Happy 70th Anniversary of Hiroshima Massacre
Derek 2.0 replied to Big Guy's topic in The Rest of the World
Right you are, nearly 20000 American and Filipino POWs died from the abuses handed out by the Japanese during the Bataan death march.....likewise, the Japanese slaughter of Chinese civilians in Nanking, in which more people died than both the Atomic strikes on Japan....... -

With the advent of smart munitions and modern targeting computers/sights, the prior requirement to use tactical nukes for many targets have been greatly reduced........In Libya/Iraq/Syria, if circa early to mid 70s, most static enforced targets in those conflicts would either have not been attacked, subjected to weeks & months of area bombing or nuked............... -
I thought most pollsters called just as you were about to sit down to dinner........ How is providing reported average income of party supporters, to support my point that Tory supporters are more likely able to afford to go away on vacation stupid? Earlier, you retorted with the average level of education among party supporters to counter said point........was that a demonstration of you stroking your tiny partisan ego? I would like to see a poll demonstrating how many NDP supporters have Arts degrees, and of them, are employed in their field of study........

Maybe, I would think after a night drinking Pabst Blue and listening to the latest hip indie band, Sunday would be but a day of rest...... As I said, I'll await the next several polls before fearing the workers revolt.......
-
Weighted how? I put little faith in a poll conducted in mere hours on a Sunday long-weekend. Sure, but who else, with a French Literature or Women's studies degree, is to staff our organic coffee houses and locally sourced grocery stores? The NDP's policies themselves are aimed namely at the working poor and underprivileged.......If NDP supporters are comparably well-off, why don't they donate more money to their own party?

10 am EST to 4pm EST is 7am PST to 1 pm PST a time-frame in which ~15% of Canadians, of which are mostly social conservatives, do attend church...I never suggested services span the entire period, but 15% of the population would skew the numbers.....likewise, I question how often polling firms actually poll on Sundays? As to long weekends, I would assume by pure economics (including party donation footprint), "conservatives" and "liberals" are disproportionately more able to afford to go away for long weekends versus the atypical NDP low income supporters.......

Indeed, the Swedes also heavily believe in domestic stimulus in the form of maintaining their own Ikea-like military-industrial complex..... the Swedes, per capita, are one of the largest arms exporters in the World. -
No, the Liberals historically have been the party of Bay-Street, with the Tories the party of small-town Main street..........The NDP aren't centrist, but have been forced to move to the center (starting under Layton) to appeal to more Canadians than the statist fringe, hence why Mulcair will very much so attempt to keep the muzzles on the loons in his party, just as Harper does with the social conservative fringe in his/ours.......
-
I would think your results would very much so represent the majority of Canadians, the same Canadians that decide elections......

As they say, when one points a finger at another, there are three more fingers pointing back at oneself.............I don't deny that I'm a Tory supporter/member, as evident by not only my own statements, but these quiz results. It is quite simple, there is no other electable party that shares my political (and moral) beliefs, as such, I'm a partisan Tory......... With that said, if we placed ourselves 60 years ago, in 1955, and retook this test, without a doubt, the percentage difference between the then Progressive Conservatives and Liberals wouldn't be that great, perhaps even tilting towards the then St Laurent LPC........

PET? I wouldn't say that at all, he (like Harper) was a Canadian Machiavelli of his time, he nearly alone turned the Liberal Party of Canada on its head, in effect, changing the once neo-liberal party into the NDP light, with it now no longer able to afford the poles to keep its once massive tent erect.......I don't think PET's stamp he put on the country had anything to do with luck, but design. -

Not the least, I don't deny that Trudeau had a feigned charisma, but personality wise, I've never once heard him described as an extrovert. In numerous books on his life, there are countless retelling of his inclusive, introverted personality..........IIRC, one of Maggie or Justin has described him as such..... His at times foolish behavior, is ever much so a sign of an eccentric introvert....... -
So you feel our Head of State is now also the Head of the Government...............Charles and Cromwell fought an uncivil war over such a case. Do you have a link to support why it is you believe this?
-
Indeed, though I fully admit my political bias, I still laugh when some call me a hyperpartisan, neocon, fascist........ I've always considered myself a classic liberal, of a Adam Smith-John Stuart Mill-Winston Churchill-Barry Goldwater variety........in other words, I don't really give two shits what others do, as long as I don't get the bill for it

