  1. How many of you remember Martin's words prior to the last election about how he was going to address the democratic deficit, etc.? Well Canadians are still waiting for some concrete action from this man. The following website reported by Paul Wells says it all: Government of Canada Democratic Reform Website Let's get us a prime minister who is actually going to follow through on his or her campaign promises.
  2. I remember when the Canadian supporters of Bush invading Iraq kept insisting that the world would be a safer place with Saddam locked up. Looking back now are you prepared to admit you made a serious mistake in judgement? I mean WMD my ass! There is nothing wrong with making errors. After all to err is human. It is just that when the eraser wears out before the lead in your pencil you are overdoing it. PM Chretien's foreign policy was very wise to kept us out of that Iraqi quagmire. At the moment Canada's foreign affairs is reasonably on track. I'm not so sure however that PM Martin has the wisdom to do likewise. What say you?
  3. tfb Good of you to bring this up. Rove is just a symptom here, not the disease. The disease was going to war over the pretext of WMD in the first place. Finally the US media are beginning to wake up, but it is too late for the people of Iraq. Perhaps and hopefully other nations will be spared the American bullies war machine.
  4. What do you do when a biker gang moves in next door? Think about it!
  5. I have no idea how you interpreted that article as being a plug for the Liberal party. Do you not think you can like anything Canadian without being a Liberal supporter? And for the record most Canadians recognize Tommy Douglas and the CCF as the founders of medicare. My hunch if Canadians were offered a chance to put medicare under Ottaw's roof: 80% would be in favour.
  6. We normally get all the worst news from our MSM so it was refreshing this morning to get up and read this fabulous news about Canada's Health Care system. This certainly represents the experiences that my family has received as well. Canada's has a superb Health Care system however it is constantly under threat from one or more of our short-sighted provincial governments, and some of these right wing lobby groups such as the Fraser Institute who front for those US private insurance companies. Isn't it about time we removed this threat once and for all and put the responsibility for Canada's Health Care system back where it belongs, in Ottawa? Clarkson's speedy care a heartbeat away for all
  7. BBM....good luck with your event. The two reasons I won't be there are, one, I'm not in your area, and two, I'm a vegetarian.
  8. Probably another trial balloon to test the waters, but Liberals have been talking to reporters this week, suggesting that they may want an election sooner rather than later, possibly this Fall. If we were to go to the polls this autumn, what would your forecast in seats be for the different parties? Here's mine: Bloc: 60 seats Cons: 90 seats Libs: 130 seats New Democrats: 28 seats Liberals mull bringing themselves down
  9. I believe there are a number of people in Canada who not only feel the US deserved 911 but are heartily glad it happened and wish it would happen again. Some of them, perhaps, on this web site. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Strange then, isn't it, that we haven't heard from them?
  10. I did not say that the London suicide bombers are heroes, but violence begets violence. The connection between those London bombs last week and the UK's behaviour in Iraq is quite clear. Britain has now paid a price for invading and dropping their bombs in Iraq.
  11. Muddyw67.........thanks for sharing your perceptions, and thanks to the others that encouraged you to stick around as well, and for the humour, even though some of us didn't even get it. I tend to agree with some of the things you have to say and hope that you will come back. We need more moderates such as yourself around here to keep the extremists in check. Someone mentioned NEP and how that was divisive, at least in Alberta. Well with the projections that I have seen for the future concerning Alberta's wealth that will be generated in the oil industry, we ain't seen nothing yet, as Ottawa will be reaching out for a good portion of it. Then the shit will really hit the fan, but greed has to be challenged, whether it is in a Toronto or a Calgary boardroom. Which is part of Christ's message about sharing the wealth, I believe. Please reconsider.
  12. Just out of curiosity how much is our GG paid, and how much do you think our GG should be paid?
  13. IMR I don't appreciate that you would take a quote of mine like the one below and interpret it to create an impression that I am suggesting something such as "They deserved it!", which is so far from the truth, or so distant from what I said, as possible. My goodness these were innocent people, civilians going to work at rush hour, just like those equally important innocent children being killed on the streets of Bagdad every day. Who in their right mind would make such a statement? Let's make a deal: you say and interpret what you have to say for you, and I will say and interpret what I have to say for me. Now I know it is rather complicated, and very difficult to grasp for some people, so I am going to repeat what I said very slowly. Some Canadians, probably 60-70%, I just don't know the percentage, believe that you reap what you sow in foreign affairs. Just like farming - you reap what you sow, putting aside natural complications like the weather, etc. So if the UK and the US are dropping bombs in Iraq, then someone with some kind of connection to Iraq, whether it be same culture, same language, same religion, same geography, or same belief system, is going to try and retaliate, and I believe that is what happened last week in London. Did the civilians in London deserve that? OF COURSE NOT. Do the children in Iraq deserve to be bombed? OF COURSE NOT. I don't think I can make it any clearer than that.
  14. If you think we have problems now in our multicultural societies read this and weep: British bombers: Worst fears true Times are a changing.
  15. Are you familiar with all the rules concerning making donations to a politician in Canadian federal politics. If you are not, and it doesn't sound like you are, you might want to be careful about your accusations. Did you listen to Stephen Harper's comments yesterday concerning these accusations? There are usually many sides to every issue.
  16. I believe that is a distortion of what at least some Canadians believe. Some Canadians ( I don't know how high the percentage is), believe that UK & US foreign policies and actions lead to these kind of reprisals. And of course they do. Perhaps CSIS would be more effective if their staff were more representative of the people who are presently living in Canada. Same for the local police forces. Perhaps it hasn't clued in yet to people in general, but Britain was attacked from within, not from an outside group, but by British nationals.
  17. It appears that the people who did the recent London bombings are British nationals. In other words these criminals may be living amongst us? How is border security or transportation security going to protect us from Canadian citizens? The pluck deficit And the reply: We have a winner!
  18. I am not worried about Canada being attacked and I don't want any more money wasted on security. We already spend too much on that.. Seriously folks, who is going to attack Canada and why would Canada be attacked?
  19. Who do you suggest be given that role and why do you feel it is so important? Having said that, the only reason AM is DPM is because she is one of two Liberals elected in Alberta, and Kilgor has proven himself to be a loose canon at least as far as the Liberals are concerned..
  20. Perhaps the money was given to Grewal prior to the election writ being dropped then apparently Elections Canada has no say in the matter. Let's try and respect the moderator's request to not make blanket insults, and not tar the whole human race with such comments as "ethnics", all Liberals, all Conservatives, etc. when we make derogatory statements about someone's behaviour.
  21. So things are finally beginning to change on the Rove front. The corporate media have finally begun to take an interest in the case, and for 2 days now the White House has refused to answer over 100 reporter questions. Ridiculous. What a sad representative of democracy America has turned out to be.
  22. Marc Garneau is probably the best bet to replace PM Martin especially if it is sooner rather than later.
  23. August Bob Rae is probably going to get the posting seeing as he has been trying to distance himself from his New Democratic past.
  24. Blair's Rising Star Runs Into a Treacherous Future I don't know what politiical plans Tony Blair had for his future but he can put all of them on hold now. His policies have miserly failed the British people and he should now resign.
