F-35 Purchase Cancelled; CF-18 replacement process begins
Derek 2.0 replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of note: I think if one dug into this thread, we could find cited experts stating the F-35B was stillborn and would be dropped..... Furthermore: -

And that is very common gripe, I've owned a .300 RUM and hunted one season in Alaska with it, but in actual fact, the larger calibers and loads will drop at greater ranges larger game, but won't make an animal any deader than a 30-06 in the lungs........ 300 RUM for deer is overkill. I've hunted rooibok, springbok and blesbok in South Africa and the most common calibers then (~20 years ago) were 270 and 30-06, much like Canadian deer and elk hunters use........because the game is in Africa doesn't equate to it being tougher then similar sized game in North America. With that, many of those unique calibers might perform slightly better then more common calibers on ballistic tables, but in actual practice, in my opinion, there isn't much difference between the animal dying once its impacted by the bullet versus once it hits the dirt after the impact........as I said, some countries/ game reserves could very well have such requirements as a guideline, or even law, but I doubt that the case for most, and one would find in Africa, like North America, .270/.308/30-06/.300 Win Mag would be the most common. -

I doubt Roman big game hunters had as much, but still managed. -

I don't know that .375 H&H would be the minimum caliber, more like the safest recommended minimum to allow the hunter to be at a greater distance, well still allowing for a greater velocity at impact.........The Inuit hunt Polar Bear with 243, and though .22lr isn't allowed for deer and up, .223 is, which is nearly the same bullet size, but far different velocity........a safe assumption to make though would be that most lions taken with a firearm have been .303 British for a century+ An arrow from a compound bow can go through most car doors.....at a closer range....still wouldn't be my choice for mule deer, let alone dangerous game. -
I don't mind their recent (1987+) stuff, the 90s stuff was over played on radio though. I agree with Sweet Emotion/Dream On, but was more partial to Mama Kin and Back in the Saddle and Last Child from Rocks (still have the LP, one of my first records).

Harper won't take part in media consortium debates
Derek 2.0 replied to poochy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hiding in the closet? The Prime Minister has already confirmed that he'll take part in 5 debates, four of which are confirmed..........and though Mulcair isn't after Trudeau's job, he's after Trudeau supporters, and Bloc supporters in Quebec.........I wonder if the media debates will be held still, turning into a Trudeau-May love fest, and both being played the fools by Duceppe in the French debate? -
Mulcair will be debate anywhere, anytime.....Unless the Prime Minister isn't there...

Again, guns aren't licensed, as I said above, I think you meant registered, of which, prior to the Liberal Firearms Act, handguns and automatics, including former automatics, were registered. I and other gun owners did/do hold the prior PC Tories to account.......after the passage of C-17, the cause of much of the outrage being the banning of standard capacity mags, we migrated to Manning's Reform Party.....and the result of the following election????? As we spoke in the prior NFA themed thread, Peter Mackay and the Red Tories weren't considered friends of gun owners either. Why does it mater how I reference the CPC? I'm an active member, and the party is its membership, as such, referencing an opinion shared by both myself and the party as one is a problem for you why? -

Guns aren't licensed, I assume you mean registered. As said already, both handguns and automatics had been registered for decades prior to the 1995 legislation. -

That and those that had numerous firearms confiscated prior to their own demise.....My issue, as stated numerous times, is the political dishonesty of people like you that refuse to acknowledge the intent of such laws.......Your own cited source indicated that ~50% of owned handguns were banned, representing upwards of ~70% of handguns then in production by barrel length........... What's with all the political cloak and dagger? Why don't the Liberals and NDP own it? Highlight in detail their hidden agenda........ As stated, if they don't, the CPC will for them........... -

I've cited several times the criteria of what is within the prohibited class, the laws governing the class and the required endorsement on ones license, as created by the 1995 Liberal Firearms Act........your unwillingness to contrast the 1995 law, versus prior laws, and the result confiscation of firearms..........as I asked of you, name but one firearm model that was confiscated prior to the 1995 law......just one Waldo, your refusal to do so is noted!!! -

In death, likewise the gun owner that purchased a now prohib, prior to 1995 that was not granted a grandfathered license. -

