  1. How exactly is that different from the Conservatives or the NDP?
  2. Perhaps the judiciary, understanding that politicians dancing to the tune of angry (and often ignorant) public doesn't mean the Charter must be intrepreted in a way that removes the rights of individuals or reduces personal freedoms. Here is an article about ideology in Canadian Courts that you may find interesting:
  3. Thanks, I think that's a good description.
  4. Ok. So what is the core identity that Trudeau fails to recognize? Is that we don't like people who break the rules or who look different from us?
  5. Ok, thanks. Not having a "core identity" sounds odd to me too, although given the divide I see here maybe its accurate. If some of us don't care that babies might be born here from out-of-country mums, or that we have Muslims among our refugees and immigrants, but other people think these things insult or.threaten Canada, what does that say about our "core identity"? How would you define our "core identity"? And you didn't say: Do you think our cultural 'stuff' (music, TV) etc. should be protected?
  6. I tried googling this but did not find any quotes. Could you provide a cite, please? We've been protecting our Canadian music, movies and television for as long as I can remember. Are you one of those who think we should not?
  7. Use Netflix, Amazon Prime and CraveTV. Still have to pay but it will be cheaper than a cable subscription and there's a lot of variety, although not everything you get on cable. If you have a smart TV, you can use apps for some content. Google TVAddons for more info on cord-cutting.
  8. If a bunch of young kids of different faiths, colors and ideologies are put together, they'll get along just fine. Left alone, they'll grow up together as friends. Intolerance is taught, not inherent. It is passed from parents to their children, the social behavior demonstrated as 'normal' by adults reflected in the kids as they grow.
  9. And yet, they don't. The "Right" does not consist of 65% of the electorate, which the poll you've referenced tells us is the percentage of Canadians who think the illegal border crossings need to be addressed. That 65% includes a lot of 'left' leaning people. Perhaps you could try to avoid grouping and accusing millions and billions of people in your 'arguments'.
  10. We don't have to do anything: world population growth is already slowing and will start decreasing within the next 50 years. Even if that doesn't happen, climate change will take care of practically everyone, human or otherwise. So, overpopulation is a worry we can dospense with.
  11. Their boss got jail time.
  12. Growing up in BC, we slaughtered pigs and chickens "in our backyard". It was a semi-rural area, plots of land between 2 and 5 acres. Still I agree that a cow being slaughtered in an urban area is a different thing. Also it is illegal, so I hope charges come out of this. According to Halton Police, the slaughter took place at the site of a Mosque that is under construction, so not quite "in the backyard", but illegal nonetheless. At least according to a tweet from Tarek, today. Couldn't find any other source about the slaughter. As my sister has influenced her Muslim-raised husband with her Western tender and progressive sensibilities, he will no longer attend the ritual slaughter of cows. Stupid religion, thinking God requires a sacrifice.
  13. Agree that once people have adopted an ideology, they have to find their own way out. While statements signed by Imams and Fatwas against terrorism are nice, they are really only useful for those who are not yet radicalized.
  14. Yes and I am not the only one who has called you out. Anyway, Goddess, I do not want to snark at each other any more. I am just as entitled to my opinion as you are to yours and its just a fact that we do not see eye to eye. I am sorry if I have offended you again. Hope you have a great weekend.
  15. What I said was that I thought anyone who killed other people, for any reason other than self-defence, had mental issues of some kind. IIRC, later in that same thread I modified that postion somewhat in responding to someone who has the capacity to read what I write and not what they've decided I must believe. Cite this, or shut up.
  16. What the fvck is the matter with you? I condemn terrorists, just like everyone else. Have said so many times; just because I don't assume everyone with a Muslim name is a terrorist or that a 15-year-old isn't affected by his parents' brainwashing doesn't mean I think terrorists are ok.
  17. Cuts both ways, chickie. You regularly level accusations about what I believe and what I have posted that I know are not true. I bet you would never think that you are "lying" eh? But to me, it sure as fvck looks like lying.
  18. Thanks for the hint. Yes, Canada is very inviting to immigrants. My sister used to work for the YMCA in Vancouver and met a lot of immigrants. Turns out that when advertising in other lands, Canada paints a very rosy picture of the opportunities here. They fail to mention useful tidbits like "Your degree will be useless here unless you can support yourself while paying tuition to go to university and get a Canadian certification". They show up with advanced degrees in Engineering or Medicine and find out janitor work, taxi driving and fast food are wide open for them.
  19. Quite the rant. Feel better?
  20. What problems have Muslims caused in Canada? They have been here for decades, fitting in quite nicely as far as I can tell.
  21. I don't think I misunderstood at all. Actual, real, practicing Muslims and Imams are condemning attacks based on what is in the Koran; there are many verses which specifically condemn murder and rape and oppression. There are also verses that specifically tell Muslims to allow people to practice their religion and to obey the laws of the land in which they live. Why should they not use those verses to support their message that violence is unacceptable? Why do you, a Western woman with no knowledge of Islam beyond that which she's picked up from anti-Muslim sources, think she can declare that Muslims have no Koranic basis for condemning violence?
  22. Yes I do. By the way, Christians in the region tend to hold similar views as Muslims. A Egyptian Coptic Christian will be more compatible with an Egyptian Muslim than a Western Christian. As far as I have been able to determine, only in the death penalty for apostates do Muslims and Christians differ. Christians impose FGM at almost the same rate as Muslims. They disapprove of homosexuals, and think death is a suitable punishment. They also carry out honor killings.
  23. And yet they seem to do do quite regularly. For starters, check out Muslims Condemn. Muslims Condemn was originally a Google spreadsheet containing a 712-page list of Muslims condemning things with sources produced by Heraa Hashmi, a 19-year-old American Muslim student at the University of Colorado. ---------- Isis condemned by 300 Austrian Muslim imams who sign declaration against 'extremism, violence and terror' ------------ A common criticism of Muslims globally is that they remain silent, and therefore are essentially complicit, in the face of violence, extremism, and terrorism in the name of Islam. ......Although large news networks seldom carry these Muslim voices of peace, a simple search will turn up all manner of condemnations of those whose actions tarnish the image and teachings of Islam. Below, we offer only the tip of the iceberg of Muslims worldwide speaking out against violence and extremism -------------- Islamic Statements Against Terrorism --------------- 70,000 Clerics Issue Fatwas Against Terror --------------- These are just a few examples found in a 15 second Google search. Clearly, Muslims condemn the violence of ISIS and terrorists. Anyone who continues to insist otherwise is willfully ignorant.
  24. Seems to me that if people speak out in public, even to the PM, they are not guaranteed to be free of consequences, including being thought racist. Having said that, Trudeau certainly could, and should, have responded with more patience. Don't know about her removal by police. If she was really disruptive I would ecpect that would happen. But I haven't watched any video of that event, so can't give an opinion.
  25. Oops, my bad. I had included Canada in my search terms, and assumed all links spoke to Canadian policies.
