  1. Peter gave an opinion, then I gave an opinion - is there something wrong with giving opinions on a forum board? I could look for a cite to prove that fostering works - and works pretty well in Canada, but I won't - mainly because if it didn't work, we'd scrap the system. I'm sure you'd be shocked at the amount of money that is spent on fostering in Canada.
  2. Sure, multiculturalism would be great, so would world peace. History tells us that it will never happen though. Nearly every country in the would has had major groups try to invade...or lets say settle. These groups were either pushed back or if that wasn't possible, they took over and brought their way way of life - either political, legal or religious...whatever. We've seen it everywhere from south africa to north america to australia, Israel etc etc. It's been done with stones, swords, politics (treaties), tanks and money. The fact is; when enough people arrive somewhere, they don't share, they inevitably change society to their world views. Multiculturalism is even a struggle in Quebec and they actually have similar political and religious views as us. In Vancouver, the Chinese are buying that city at a feverish pitch and will soon be the majority (probably in about 10 years). In 20 years from now, Vancouver will be a Chinese city and they couldn't care less about us or multiculturalism. Our politics and laws will change in ways that will isolate us and our belief systems. The evidence is right there for everyone to see. Now, before everyone claims I'm afraid of something or other, or I'm just hateful...no, I'm just able to see the picture before all the dots are connected.
  3. Every...every minority finds a place where there are people of their own culture. Sure, you can find any type of cultural person in any community, but for the most part people stick with their own kind. There are black neighbourhoods, Italian areas, cuban, hispanic, vietnamese, chinese, muslim, jewish even gay communities...you name it. People generally want to be with their own. Go check out any major city. Have a look at Vancouver or Toronto. The Chinese are taking over Vancouver and they'll be quite open about not wanting white people in their neighbourhood. The Chinese don't want multiculturalism, they want the land and they want white people out.
  4. You'll never get the "browning of humanity". While white folks are naive, you can believe that asians and mid easterners aren't. Sure the white race will die, and if you look at birth rates, it won't take 10,000 years. The world will never be multicultural, the muslims and asians will end up fighting for control of the world.
  5. I think that given the option, most people would want to live with those of the same race and/or culture. I had a shawarma yesterday from a Syrian restaurant.
  6. I actually know a great many people who are/were in foster care - they're all better off than they were before. And, to drag her kids through the inevitable displays exactly what kind of mother she is.
  7. Well, I'm glad you asked because...Yes, I'd love to see some vigilante justice done to her.
  8. There are thankfully some issues that most people regardless of political leaning agree on. With the exception of a few morally bankrupt people, agreeing that Karla Homalka is a monster of the worse kind is not a political issue.
  9. Her husband willingly signed up for whatever crap life he has in front of him when he married a rapist and murderer. As for her kids, she/they willingly brought them to a place that they had to know was going to be a hostile environment - a place where these kids will have no friends and repeatedly hear what a heinous murderer their mother is. She shoulda just faded away in the caribbean and hidden her identity from her kids but, as I said, she's also a sociopath.
  10. Hillary has the majority of women obviously and blacks - although that's slipping, but Bernie has the younger voters. Hillary has to be terrified that the young socialists, which there are many, simply reject the idea of voting and don't bother coming out.
  11. The Husband! I'm supposed to feel for that chump? Hardly! Her Kids? Well, Homalka drugged her 14 YO sister so her boyfriend could screw her. Sorry, her kids should be given to foster care!
  12. I feel dirty that I even had to produce it at all. Personally, I'm done with cites.
  13. I'm with WCR on this one. Homelike is a killer - pure and simple. She killed her own sister for heaven's sake. Some think that the video actually shows her doing the killing herself. She's no victim, she's a sociopath and a murderer and deserves no rest.
  14. "The social security reform exercise provoked a plethora of other reform proposals, particularly for separating eligibility for income assistance from provision of disability-related supports and services. During the 1995 provincial election campaign in Ontario, the Conservative party promised that it would act in this regard. As well, the Roeher Institute proposed a national program (provincially administered) that would offset the costs of disability, assure access to disability-related supports, and allow people with disabilities to have the same access to regular social assistance income benefits as other Canadians. In December 1995, a ministerial council on social security reform recommended to provincial/territorial first ministers that they consider the consolidation of income support programs for people with severe disabilities. This single national program would be jointly managed but delivered by the federal government. This proposal was reminiscent of suggestions recently explored by some provinces for implementing a guaranteed annual income (GAI) as a means of removing individuals from the welfare rolls. On the positive side, a GAI would provide more adequate income support, and could improve financial incentives to work if additional earnings were taxed at a lower rate. At the same time, however, a GAI might reinforce the tendency to categorize people with disabilities as "unemployable" and divert resources from programs promoting integration with the economic mainstream. In addition, the income provided by a GAI would likely be too little to meet the needs of those with high disability-related expenses and would not adequately cover the costs of required disability-related supports and services. A concurrent tax reform measure would be required to cover these costs if a federal or provincial GAI were introduced."