Sure, I know when I eat a Mulie or Swamp Donkey that I killed, it would have had a better life prior than factory-farmed stock, likewise a grouse in my freezer, didn't spend its short life in a cage so small it couldn't stand, so as to increase weight and prevent bruising of the meat. -

Guns aren't licensed, gun owners are, and weren't required a PAL/RPAL (with 12.x endorsement) prior to the 1995 legislation.........no, I'm well aware of the clause, likewise its intention. Gun owners that purchased firearms, post (your cited) 1977-78 legislation, likewise gun owners that purchased firearms that were made prohib despite not falling into the new definitions post 1995 (i.e. the firearms I provided as an example), yet were listed (in 1995) as prohib by name and model.....aka guilt by association. You're unhinged.......my usage of past, present and future tense, prior to your windmill. What legislative change, prior to 1995, required Canadian gun owners to cede lawfully obtained firearms to the Federal Government? And yet you're unable to refute that the Liberal Firearms Act was a legislated gun grab writ-large......Of course, it will be nothing, when contrasted with what the Federal NDP would attempt........ -

I didn't shift, the Liberal Firearms Act shifted firearms to banned.... Where did I say different? No, the 95 Act did create the the current prohibited class, likewise the grandfathered license, to ban the ownership of such guns. The present prohibited definitions were defined in the 1995 legislation, as already cited. That depends with which definition, for which firearm, defined by its model or action type. With the vast majority of the current prohibited list, 12.6 class of firearms, prior definitions had zero influence, as prior to the 1995 Firearms Act, the current 12.6 handguns were not prohibited. Likewise, the majority of the 12.4 and 12.5 firearms (firearms such as my prior examples) that were banned by name only, despite the new definitions for non-restricted and restricted that would counter such moves.......That leaves the 12.2 (Machine guns, and select fire types) and 12.3 (former select fire types converted to semi-auto only), long since legal to own, likewise registered for decades prior (like handguns) that any prior legislation would have any bearing on the 1995 Liberal ban. -

I disagree, I think Vegans can have an opinion based on their own morals, from a presumptive, highground......I disagree with it, but there you go. The ones I find hypocritical are those that eat factory-farmed pigs, beef, chicken and mutton, yet find hunting to be cruel, teetering on animal abuse. -

I trust you have proof? In your own Province, one with a tag can hunt 'coons at night.....First Nations bands can hunt at night across most of Canada, likewise hunting in Fall and early Winter in Canada's North......Night Vision rifle scopes are sold in Canada for a reason -

So the American's two guides tried to destroy the tracker, one didn't have a hunting permit/tags for the lion hunt, and even if Mr Palmer attempted to lure a lion for his hunt, how is Mr Palmer guilty of wrongdoing? I mean, to place bait or the use of lures when hunting isn't an attempt to lure a specific animal and not another (with a GPS tracker) None the less, social media is trying Mr Palmer, when its very its possible he didn't commit a crime, or didn't know that his two guides weren't operating within the law...........is it possible that Palmer didn't intend to break any laws, in what he thought to be a legal (though distasteful to some) hunt? Don't get me wrong, if he willing broke any laws, I hope the book is thrown at him, but I do liken these Social Media crusades to a witch hunt by those with a political agenda........I mean, where is the outrage garnering so much attention in the media, for a practice that has been ongoing for centuries? -

You going to name one model of firearm that was banned prior to the Liberal's Firearms Act? Likewise acknowledge, as stated in your own link, the Liberal's 1995 Firearm Act did ban guns, including half of all lawful firearms within the country. -

Most Canadian hunters use a form of bait.... be it salt licks, sents, lures, calls etc...Many Bear hunters in Canada will use store bought meat or even other smaller game carcass, including beaver.......as to the use of a truck? So what? Canadian hunters are legally allowed to hunt game with quads, trucks, dirt bikes, boats and even helicopters...one can't shoot an animal from a motorized form a transport (Horses, canoes etc are ok), but the use of a truck shouldn't be a cause for concern to follow a dying animal. -

Did he lure the Lion or did the guides? Likewise, do you have a source that they attempted to destroy the tracker after the fact, or that there was a bribe involved?
