I forgot. Yup, it's only Bush & Blair who tell the truth. All the rest of the people on our planet are liars.

The Iraqi war is directly responsible for the July 21 London attacks. Tony Blair needs to fess up and to start to tell the truth about the war. 'Confession' lifts lid on London bomb plot Bomb suspect: 'No al Qaeda links'

So, it appears they can't lower their guard yet in the UK. Have you heard about all the Al Quaeda websites that have been dismantled over the past few weeks? No one is claiming responsibility for it. I wonder why! Third terror cell on loose

I'm not sure if I get your point here. Are you saying that the British are going to be more humane than the Americans with whichever techniques they use to break the bombers down and get them to talk? The first article is an opinion of what the Brits should do, not what they are doing. It's wishful speculation and isn't backed up by anything. I can imagine that if the bombers continue to carry out attacks, and these guys continue not talking, the techniques used will become harsher. I'd also like to reiterate, for the record, that nudity and humiliation and threatening dogs aren't torture in the same way that hacking off fingers and pushing people off of buildings are. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually the Brits record all their interviews with the prisoners. A little bit of information for you, so stop destorting things about which you have no idea what you are talking about. Even a former president of the US has condemed the American treatment of the US prisoners. But of course you know better!

I can see how we have spent $10 billion on new security measures. Think about what has happened in Canada alone since 9/11. Take all the increased security costs at our airports, at the ports, CSIS expansion, RCMP expansion, police expansion, extra security now at all public buildings, at our borders, immigration procedures, shopping centres, cameras, cameras everywhere, etc. In some ways I am surprised it is only $10 billion. Insanity is what it is. Feel good stuff that was all unnecessary until Hillier opened his mouth. Canada might want to consider pulling out of Afghanstan though. Kyoto was the beginning, a basic first step to address global warming, that the entire scientific community, apart from a few corporate stooges, supported. Oh yea, George Bush finally agreed there is global warming this year. What brillance! Wow! -

All this hype about terrorism from the politicians, the military, the police, the security industry and the media is scaring people. The reporting of the attacks in London recently make it sound like there are bombs going off every minute. Nonsense. Do you remember the FLQ in Quebec? We brought in the War Measures Act, terrifying everyone, rounded up hundreds of innocent people in the middle of the night, because of a few criminals, which you could count on your hands. I certainly respect the way the British are approaching their interrogations compared to the American approach. All interviews with the prisoners are tape recorded in the UK. Who benefits from all this terrorism hype? The government and/or politicians The security industry The police The media The criminals Who loses? The citizens -

Right wingers always show their true colours. When they lose the debates as they invariably do, they begin to start with their extremist comments like commie, communism, etc. Grow up! -

Typical military mindset. Let's fight everybody. Let's nuke em, etc. Stop living in, and spreading, fear. As the scientists say, pour the money into disease precention and fighting polution and fewer people will die, than with pouring all these resources into fighting terrorism. -
So we have spent $10 billion so far fighting terrorism in Canada while 10,000 Canadians have died from pollution and disease. Who actually benefits from this massive security expenditure? The Canadian government politicians, the security industry, the US, and the terrorists. Who doesn't benefit is the Canadian people. Isn't it time for Canada to switch priorities? Anti-terror money would be better spent on smog, disease: critics

Oh those poor folks in Oz, what discrimination the poor smokers must feel. Even on Bondi beach. Maybe all that smoke was impacting on the view. There is some amazin' scenery at that beach: Australian smokers will be extinct by 2030, researchers say

Quite the contrast between this: Subtle techniques are now needed to nail suspects and this: Wash. Post: "Truth about Abu Ghraib"

I'd be much more likely to accept what you are saying if the US showed anywhere the same interest in dictatorship countries where there were no resources fro the Americans to exploit. At least be honest in why the US is really there.

This two tier crap has been spewing of the neocon discredited Fraser Institute for years. Doctors and nurses are educated paid for mainly by the public tax system. Why should the public train these people and then have them go and work in the private sector for the rich, when the middle class and the poor have paid for their training, through our taxes going to fund universities? All two tier will lead to is the draining of all the best staff from our publically funded system. -
Everyone knows by now that the Iraq invasion had not a damn thing to do with the 9/11 attacks. Instead of focusing on Al Quaeda, we have lost valuable time in Iraq. As a result these bombers have had a change to regroup, and viola, the recent London bombings.
-
On and on it goes. Even the British police experts acknowlege that the British presence in Iraq contributed to the London bombings.

Depressing summer for Martin Liberals
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well Liberal party history has been that they alternate between a franco & an anglo. At some point I suppose that may change but right now with the possibility of threat of Quebec separation looming over our heads once again, this may not be the right time for the Liberals, in their ruling wisdom, to change. This whole separation thing makes me kind of sad to know that the Liberals have given ammunition to the separatists, and revived the issue. I thought we had put it to bed. The one saving grace, if there is one, is that hopefully most Quebeckers love Canada, and can see that our country is comprised of more than just the Liberal party. -

Something like that. I think a lot of Liberals, at least Martin Liberals, think McKenna is the God that is going to lead them to the promoised land. But they need a francophone from Quebec now to lead them, me thinks. Canada is starting to skate on thin ice again it seems, with nationalism raising its ugly head once again in Quebec. -