  15. My mistake was offhandedly commenting on something (welfare reform) that I figured was common knowledge. I mean, this is a political forum, I woulda guessed that people here would have at least heard of welfare reform and had even a small understanding of the issue.
  16. ^^^WTF - Well go ahead then and don't believe it! As I said, I couldn't give crap if you're aware of Welfare reform and the changes that were made because of it. Our entire system has was overhauled from special needs to fostering to child care and protection to immigration to fraud to social services. There are like 14 different agencies (or so) where before there was just a couple. Point is; using stats from 40 years ago is inaccurate. You guys clearly don't know this! Fair enough! I'm not responsible for how little you know. Believe it - or don't, simple as that! Yes, I sometimes use anecdotes to try and share some real world experiences, unlike some of you shut-ins who rely solely on google for your worldly information. Go ahead and suspend me for whatever you think I did wrong
  17. Squid, I'm telling you what happened in the 90's that changed the way we view and even record welfare, either you can look into it and learn something or you can be an antagonistic smart ass - I couldn't care less...but I know which road you'll take.
  18. You really need proof of welfare reform in BC? WoW, talk about lazy!
  19. Dude, if you don't know about the welfare reform of the mid 90's, i don't know what to say. They split agencies - The Ministry of Social Services created two new agencies - MHR and MCFD, so kids were moved to another agency, Pwd's were transferred (maybe not by agency, but by classification). Some were considered "Human Resources" while other cases were transferred to "MCFD". There were huge changes to "welfare mother fraud" and wait lists for out of province recipients. It was quite a big deal, I'm surprised that you (and WCR) don't remember any of it. Bottom line, welfare cases being lower has nothing to do with good social programs and everything to do with a re shuffling (and catching welfare moms in fraudulent claims). of agencies and classifications. And no, I'm not going to look-up 20 year old articles for you.
  20. Huh! She's comparing stats from 45 years ago. Do you honestly not know the entire structure of how we view and record welfare has changed since then? Really? I'd like to think people here are smarter - i guess not! Back in 1969, even up to the 80's and 90's, most everybody who collected was pretty much considered to be on welfare (social assistance) - and that was that. For reasons that I already mentioned along with avoiding the stigma of being on welfare, many people were placed on disability. Anyone from down syndrome people to those who get depressed over a bad haircut were placed on disability or placed in other outsourced organizations. Even parents who couldn't work due their child's disability was placed in another category (forget the name), but not welfare. Do you really not know any of this? Ha!
  21. I just think she wants to be intellectually honest - and should be. She didn't know how those stats magically came to be, I told her. Sure, one can google a stat and point out that welfare has gone down all over Canada (except Ontario), but the reason is just a re structure of people and sub contracting of some other people, such as those that are now under the watch of CLBC and Comunitas etc. Instead of looking at how welfare recipients are reduced, why not look at the increase of PWD's.
  22. Well, Tim brought up Vancouver and you continued on with that sentiment. I mentioned that the diseased parts of Vancouver are increasing - which is actually on topic. Now, Jacee went completely off the board once again - why? who knows.
  23. Back in the NDP days of BC, I had a sister get shifted from social assistance to a permanent disability (Bipolar), around the same time my other sister who is social worker, had many of her clients get switched over also. Underage people also get shifted into another category now. The moral of the story - and I know you won't believe me because it's anecdotal, is; there are more people than ever on the system, just because they've taken perpetual welfare cases and decided to just give up on asking them to work, doesn't mean there are less welfare cases, it only means that they're getting paid out of a different pocket. It's both a political ploy because the NDP about 6 months later started campaigning that they got the welfare cases down, and also a decision to just reduce the caseloads of social workers and just accept that a certain amount of the population is hopelessly unemployable.
  24. WTF are you talking about?
  25. I was in East Van last summer and was quite surprised at just how big the shitty area has gotten over the last few years. I don't know (and don't care) about whether the safe injection sites are working, but the junkies (or victims of disease) seem to be everywhere.
