  1. Indeed - freedom of speech to campaign for the destruction of Jews and non-Muslims. I think ISIS and neo-Nazis could support that wholeheartedly. I don't entirely disagree that limiting the expression of ideas is a slippery slope to start down. On the other hand, we've also seen that people are not equipped to examine ideas critically. Flat-earthers, anti-vaccers and religious people are proof.
  2. So ISIS and Nazi ideology should be freely disseminated in society? Is that your opinion?
  3. Canada scores higher than US for freedom, at 99 vs. 86. States has been giving up freedom for security since 9/11. Link.
  4. Would it be acceptable to bring an ISIS flag to a rally?
  5. Doesn't context matter too? If someone flies a swastika in India, it may be seen as a symbol of good luck and prosperity, in Isreal an overt statement of an intent/desire to exterminate Jews. In the West, our understanding of the swastika is closer to Isreal's context than India's. I don't see how it's any less of a threat, to Jews especially, than saying "I want to kill Jews".
  6. I can't recall any time that right wingers around here have ever unconditionally denounced right wing terrorism. Yet they demand that every member of every other group that has extremists must denounce that violence. So hypocritical.
  7. Well I don't agree with the way you select who you'll support either, since it appears to be based on outrage and emotion rather than thoughtful contemplation, so I guess we're even. Lucky we live in a country where we can vote our preference, even if other people disagree with our.choices and our reasons. Good luck to your candidate, whoever that is, in October.
  8. Yup I agree. At the same time "statistics" tell us that they are increasing across the States and Canada. If I can say "antifa exists and should not engage in violence", why can't right wingers on this thread say "right-wing extremists exist and should not engage in violence" instead of claiming they don't really exist?
  9. What has that to do with negative income and mountains of cash kept out of circulation by the rich? Anyway, I just responded to your ridiculous assertion on the other thread re: white supremacists barely existing. You are now about as credible as taxpayer and are joining him on my "ignore the idiots" list.
  10. Right. So the guy living next door to me, spouting Right Supremacy rhetoric, calling us race traitors, threatening my neighbors implicitly and explicitly, physically attacking my partner and a pregnant woman, using his vehicle to run a "race traitor" council member and his friends who "accidentally" did hit two people - the very same people this asshole WS had already threatened - with his car - are "so rare in Canada". As the article from ADL says, violence by antifa is counter productive, but the violence from extremist right-wing groups is more prevalent and has killed or injured more people than left wing or antifa. To deny this is to deny reality.
  11. They all promise the moon and deliver the dregs. They all lie and blame the other party. He's no different than any other leader that way. But yeah, he's arrogant for sure. Also stubborn and maybe not the brightest. Overall I do believe in the Liberal philosophy of inclusiveness and helping the less fortunate. I'm not a fan of the Conservative idea that less taxes is better for the economy, trickle down economics have been a massive failure, to the point where the richest in the world sit in so much cash that negative interest rates are becoming a thing. I'm not a fan of Conservative "concerns" over immigration, when immigration is what built this country. And I was pretty annoyed when Scheer and the Conservatives supported and repeated the myth that the non-binding UN Migration Pact was an attack on Canada's sovereignty. No party has the high ground here so my only option is to select the one I think will be best for Canada overall, even though it has or will have warts.
  12. Outside my front gate this morning:

Yup a wedding.  About 50 people milling about, ceremony around 11 am, food served, cleaned up and everyone gone by 1:30 PM.  Cheap venue, I think it was free.   :)

