Missing Aboriginal Women Enquiry?
WestCoastRunner replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Who is that commented directed to? -
This is a very complex situation. After reading the articles, I am now on the fence with the decision of the family. The health care providers have said that by discontinuing chemo she could possibly relapse and die. They have not said with any certainly that she will die. However, receiving traditional treatments has allowed her to stay with her family and she has not had the terrible side effects of chemo. If anyone has had a relative going through chemo, then you know what they mean. I have struggled with this case. I have witnessed first hand the assault on someone's body on chemo, especially to an 11 year old. Let's just pray that the treatment she is now receiving will save her life. Personally, if it were my child, I would go with the chemo but unless we have walked in another person's footprint, we cannot begin to understand the situation.

Florida woman granted asylum in Canada

What is it with these 'reports'? Should OGFT now quiver in his boots until he gets reprimanded and warned or suspended? Come on, you 'old forum members'. How about embracing new blood! -
Missing Aboriginal Women Enquiry?
WestCoastRunner replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If we break it down by province, B.C. had 36 unsolved aboriginal female homicides and 40 missing aboriginal women — more than any province in either category — followed by Alberta with 28 unsolved homicides and 19 missing women, and Manitoba with 20 unsolved homicides and 12 missing women. I would dare say that in BC, it was a policing issue, especially when it came to investigating Robert PIcton's victims, who for the most part, were aboriginal and who the police tended to ignore. One, because they were prostitutes and two, because they were aboriginal. -
You are happy because he has to conform to your standards and not necessarily the Mapleleafweb forum. Grey areas exist when it comes to starting threads and what to provide, at least in my opinion (although I am not an old hand here). I would like to see more personal opinions from Big Guy when it comes to his threads and what he personally feels about it. I don't particularly like someone throwing out a topic and not providing their own personal thoughts. It sort of feels like a lecturer throwing out topics to discuss and we are the students. I don't have a problem with no links being provided since his topics are usually of the mainstream media topics, so for those who want links, get over it! There is an awful lot of whining going on from the 'old hands' and I tend to stay away for days at a time because I get tired of it. I like to contribute to threads and provide my input but if I and others are subjected to sniping and other putdowns, it's really not worth our while to participate.

Pro Life? Then Don't Run Under Liberal Banner

I can't speak for where JT is coming from but I don't believe his directive is coming from arrogance or a dictatorial manner at all. As he says: "I had an extraordinary example in a father who had deeply, deeply held personal views that were informed by the fact that he went to church every Sunday, read the Bible regularly to us, and raised us very religiously, as Catholics," Trudeau wrote. "But at the same time my father had no problem legalizing divorce, decriminalizing homosexuality and moving in ways that recognized the basic rights of the people.' And again, he reiterates that his party is committed to the values laid out in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. -
My argument with you on this matter had to do with your remarks about 'hardships' to others that you perceived were minimal. I agree that there is no turning back. I think I admitted that. But, please, let's have empathy for those poor souls who have to relocate with (no hardship).
-
You are actually 'twisting' my posts to suit your reasoning and it's not jiving, at least not with me.
-
Do you seriously think these people will be waiting 400 years before they have to relocate? Think again and try and have more empathy for your fellow human beings.
-
You are missing my point. You said "It is also easy to imagine that humans will adapt easily without any major hardship to whatever changes may come." How can you possibly think that hundreds of thousands of people having to relocate will not suffer major hardship?
-
You said there would be no hardships and you were minimizing the real hardships of hundreds of thousands of people having to relocate. I take issue with that. I understand there is no turning back and these islands will become uninhabitable, but please do not diminish their hardships.
-
I am responding to your comment above. Why you continue to insinuate that no major hardship will befall anyone is ludicrous.
-
I can't imagine these islands that will vanish due to sea levels rising will adapt easily without any major hardship. Kiribati (halfway between Hawaii and Australia) population, just over 100k Maldives - population 325k Seychelles - population just under 100k Solomon Islands - population close to 600k Micronesia - population close 100k How much responsibility should the U.S., Canada, China, UK etc take in absorbing the cost to relocate these people as they certainly won't have the funds? (there are many other islands that I have not included in this list)
-
Than perhaps we should have a consortium of countries to pool together resources to relocate these people.
