The Globe this morning is suggesting that the next GG will be a francophone woman from Quebec to help offset the Bloc's popularity. Too bad this has to be politicized however better to live in the real world.

Maybe the British have made a breakthrough in their search to find the July 21 people who attempted to bomb the London transportation system. Let's hope so: Anti-terror police hold four men

This seems to be most unusual however I haven't followed British politics that much. Anyway good on Ms Blair for speaking out on behalf of human rights. We had our our own loss of civil rights in Canada when the War Measures Act in 1970 was brought in by Trudeau, perhaps the biggest blunder he ever made. It was overkill. That is why everything we do has to be measured very carefully so that we do not over react. Blair v Blair in the War Against Terror

Maybe a lot more of us will be riding bicycles in the future.

Toyota creates more problems for Conservatives

For every horror story about Canada's medicare system there are a million good ones, so let's not overdo it. It is obvious there is an orchestrated campaign going on for private funded health care in Canada but Canadians are a bit smarter than that, and know all the terrible pitfalls that would encur. We are already having enough problems with contracting out which is leading to poor quality work and care for the patients. -
Poisoning people with vehicle fumes is still socially acceptable, smoking no longer is. I don't know where you live but where I live there is no smoking in any private business, nor public building, and that includes bars. It is game over for the smokers I'm afraid.

I see she has not lost any of her vim and vigour. I basically agree with Ms Parrish's comments here, as I think she is correct.

Not me. Why do you think it is inevitable that it will come to Canada? Do you have a crystal ball? -
Controversial ex-Liberal MP wants to return to the fold. Recently she has come out swinging against comments made by outspoken Canadian military head honcho Hillier. Sometimes it is very difficult to understand what the Liberals really stand for, but I suppose that's why they just keep on winning like the energizer bunny that keeps on going. Parrish, Liberals may kiss and make up

Actually I believe in capital punishment for smokers as they are killing us with their secondhand smoke.

Well, I am glad that he survived, which is the main thing. I'm not sure what your point is though. -
Your making a very valid reason why smoking is getting banned pretty much everywhere. People in the 21st century need to be able to go to work, a bar, basically anywhere, and be in a smokefree place, and the smokers need to butt out. Smokefree is now a right in Canada, not a privilege.

I am going to stick to my initial hunch that they were not suicide bombers: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/27/international/europe/27suicide.html?hp&ex=1122436800&en=d7cf626e3bc6e8c9&ei=5094&partner=homepage' target='_blank'>

I think most people who are born in the USA reside in the USA, just like most people born in Canada reside in Canada. Too bad you seem to be so down on this wonderful country called Canada. Maybe you need a vacation to relax and enjoy this superb land. -
Ready to strike again Well there is no doubt a massive hunt is underway in Britain to apprehend the culprits. I sure hope the bobbies can catch these suckers before any more damage is done. What a tough job. It must be like looking for a needle in the haystack. Do you think they will catch them before there are any more innocent people are killed? And if so, how you do think they will nab them? I haven't heard of any rewards being offered - perhaps they don't want to use that approach.

I remember attending a speech by Gwynne Dyer shortly before the US invaded Iraq. At the time he said the US will blindly go ahead having no idea what they are getting into, and then when they have a quagmire situation, the rest of the world will have to bail them out. Over two years later there is nothing I disagree with that Dyer said.

Everyone offered money, the difference was Canada's social services. Why do you have difficulty realizing that there are tremendous advantages to locating in Canada Of course you know better than Krugman. After all he is only a world renowned economist, the 1991 winner of the very prestigious John Bates Clark Medal from the American Economic Association. -
Any animal that can harm humans is not suitable for urban life. Most dogs belong in the country.

Excellent observation! Oh please. It's just a little taste of your own medicine. The left loves to throw around the term fascist when describing conservatives. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Again Argus, great observation! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wrong. These are inappropriate comments for this forum. The moderator has requested that we do not throw around terms like FASCIST, COMMIE, etc. I think we all need to respect his request otherwise things will seriously degenerate.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Did you even read the article? The reality is most Americans would give their right`arm to have a health care system like ours. And the proof is in the pudding by Toyota's move to Canada over the financial inducements from the US. -
Here is an interesting perspective about our Al Quaeda theories. Now before you rush off too quickly to condemn Parris please remember he is writing this article in the London Times, considered one of the most prestigious daily newspapers in the world by some. I think there is a lot of validity to what he is suggesting. I name the four powers who are behind the al-Qaeda conspiracy

How can you jump to conclusions when the facts have not yet been made public? Or are you clairvoyant, eh! My understanding is that the Bobbies had changed to a "shoot-to-kill" policy but that they had not yet notified the British public. A slight oversight perhaps. Let's wait until the evidence is in before we exonerate anyone or blame anyone. -
Strangest survey I have ever participated in - just don't get it!

Do you have any idea how much it costs for our social services (welfare) departments and our employment insurance departments annually to operate trying to police its clients?