  13. I guess I just don't agree that he's "taken a shit on your door step, lite it on fire, and Now your standing there in ankle deep burning shit and Justin is giving you the finger". That sounds like hyperbolic partisanship BS to me. I don't like some of the things Liberals/JT have done, but I do like some other things they've done. I am wary of Scheer because of how I see right-wing climate change denial and right-wing extremism has been developing. I may be wrong on that count, but one has to decide these things for themselves, even if.they're wrong sometimes. I would be a lot more comforrable if someone like Michael Chong had been chosen conservative leader. I think this is better than knowing absolutley for certain who one is going to vote for, election after election after election. He, his party and a significant portion of his supporters would have to downplay climate change, downplay right-wing extremism, and be supportive of preventing abortion access for women.
  14. Here is what ADL says about Antifa: Antifa is not a unified group; it is loose collection of local/regional groups and individuals. Their presence at a protest is intended to intimidate and dissuade racists, but the use of violent measures by some antifa against their adversaries can create a vicious, self-defeating cycle of attacks, counter-attacks and blame. This is why most established civil rights organizations criticize antifa tactics as dangerous and counterproductive. That said, it is important to reject attempts to claim equivalence between the antifa and the white supremacist groups they oppose. The antifa reject racism but use unacceptable tactics. White supremacists use even more extreme violence to spread their ideologies of hate, to intimidate ethnic minorities, and undermine democratic norms. Right-wing extremists have been one of the largest and most consistent sources of domestic terror incidents in the United States for many years; they have murdered hundreds of people in this country over the last ten years alone.
  15. They would only need to follow far-right activities to know where to show up. It seems to be more organic than organized. I think @bcsapper's football hooligan comparison is apt.
  16. Trump has mentioned making anti-fa a terror organization. An opinion I have come across is that because anti-fa isn't an organization, but rather people who share an idea, naming anti-fa a terror organization is a way to target left-wing people who openly oppose the current government. Is this opinion Credible or Conspiritard?
  17. Dunno about Portland, but in Canada you can't. The extremist right-wing neighbour only had to mime shooting someone to have charges of death threats successfully used against him.
  18. In a letter to the head of Iran's Football Federation in June the president of FIFA demanded to be informed of the "concrete steps" the Iranian government would be taking to lift its ban on women entering stadiums by September. It'd be nice if FIFA refused to let Iran participate till it lifted its ridiculous ban. But FIFA isn't really famous for its social conscience.
  19. My dog was born in Egypt, rescued by my sister, and she brought him to Canada for me. As a result I donate to and follow ESMA, and see how the government and most of the people treat dogs and other animals. There serms to be nothing in Islam that inspires people to treat animals humanely.
  20. Steel workers in Pennsylvania told:  Attend Trump Rally or forfeit pay.

That's one way to look like you have supporters.

Equally as wrong, if she was expected to look like she supported him.  If she was some kind of staff at the event, that would be different.

Yeah, Shell Oil and the Union leaders who thought it was ok to 'force' people to attend a political event = pricks.  A political leader (Trump or Trudeau) who is willing to accept such coercion = pricks.

      No...she wasn't staff at the event...lol.

The unions onside with Trump, that's the Democrats former base now in the pocket of the GOP.

The Democrats got the screeching trannies and commies,  and that's about it, this is going to be a walkover for the teflon Don.

  21. Someone was wondering about a 10-year-ban for companies convicted of corruption, saying they couldn't find any information. I found some information and posted it, along with the information that it wasn't all about JT "not following the law". Despite the desperation of partisans (of any stripe) to want to pretend that their own side has never done anything wrong, incoming governments are affected by what previous governments have done, at least for the first year or so. I intend to, though I'm not voting for Scheer or Bernier. That leaves me May, Singh or Trudeau. I'd be fine with a minority gov, either Conservatives or Liberals, this time around, Liberals need some humility and I don't want Conservatives to have unfettered power - history does suggest there are advantages to minority governments. If only Michael Chong had been elected leader of Conservatives; I very likely have voted for him last time and potentially this time.
  22. Dogs (and other animals) in Muslim majority countries are treated horrifically, in part at least because of the teachings of Islam. If dogs are 'impure', then it's a lot easier to beat and torture them for sport, tie them up outside on roofs and balconies, and neglect them to a slow and painful death, or just kill them outright. Western countries at least make some attempt to treat animals humanely, even if they often fall short.
  23. Here's an article from December 2015 about the 10-year-ban against SNC and the agreement they made with the government to avoid the ban. The negotiations for this agreement started well before the Liberals were elected, since JT took office not even a month before this story came out and governments just do not move that fast. Also from the article: The previous Conservative government softened its tough anti-corruption rules for companies doing business with Ottawa in July in the face of intense criticism from business groups. The most contentious part of the rules was an inflexible 10-year contracting ban on companies charged with a long list of offences anywhere in the world, which was reduced to five years. Under the new rules, the government can also suspend a company from doing business for 18 months if it is charged with various corruption-related offences. This can occur even before a company is convicted.
  24. When I go shopping, everything I buy is labelled telling me where it came from. This makes it remarkably easy for me to either support or boycott certain companies or countries. This is considered information I'm entitled to as a consumer, but now because Isreal is involved its "anti-semitic"? Give me a break.
  25. Given the way many people think they can mind-read and make assumptions about motive, I would say this isn't really reassuring. Officially, I oppose Israel's continued annexation of Palestinian land. I have nothing against Jews, and I have no problem with Isreal having their own land. But they should stick to their borders, defending if need be, but not moving settlers into land already populated by Palestinians. For that reason, I would support BDS.
