"Since 2003, countries that sent troops to Iraq are being targeted by Islamists" I wish to correct an error I made above concerning the Australians who have not yet been attacked on their own soil because of their involvement in Iraq. But they probably will be before too long. Tit for tat you know. And to suggest that violence only comes from Muslims is absurd. Anyone ever hear of the Oakloahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh? 168 Americans killed by a good ole American Christian boy!

I think that is a reasonable analysis and conclusion. What does the war in Iraq have to do with in any way apprehending the perpetrators of 9/11? It is really hard for it to sink in but the answer is nothing. ZILCH! It was a diversion because it's the crude dude!

The tide has turned and it is curtains for Rove. He's done like dinner and now it's just a matter of time for Fitzgerald to mop up the final details. But the much broader and more significant picture is that this is finally going to seriously undermine Bush while his popularity is at an all time low. The Democrats must be looking at the 2006 elections with renewed energy & vigor led on by none other than Senator Hilary Clinton. It doesn't look good for Karl Rove

I agree.

How many Iraqi have died in Iraq at the hands of US and the UK bombs since the Allies invaded their country? And you're worried about a few Londoners and a few New Yorkers. Doncha think we need to put things in perspective here?

When I lived in Toronto there was a video rental store that only had foreign films. I rarely rented videos from any place else. Yes Hollywood is in crisis at the movie theatres at least - partly to do with the overpriced snack bars, but mainly the quality of the movies, although I do like some American stuff like what comes out of Sundance.

Who will replace PM Martin as Liberal leader?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Most Canadians agree with you, I think. -
Good suggestion - how's his French?

How many Reichs were there?

A corporate free media outlet, IWT, is starting to broadcast in 2007. Until then you will probably have to wait.

Economy Hot & Unemployment 30 Yr. Low
mirror replied to THELIBERAL's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree. The projections I have seen for Canada's oil & gas production - SECOND ONLY TO SAUDIA ARABIA - are incredibly bullish. -
Those are sidebar issues which muddy the waters. This is about Iraq and the retaliation against the US and its allies.

If you think doing what's right means doing what the US, the UK, the Australians, and the Spainards, the people that have been attacked, have done in Iraq, what's the point in further dialogue?

West in denial about terror attacks This above article is what I really started this thread for not to attack someone wearing the star of david, etc. And of course there is absolutely a direct relationship between the invasion of Iraq and these attacks. Really we need to take our collective heads out of the sand here. Canadians are going to have to be very vigilant about reckless and provocative comments from our leaders including military leaders like the one we heard last nite from Gen Hillier. I agree totally with the message bourque had on his wrebsite last evening: "Memo to Hillier: Shup Up!"

I agree with you but it is not quite so simple and we need the religious communities to get actively involved in providing solutions here.
-
We have enough differences amongst each other with skin colour which we can't do anything about. We don't need to escalate these differences with things we can do something about. No one is saying not to practice your religion however do it privately as religion has become so divisive in our society and it is being used to perpetuate violence. Maybe when the religious communities start speaking out, and acting forcefully to stop the violence there might be more tolerance for religion. Right now I would fathom a guess that religions are now perceived like the plagues.

Contrast Jack Layton's approach to First Nations' issues compared to Mike Harris: Before clash, Harris assailed OPP, panel told It never fails - we elected Mulroney twice and Harris twice. Unbelievable. Who was who said never underestimate the stupidity of the Canadian voter?

Native housing appalls Layton Well at least one federalist leader in Canada cares about those less fotunate than most of the rest of us. We have plenty of material resources in Canada to ensure that all our citizens have proper food, clothing, shelter, and health care.
-
I agree we should continue to live our normal lives but I also don't agree that Canada's top military leader should be trying to provoke people. He should know better than that and perhaps PM Martin should consider replacing him: London attacks underscore Canada's need to be in Afghanistan: Hillier

Liberals itching to go to the polls this Fall?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Whenever the polls are favourable to the Liberals and show that they have a shot at a majority government, do you not think that people like Scott Reid will be sending Martin running to the GG's residence to drop the writ? Come on now, we are dealing with people who have only one mission in life - controlling the government., and the issuing of government contracts, and nothing, and I mean nothing else, matters. What other reason would there be for these people to go into politics? -
I have to admit they initially made a mess with weapon control enforcement particularly the weapon registry costs, although now apparently it seems to be working fine. At least having Sheila Fraser helps now if only we could get some decent people looking after conflict of interests, and some decent whistle blower and freedom of information legislation. Apart from personal privacy issues everything about our governments should be above board and open to the public including budgets cabinet meetings, etc. Basically secrets are unhealthy whether they be between couples, families, or governments.
-
I think there are going to have to be some changes both within our minority communities and the majority communities as well. Canada has prided itself on its tolerance and that is good however there are limits. We need to reaccess some things in our country: 1 religious minorities will need to report to the authorities immediately any discussion of inciting violence within their communities. 2 any religious leader who preaches violence goes and the institutional assets should be seized 3 all private schools need to be closed and all children need to go to the public school system 4 all wearing of religious artifacts, turbins, daggers, crosses, stars of david, etc. should be banned from public places and used only within one's home or one's place of worship. 5 newcomers to Canada should be forced to leave their former customs and grievances where they came from, and to integrate into our society and adopt Canadian ideas of tolerance and respect for others as much as possible. And I say these things as a person who attends church on a regular basis. The reason I suggest these changes is that we need to abolish divisiveness within our society as much as possible.

I have been wondering what attempts at diversion Bush would attempt to save his sorry buddy Rove's ass. Here it comes: "China is prepared to use N-weapons against the USA". Only now this treason story has taken over Washington, and finally the Washington press corps. It has gone too far and only more bad news for Bush/Rove will be coming down the pipes from here on in with this issue. I wonder what it is going to end being called: Karlgate? Plamegate?

This is typical of conservative slander of the PM and the Liberals. Are you suggesting that everyone accused of doing something wrong must be guilty because only the guilty claim to be innocent? At least Ebbers was entitled to the presumption of innocent until proven guilty. Furthermore, he was only found guilty because their was concrete testimony from people he worked closely with and documentation that proved that his statements were lies. There is no such evidence in the case of Martin. If anything the fact that no concrete evidence has come out linking Martin to the sponsorship scandal suggests that there is none. Too many people would benefit if he could be taken down - it would not surprise me if the Conservatives try to manufacture evidence - just like the Grewal tapes - if the Gomery report is not to their liking. That said, unlike some people, I will keep an open mind and I will reserve my final judgment until the Gomery report comes out. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why do you want to allow the benefit of doubt to Liberal Martin but not to Conservative Grewal. It sounds like you want to have your Liberal cake and eat it too.

Planes are crashed into a building in New York City so AFTER THE ATTACK Canada pumps money into airport security - don't you feel safer now? London's public transportation system is bombed so AFTER THE ATTACK Canada is now going to pump money into the TTC and other public transportation security - won't you feel safer soon? Do you see a pattern here? Do you think this in any way addresses the problems we as a global society are encountering?
