That's completely false, rubbish. Christians and FGM: Christians and child marriage: From 2016: Christians and honor killings: Christians and gay-killing: Uganda, a Christian majority country, tried to pass bill that would execute gays, but scaled it back to jail time after international outcry. Nonetheless many Christian Ugandans still think it's up to them to kill gays. The Ugandan's anti-gay government has been strongly supported by Christian conservative politicians from the States. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uganda_Anti-Homosexuality_Act,_2014 http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/_i_kill_them_hbo_s_vice_goes_to_uganda_to_see_what_american_anti_gay_christians_have_created

Great job JT, sounds like you guys need a pat on the back......but is the federal government really in the jobs creation, or is that more the provincial side of the house....
Liberals are just now finding out that their party , the ruling party are responsible for all things that happen in Canada, good and bad....not like you guys held Harper for everything bad....in fact your still doing it, welcome to the club.....

Is the behavior of the Jehovah's Witnesses the responsibility of the wider Christian community? Is the behavior of pedophilic priests the responsibility of Christians outside the Catholic church? If Mennonite men are in the habit of raping their wives and daughters, is that something Blackbird, as a Christian, should be held responsible for? A child bride is defined as someone under the age of 18. Canada's laws allow for child brides. Please show me how this is because of Islam. In many States, the laws allow for marriage of children as young as 12. Please show me how this is because of Islam. Previously, there was a post showing where there are high incidences of 'child brides': These were not Islamic countries. Please explain how this is because of Islam.

I've asked my sister where all these virgins are coming from; she suspects that they are drawn from celibate Christians - though we aren't sure if that's their reward or their hell. In this modern age, there is concern that there will not be enough virgins; how will Allah solve that problem? Also, we've discussed the issue that men get all these perks, but what do women get? Islam does have some problems, that's for sure.

Oh I see - I said that if given a choice, I'd choose Sharia over the human race dying due to climate change! Of course, my comment and Sarsour's (whatever it was) are just exactly the same. I suppose then, that when you use all the same passages, hadiths and interpretations that ISIS and other terrorist groups use to explain Islam, we should understand that you are recruiting for them.

We laid claim, Russia doesn't agree. But we may have to defend it for our future economic security, or something like that. There are many reasons we may have to defend ourselves from any number of people or events. For me, climate change is a bigger threat than the possibility of Sharia law, but oddly some of the people most afraid of Muslims and Islam are absolutely unfazed about climate change. I mean, if I had to choose between an extinction event involving humans and living under Sharia law, I'd choose Sharia law. I wonder if someone will come along and copy/manipulate my words above so that it looks like I would like to live under Sharia law? Hmmmm ....

Well, no, that's not what it means. It's what certain groups want you to think it means. Phobia - an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something. (Google). A persistent, abnormal, or irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid the feared stimulus. A strong fear, dislike, or aversion. (Dictionary.com) an exaggerated usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects, or situation (Merriam Webster) Islam - self explanatory, I'm assuming. Islamaphobia - Dislike of or prejudice against Islam or Muslims, especially as a political force. (Oxford Dictionary) Hatred or fear of Muslims or of their politics or culture (Dictionary.com) irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against Islam or people who practice Islam (Merriam Webster) "Women are treated like shit in Muslim countries, because of Sharia law! If Muslims come to Canada, we'll have Sharia law and our women will have to wear bedsheets!" - Islamaphobic statement. "Islam is a patriarchal religion that does not support or encourage equality for women; it should be the goal of Muslim religious and political leaders to lead the way in implementing and supporting equality for women." Critical of Islam, but not Islamaphobic "Muslims practice FGM because Islam is a barbaric, misogynistic cult. If we let them into Canada, they will want all women to undergo FGM. How can you possibly accept that?" - Islamaphobic statement "FGM is an abhorrent and dangerous cultural practice that is thought to have originated in Egypt, and predates both Islam and Christianity and is still in wide practice today in the Middle East and parts of Africa, by Muslims, Christians and other native religions, despite laws against it. It is especially concerning that some immigrants to Western countries bring that practice with them and more needs to be done to protect women and girls" - Criticism of FGM, noting that it's not an "Islamic" practice, but a cultural one. "Muslims want to impose Sharia law all over the world! We must protect ourselves!" - Islamaphobic statement "There are a variety of forms of Sharia law in Muslim-majority countries. Some countries have both legal and criminal Sharia law systems; others only apply Sharia law for family/civil matters, while secular law is used for criminal matters. Some countries only apply Sharia law to their Muslim citizens while non-Muslims are subject to secular law, and some have a completely secular system applicable to Muslims and non-Muslims alike." - Factual statement Quite a few people assume that a statement which paints Islam and Muslims in the worst possible light must be correct and anyone who provides information or a viewpoint which suggests that maybe there's more to the story is dismissed as someone who's an Islam 'apologist' or won't have a 'rational' discussion about the perils of Islam. When I see that pattern repeated by someone, then I would consider them an Islamaphobe.

