  1. Indeed…….Sounds like a sure-fire way to hear a second shot around the World
  2. That is no way certain……..The Ukrainian military also operated the same system…..The rebels could have obtained them from them, stolen them from Ukrainian arsenal or liberated them from one of the various army units that surrendered or switched sides.......... As to need, the Ukrainians have an air force, and have been using it to bomb rebel positions……..The proliferation of SAMs is hardly news……their use by groups like the Mujahideen, or even the threat of their use by groups, like the PIRA, is a deterrent………Going from previous groups armed with MANPADS to more complex systems is only a natural progression.
  3. So, Olivia Chow wants to ban all handguns in the City of Toronto (despite not having the jurisdiction to do so)……..Yet, the girlfriend (Lisa Kirbie) of her campaign manger, Warren Kinsella, is apparently a good shot with a handgun, as such, crazy people should be aware: That sure doesn’t look like a legal shooting range…….
  4. How many lives did they save kicking in doors of homes of High River and searching in closets, under beds and in underpants drawers? Most, if not all of the guns have been returned.........If you stole a car, would you expect the RCMP to let you return it and all would be forgotten? As to being held to account, they will be.........hence the investigation.....none the less, this coupled with many other abuses on the file will likely see the RCMP loose the CFP in the Fall.
  5. I never suggested the RCMP lied on their reports, they quite clearly announced their actions after the fact. Why do you say that? Are you suggesting the RCMP and Army didn’t seize firearms? And as I said, if the RCMP and Army seized your property, without a warrant, you’d be fine with that? The RCMP did admit to seizing legally stored firearms……should they face censure in your view?
  6. What does that have to do with Canadian PAL/RPAL holders? As I said: So you’re now suggesting PAL/RPAL holders, forced to leave their homes, will disregard the laws associated with safe storage & transport?
  7. It might appear silly to you, but the police did seize firearms, well entering homes under the auspices of searching for people in distress…….There is currently (and nearly finished) an investigation being conducted by the Commission for Public Complaints against the RCMP. Who is paying for them to “go get another one”? You would be ok with members of the Military and RCMP conducting a search, sans a warrant, within your own home, damaging property, and then seizing other property from your home, again, without a warrant? You’re clearly missing the point of contention of said residents.
  8. Reporting what? That Canadian PAL/RPAL holders disregard the laws associated with safe storage & transport once they leave their homes?
  9. So you’re now suggesting PAL/RPAL holders, forced to leave their homes, will disregard the laws associated with safe storage & transport?
  10. So you’re now suggesting that PAL/RPAL holders will misuse their firearms because they aren’t at home?
  11. You believe the lethality of a firearm changes due to it’s geographic location?
  12. I’d be very surprised if going forward people would indeed leave their guns (and other valuables) at home.
  13. I wonder how long the conflict and tension in the Middle East would last, devoid of outsider funding? Perhaps letting them go at each other, with what they got already, is the only logical way to see a final resolution…….Either someone will win, or they’ll eventually call it a day.
  14. I have no doubt that well the RCMP are looking for scared and confused residents hiding in the backs of closets, under beds and in underpants drawers, if the come across firearms, they will clearly scoop them up…….No argument here.
  15. Then explain the praise by the current operators………is that also a conspiracy? Exactly that.........All American led operations since 1991 have relied heavily upon stealth aircraft, coupled with cruise missiles, to neutralize key strategic and tactical targets. That’s predicated on the F-35 becoming a wasted opportunity……….Clearly the current and future operators don’t feel that. Sure it does…….inherent flaws are found and resolved with both a long service records and especially trial by fire……..For instance, in Canadian service, the intial deployment found our Leopard II’s lack of mine plough to be a great detraction and forced the further retention of the older Leopard I. I’m not saying the Leopard II is a bad tank, but it’s not all sunshine and gumdrops as you make it out to be, especially when compared to an Abrams……..The acceleration and gear ratio afforded to the Abrams is a great many better then what’s on the Leopard II and Challenger II……acceleration, both forward and reverse are both very important factors in armoured warfare. How many Abrams tanks were knocked out by a vintage RPG via a frontal armour hit? Huh? There were nearly three times as many Abrams tanks built then Leopard II……as to their “Export success”, the Germans and Dutch gave them away once the wall came down. A rifled barrel will certainly be longer ranged and more accurate, but of course will wear out far faster, well limiting the types of ammo (HEAT rounds), and in turn, the tanks versatility. Political interference is a common theme with all defence and Government procurement programs.
  16. Uh-oh........ I assume to facilitate not kicking down doors, that in-turn have to be replaced by the RCMP???? I wonder how many gun owning residents will be taking their firearms with them?
  17. What is the average police response time in your area? In Greater Vancouver, it’s over ten minutes……I'd assume that figure would only rise in smaller and more rural communities………So if you awoke to someone kicking your door in at 2am, you’d wait ~10 minutes for the police to respond? I can retrieve and load a legally stored firearm from within my bedroom in under a minute…….. I would assume reliance on an alarm (I do have a security system) would take even longer………..As to dogs, I’ve got a Rottweiler and a Boxer, they could be subdued by a baseball bat or bear spray…….As to a baseball bat, you’d wish to defend yourself and your family with one against someone armed with bear spray canister, taser or a gun? As to moving, I already live in a upper middle class suburb, with relatively low crime rates, none the less, home invasions, sexual assaults and other forms of violent crimes do occur against the public anywhere you go……I by no means lay awake at night in fear of boogiemen breaking into my home, nor do I own firearms for personal protection, but if in a last resort type scenario, I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to use one of my firearms to defend myself or my family. I don’t feel the use of a firearm to defend ones own life, or the life of a family member, is an unreasonable proposition. I think the difference is several key reasons. Namely higher crime rates, less access to mental health resources, coupled with ingrained privacy rights that in many instances prevent the FBI’s background check system from coming up with warning flags on gun purchases by certain individuals……..If these avenues were addressed, there would certainly be a further reduction in both gun homicides and gun suicides within the United States.
  18. In essence, that is what you’re saying here: The answer obviously depends on a host of variables.
  19. How long is a piece of string?
  20. Huh? Well no, that honor, per your link, is held by Mexico. Innocent people have been dying less for decades, despite an increase in guns. Why? Such a decision is of the purview of the membership of the NRA……. Why? Rifles, including AR-15s, are used in ~4% of homicides in the United States........Hammers, golf clubs and baseball bats kill more Americans.... Why don’t you profess your views on public safety to the Mexicans and other nations in Latin America? After all, they have far greater rates of gun homicides then the Americans.
  21. That makes no sense………Mexicans have more restrictive gun laws, yet over three times the rate of gun related homicides when compared to the United States………and of course, the rates of gun homicides within the United States have been decreasing steadily for decades, despite an actual increase in the numbers of firearms in circulation. The “balance” you speak of has been swinging in the “right” direction for decades, based on the decrease in gun homicides within the United States.
  22. The number of and type of gun plays little into the equation……..To address such issues, the root causes of both criminality and violent forms of mental illness need first to be examined and only then addressed.
  23. I agree with most of the NRA's positions (I've been a member since the early 90s), but do have issues with a few of their points from a Canadian perspective, but understand them in an American context to an extent.
  24. Certainly, guns don’t kill people after all.
