WestCoastRunner replied to Rue's topic in The Rest of the World
I'm not agree with the anti-semetic demonstrations. What Israel is doing is promoting hatred towards themselves. -

Um, I agree. Not sure why you are quoting my post in your response. -

This conflict is also working against Israel with the rise of more anti-semitic demonstrations and attacks on synagogues around the world, especially in Europe. Pro-Gaza protests worldwide tainted by anti-Semitism -

Talk about a broad generalized statement. A decaying society? Parents think having children involves no sacrifice? Parents are foolish enough to go ahead and raise a family knowing it will have a great impact on their finances, their freedom, increased responsibility, but think no sacrifice is involved? Just how many parents do you know? -

That doesn't make this conflict right and if you look more closely, you can see that some jewish leaders and organizations are not agreeing with Israel. Some also do not speak out for fear of being ostracized by the jewish community. Here are some members of the jewish community who are against these attacks. Henry Siegman, the former head of the American Jewish Congress and the Synagogue Council of America, discusses the assault on Gaza in an interview. Here is an excerpt. Commenting on Israeli justifications for killing Palestinians in the name of self-defense from 1948 through today, Siegman responds: "If you don’t want to kill Palestinians, if that’s what pains you so much, you don’t have to kill them. You can give them their rights, and you can end the occupation. And to put the blame for the occupation and for the killing of innocents that we are seeing in Gaza now on the Palestinians — why? Because they want a state of their own? They want what Jews wanted and achieved? This is a great moral insult." Dov Waxman, a professor of political science and Israel studies at Northeastern University and the author of “The Pursuit of Peace and the Crisis of Israeli Identity: Defending/Defining the Nation, wrote a column for the 'The Jewish Daily Forward' entitled 'Where is Our Compasson'. Here is an excerpt: "To sympathize with Palestinian suffering is not to condemn Israel or condone Hamas; it is simply an expression of our humanity, as well as of our Jewish values. The ardent desire to demonstrate solidarity with Israel should not come at the expense of our humanitarian consciences. This not only erodes our moral character as individuals and as a community, but also risks alienating many Jews who rightly agonize over the humanitarian costs of Israeli military actions. As human beings and Jews, we should never let our support for Israel harden our hearts to the suffering of others" Jews Against Genocide hold memorials for the killed Palestinian children. -

And perhaps they have empathy for what's happening outside their country. I certainly encourage my adult children to look outside our country and observe what's happening outside our country. -

Perhaps because they take an interest in what's happening outside of where they live. Just like we do in Canada. -

I am disappointed by Obama, but I think Hillary can put the screws to this conflict. -

If a woman is working for a good company and they recognize her contributions and her skill set, she has no worries. And quite frankly, for the most part, this is what I have come across in the industry I work in. -

I was disagreeing with someone's post about how women taking maternity leave would somehow be dropped on the ladder towards mobility in a company or how it would impact their progression (which it shouldn't). -
Especially considering they have no power.

I have learned in these last few posts, that sometimes women and men get promoted based on their education and not their experience. It is a problem for both genders and not isolated to just women. -

Now, one female is decent - as decent as many of the guy's, however she's getting paid more than guys that have 2-3x's the experience (and are better at their job) and who should actually be leading their crews, but she's getting groomed and my boss brags to all our clients how we are truing a female crew leader. Do these fellas have university experience? -

It is daunting for a woman to enter into a profession dominated by men and I speak from experience. But it can be done, as long as we hold our own! -

That happens all the time in an environment where men are being trained by women. For example, in the banking industry, a woman trains a young man straight out of university on the banking practices in a branch. She teaches him thoroughly on all the best practices etc. But guess what, he gets the management position while she knows more than him! Sure, there are plenty of women in the branch who have worked there for years (without a university education) but they silently stand by and watch this young whipper snapper move on up because he has a university degree. Can you explain the difference to me? -

Well, there is that too. And it's hard for a woman to enter into a profession like that. Can you imagine a woman entering into the oil industry or other type of industry when she truly has an interest in it and being subjected to jealousy from colleagues because she is a woman and she is advancing, even though she may be smarter than them! -

I have worked in both environments. A professional woman working in a government job has just as many job expectations as a male counterpart. She can leave at 5:01 but of course she won't be open to as many advancements or raises, but that is up to her. Like you say, she has family responsibilities. But if she chooses to stay after 5, then she is equal in reimbursement and career advancements as her male counterparts regardless of how many maternity leaves she went on.