If I said "anti-Semitism" had to be defined before it could be condemned, would that be logical? How about rape? Do we need a specific definition before we could agree it was wrong? What if an MP wanted to study the government's approach to the problem of child-sex tourism? Would we need a specific definition of child-sex tourism in order to agree a study was a good idea or that child-sex tourism should be condemned? Words have meanings, and to pretend that Islamaphobia doesn't already have generally understood meaning is disingenuous.

Perhaps it was the details of your wife's menopause?

Have you never done a study in which the first step was to define the terms? As in "When we say this word in this context, this is precisely what we mean"? Everybody has a general understanding of the word "Islamaphobia" do they not? Mine might differ from yours in the details, but we'd probably both agree that Islamaphobia means essentially hate-speech against Muslims. So in a study that involves religious discrimination, including Islamaphobia, the first step would be to define in specific detail what 'religious discrimination' is, and what 'Islamaphobia' is. To define that much specificity when only proposing a study makes no sense. Given that you apparently do little or no research on your own - not even to click on a link - but decide your POV based on warring factions on an internet forum ... well, I'm not sure I'd agree with you on your assessment of 'not among the gullible'.
-
It was a motion to *study* the issue of religious discrimination and Islampahobia, not a motion to condemn anything. I would expect that the study itself would define Islamaphobia, along with other forms of religious discrimination, and go from there. Btw, the motion to condemn Islamaphobia passed last November, without Islamaphobia being defined. And look - everybody is still saying pretty much whatever the heck they want, and no police in sight to stop them. It's dumb to continue to assert that this motion is an assault on freedom of speech, but some people are just gullible.

A family member got pregnant while using birth control and breast-feeding. Breast- feeding is supposed to inhibit pregnancy, and the doc said that and a 'light' birth control pill would work. Perhaps it does 99% of the time, but in this case it did not. Birth control pills can be rendered ineffective when anti-biotics are used and some docs/pharmacists fail to mention that little fact to women. Crazy idea, but maybe a guy should *also* be willing to put that condom on even if she is using birth control. Can't be too safe, eh?

I don't understand why, when presented with facts and perspective that fails to present Muslims as barbaric savages, the usual suspects ignore that in favor of hyperbole, myths and outright lies. And then whine about people being unwilling to "discuss like adults". Here's a link discussing the different opinions on Aisha's age and why the age of six at marriage was extremely unlikely, and nine unlikely albeit possible. Or go ahead and believe that because someone said six or nine it must be true because everybody knows Muslims are evil and bad.

I agree its ridiculous that they would use children as stand-in brides, if that's what is supposed to be going on here. Snopes says its not. This is indeed a picture of a mass wedding at which the adult brides were present; however custom dictates that the brides not be the center of attention. The little girls are relatives of the wedding participants. Snopes also contains an article from the reporter who covered the event debunking the whole "child-bride/stand-in" story.

Arranged marriages with children have been common throughout history and around the world. They were not usually consummated till the kids were in their early to mid-teens. This seems young to us, but at the time it was 'middle-age' for most people. It's generally believed that Aisha was somewhere between 14 and 19 when her marriage with Muhammed was consummated and so they were absolutely within cultural norms of the time. Its still true that there are too many child brides in the world but most countries set minimum legal age with and without parental consent. With parental consent is usually around 15 or 16, but some countries allow 12 year olds to marry, including some States and quite a few non-Muslim countries. Iran allows marriage as young as 9, with judge's consent and a few countries have no minimum age, not because they are Muslim but probably because they don't think its necessary. Muslim majority countries are generally in line with Western countries with minimum marriage set at mid-teens and some, such as Egypt, have set it at 18 or older to be in line with Child Not Bride's standard. Legal standards are one thing, but social norms are another. Poorer and less developed countries tend to have younger girls marrying or co-habitating in lieu of marriage, regardless of the dominant religion, while countries with higher education and more wealth have fewer young marriages/co-habitation. So once again, the anti-Muslim group have taken a single fact and embellished it to paint Muslims as being a cult of pedophiles. Now watch as someone drops by to accuse me of defending pedophiles and child marriage because I cited history and fact instead of buying into their hysterical and fear-driven BS.

Believing that is a choice people make and one not borne out by facts or history. All of what is said about immigrants and especially Muslims has been said about the Japanese, the Chinese, Sikhs and Hindus over the last 80 years. Yet Canadian culture, practices and laws remain uniquely Canadians. Immigrants adapt to Canadian culture, even if they also keep some of their traditional practices, such as Chinese New Year or Diwali.

Christians in Middle East and Africa believe in and practice FGM, the killing of gay people, honor killings and child brides. Do you support Christianity?
-
LOL, why am I not surprised that you think a man shouldn't take responsibility for his own semen? Don't have sex, or use a condom, and men do not have to face the lack of choice inherent in foolishly giving away their 'property'.

Doctors and opioids, a troublesome connection.

Severe pain can cause circulatory shock which can kill you. Chronic pain can limit your life and cause depression and sometimes people attempt suicide to stop the pain. -
Hey, I just read very similar stuff on that alt-right Radix Journal site! Imagine - you and they saying almost exactly the same kind of thing! I'm gobsmacked!
