I am utterly disgusted with MP compensation
nittanylionstorm07 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Because they would have tons of investments set aside that they could live off of. Billionaires and multimillionaires don't usually make hundreds of millions/year.... most of their monetary value is held in investments. -

May I ask you why the beep you are comparing the salaries of the Canadian Parliament to that of the Maine State Legislature? This is not even including the fact that most state legislatures are part-time. Actually it'd be the other way around... the only people that would run for office would be those that already have tons of cash set aside. No one could live on $13,000/yr. You would always have rich people, and you would never have any common middle-class people. -
Who cares about Halliburton? They and their ilk are a huge part of the problem. At its current state, our world is not able to sustain free trade. There is way, way too much monetary inequality. The wish of international free trade is equivalent to the wish of many communists in the former Soviet Union... hoping for an ideal economic society before society can even handle it. It will result in massive crises, mostly in industrialized nations... then the developing nations relying on the industrialized nations for progress will fall after the industrialized nations fall because they held too much debt.

Start with the military, stop funding defense contractors, end oil subsidies, rearrange social welfare programs, and raise taxes across the board would be a great way to reduce debt. Unfortunately the populace as a whole here wants to have our cake and eat it too. I never, ever want to hear "cut taxes!!" again.

BLOC to seek Party Status
nittanylionstorm07 replied to Dave_ON's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not gonna happen. -
I say let them go ahead. Let all of the Conservatives and their supporters not fill out the census forms. Then let's see how much they like having all of the funding going to NDP and Liberal areas.

Justin Trudeau = Edward Kennedy
nittanylionstorm07 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This would be like a Tory supporter comparing Stephen Harper to Ronald Reagan. Awful comparison. -
Here we go again. Since some socialists support the NDP, the NDP must be filled with them and want to turn Canada into a Socialist country. Similarly, since there are Christian fascists who support the Tories, the Tories must want to turn Canada into a Christian fascist country.
-
Funny since the NDP is in no way Communist, and China is Communist in name only. Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

I hope he is fined.

Seriously? That's your reasoning? Okay, I guess everyone in Alberta who voted for a conservative in order to protect oil sands revenue really wants Alberta to separate from Canada.
-
Same thing happened in the US last year. People of his ilk were blaming Obama for making them "fill out this damn census thing". Sigh.

Who really isn't "paying their fair share"?
nittanylionstorm07 replied to CPCFTW's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I didn't even say anything about unions... why even mention them? I was responding to the OP (as well as numerous other Conservatives I've seen) blaming public servants for being tax burdens because their salaries come from taxes. -
NDP to Remove Ruth-Ellen Brosseau From Office?

Sad attempt at a power grab. -

What is with conservatives in Canada and blaming public servants for being "tax burdens"!? Okay, should they not get paid? Good luck getting decent police, fire, and military protection after that. Not to mention decent roads, healthcare, and education. -
NDP to Remove Ruth-Ellen Brosseau From Office?
nittanylionstorm07 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
...and the Liberals. I do find it odd that she hasn't been able to be contacted, though I'm sure party offices told her not to answer phone calls from the media until she gets a little more training. Regardless, with the amount of new MPs the NDP elected, there are bound to be 1-3 bad apples in it. That's just life. I know for a fact that you can't tell me that in the massive PC and Liberal seat increases that there weren't similar issues with freshmen MPs there. -
