  1. My, you are so dramatic! The US govt is the biggest terrorist organization in the world? Really?? Perhaps you forget that the U.S. govt has our back! I wouldn't be calling them terrorists if I were you.
  2. Sounds like a hate on for women. I think the objective is for men to become fathers to their children, both financially and emotionally.
  3. Because he is the biological father.
  4. When you give a child up for adoption, you relinquish all rights to that child. If you have no rights, then no support is required. Not sure where you are going with this statement.
  5. I did not hear that program but I did read the article associated with it on the CBC website. It is an interesting debate. Should the media cover the killer's name, history etc in great detail and at great length? I don't think so, however initially it should be reported and then it is only appropriate to focus on the victims and how to prevent such incidents from happening again. An interesting comment I read in the article was that if there wasn't as much media coverage focused on the killer, the target the killer chooses could be downsized. (ie instead of selecting a kindergarten class, maybe just the immediate family).
  6. Women who qualify for platoon exercises must pass pre-deployment training so they may be deployed in whatever capacity is asked of them, including combat missions in Kandahar, Afghanistan. I have not seen any proof from Argus that women on the battlefield do not perform the necessary duties required of them, nor has Argus provided stats that men working alongside these women 'who are inferior' are at a greater risk of being killed or harmed in anyway. Many other opportunities exist in the National Defence for women as well. Women qualify just as much as men for the air force and navy. Female pilots don't run marathons against men to see if they qualify. The training and qualifications required for women are the same as for men.
  7. Exactly, both parties have accepted the risk.
  8. Seriously? Even if he has contributed his semen? He can't take back that semen no matter how hard he tries. Not sure what you mean by this statement. As soon as that baby is born, he is a biological father, whether he wants to be or not.
  9. If there were ever a good reason to adopt more gun control in the U.S.. 'Joe the Plumber' is a good example. His latest quote on his blog: "Guns are mostly for hunting down politicians who would actively seek to take your freedoms and liberty away from you," Google 'Hitler, Mao, Kim Jung Il, Castro, Stalin' just for starters." What's disturbing about this reckless quote is that it could encourage a mentally unstable individual to feel justified in shooting an elected official who is willing to stand up to the NRA. We only need to look at Gifford to see what happened there.
  10. I do see a small problem with this one. What if the woman decides not to abort because of her religious beliefs. Should the father still not pay if he wanted her to get an abortion?
  11. I suspect the union's tactic of not willing to negotiate over the summer has more to do with pressuring the govt to negotiate in June and resolve the issues.
  12. My point of course is that you don't seem to have a worldly view of what is happening around you. Do you understand that citizens of Canada work with muslims, east indians, folks from syria, europe, etc every day. We bond with these people and we find no fault with these people. But you seem to taint these people with your broad brush paint stroke prejudices and that is offending to me and my colleagues.
  13. Argus I am very curious in what sort of community you live in. Who are your neighbours?, Who lives near you? who do you associate with? Do you engage with other cultural societies?
  14. I have been targeted in chat with quite derogatory comments. Should the standards held in the message boards be applied in chat as well?
  15. I agree that we need a new business model for the CBC. Instead of criticizing what we now have, let's come up with innovative, creative ideas to make us proud of the CBC. I posted something in another thread a while ago about suggestions for improving the CBC but sadly, no one offered any suggestions. We are so very quick to criticize, but we lack the ingenuity and creativity to offer up suggestions for improvements.
  16. What is curious to everyone, is where those pings came from if not from the plane?
  17. So apparently, those pings were bogus and they are now concentrating on another portion of the arc. Those poor families. Do you think we will ever find the plane?
  18. It is no wonder that western societies are targeted because of these beliefs quoted above.
  19. Do you really have anything to back this up Tim? I have not seen anything to indicate that the public has indicated over and over again that they do not want to pay for the teachers demands.
  20. Simply because women get impregnated, men don't. Women should be in control of their bodies and whatever happens to it. I agree, there is no easy answer if a woman decides to keep the child and the man would have preferred an abortion and ends up paying support for 21 years or more. Those are the chances you take when you fool around.
  21. Well, you certainly weren't of any help to me. As Shady suggests, it's all about the almighty dollar. Religion has absolutely nothing to do with aquariums keeping wildlife in captivity. And they will fight any organization that seeks to diminish their profit margin.
  22. I don't think it's thread drift at all. The issue JT is addressing is abortion.
  23. Have we had a massacre of kindergarten children in Canada? Why you would suggest otherwise is ludicrous.
  24. There is no such thing as a 'good quality birth control that won't fail' unless it is absenteeism which is quite simply, not achievable for healthy adults seeking intimate relationships. Unplanned pregnancies happen all the time, even with the best intentions of both parties practicing safe sex, birth control etc. Women take on the full responsibility of pregnancy, birth, nursing etc. Until men bear that responsibility, women should be the ultimate decision maker whether to go forward or ultimately end the pregnancy.
  25. It is getting ugly, no doubt about it. The Education Minister Peter Fassbender offered the 'carrot' of a reduced contract term — six years instead of the 10 years government had been demanding. He also offered teachers a pro-rated $1,200 signing bonus if an agreement were to be reached before the end of the school year. It has been a very long time since negotiations have been reduced to this level.