Interesting quiz: Conservatives: 67% Libertarian: 56% Liberal: 30% Christian Heritage: 23% NDP: 15% Commies: 12% Greens: 9% Bloc: 23%

Who do you think is in charge? I won't badger you for link, I just want hear who, in your opinion, is currently in charge.

Explain the longevity of PET.......the man was more of a prick introvert than Harper.......come to think of it, I can't think of one Canadian Prime Minster that one would peg as personable....Canadians elect Nixons, not Reagans. -
The previous Forum poll, released on July 31st, was conducted over four days.........this poll was conducted over 6 hours on a Sunday morning, of a long weekend, during the hours many small-c conservatives are at their places of worship......seems legit. Forgive me if I don't scurry for the rooftops yet.........

Harper won't take part in media consortium debates
Derek 2.0 replied to poochy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm not complaining about Mulcair's recent missteps, I think they're great, likewise a demonstration as to how poorly prepared the NDP is for this campaign......within less than a handful of days, the NDP has given the Tories the choice of debates and today, Mulcair's refusal to answer reporter's questions after his presser this morning, is a defining moment in this campaign. Such missteps are reactionary, giving their advisories the initiative, akin to a hockey team nursing a 1 goal lead in the second period......... The Federal NDP team has now started to defeat themselves, and this will be further compounded by the coming storm of attacks from not only the Tories, but the Liberals, Bloc and Greens........Mulcair and the NDP will be forced onto the defensive, even more so once not only the parties, but the media, start pulling apart their party policies.......there is orange blood in the water. Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat -Sun Tzu- -

Some might, but for the most part, I don't think it would mater, when he wins his second majority this Fall, I doubt very much the Prime Minister (despite suggestions by pundits) will step down.......he'll only be 60 years young for the 2019 election, is in good health (lost a ton of weight over the last couple of months through diet and exercise) and still sees important work ahead. With that, the only way Prime Minister Harper would step-down, would be if they lost or were reduced to an unstable minority, at which time, the CPC would very much so find a new leader. Likewise, the Prime Minister, if he developed a sudden serious health issue would step down, which as a country we would be better for.....as much as I loved Reagan, his health was in serious decline in the last years of his administration, so much so, in some ways, Bush was defacto President starting in ~1986-87...... With that though, its all moot, as Harper is a robot, more machine now than man, twisted and evil -

Maybe so, but I haven't seen any evidence to suggest that rich North American hunters are a major contributing factor in the eventual extinction of the African Lion........I would think habit loss caused by the estimated doubling of the human population of sub-Saharan Africa by 2050, resulting in the the Lion's natural habitat being converted to farm land, likewise the killing of lions that attack livestock by locals, accounts for far more lion deaths than rich Big-White-Hunters........... -------- One of the oldest and most successful animal conservation groups in North America is Ducks Unlimited, which since the 1930s has conserved over 10 million acres of wetlands, watersheds and forests across North America.......The majority of DU members, and in turn donors, are Duck Hunters........sometimes those with actual vested interests are the most effective avenues for change, as opposed to those that don't understand the issue, but go out of their way to "like" or "tweet" said issue, that seems popular for 15 minutes.. -
The latest Nanos poll has the Tories up and the now leading the NDP, who have dropped one point, and the Liberal's are up several points........

I could see it....... -
We do, as in the latest EKOS, Forum and Nanos polls, Tory numbers have all improved over their previous polling numbers form a week+ ago by the same polling firms......with last weeks Forum poll showing a 4-5 point jump, somewhat confirming the thought to be outlier from the Mainstreet firm...... 11 weeks out and the Tories are improving, the NDP has peaked and the Liberal are in decline........Tory supporters can live with that
