn't need to join the Trump cult to do so. You've demonstrated over and over that "facts don't matter", so there's really no point. Trump is a con man, and you've been conned.
  22. Completely irrelevant to the issue of restarting only the college sports that make money for already rich people.
  23. Here's another rumour, a non-credible source, no mention in mainstream media. China reports spread of virus more deadly than coronavirus. I've also heard that Evangelical Christians expect Trump to make America a Christian Theocracy. This is not mainstream media, so must be true right? And here's a whole website full of stuff that may or may not be true, depending on what your preference might be or maybe just your mood.
  24. Actually, the 6 feet is the distance within which larger droplets fall to the ground, because - gravity. Smaller droplets (aerosols) can travel significantly farther, especially if from coughing or sneezing. They can also hang in the air longer than a few minutes, even up to hours. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanres/article/PIIS2213-2600(20)30323-4/fulltext
